Ones To Watch

newb 4.10 sees the reappearence of GOLD WAND who was btn a neck by DOMINO DARLING at donny last oct, 5L back to the 3rd (won in france) also the the 5th has won since so it looked a decent maiden. DD is due to run on saturday (listed race) so again this suggests connections think highly of both, varians stable tour talked about reversing the form in a group1 for GW.
odds on today so maybe not a betting proposition but surely a horse of interest being out of GOLDEN HORN and definitely one to watch.

Thanks Tacker.
Sometimes it seems you just “know” you are on a good one. I was doing my ratings today for the 12:35 at Goodwood and had FROMNOWON 8lbs clear on my time and ability Ratings. My policy theses days however is always to look at the closing stages of most of the runners on the RP results page. To me it looked like it needed 7f the way it stayed on. There was little form to go on but I went through the other runners and when I watched BIMBLE accelerate having been blocked and then given an easy, it looked to me like a fair horse that would be underexposed. Anyway I thought 8/1 On Betfair at that time was a good price so backed it with an Exacta withFROMNOWON. It is great when it works out like that and we should enjoy those moments as there are not very many of them.I was also pleased that MERAAS won too as I had that well clear and I know a few of you did too. It was a bit short for me in a handicap but as I couldn’t see any threats to it based on my ratings I had a little touch. Back to the garden and ice cream. If only it was that easy every day !
Just looking at Ascot tomorrow and it looks pretty tough as usual.

On a follow up I will post my rating for BIMBLE in the next day or two but based on this performance will certainly be going up in class and could be Listed level.

Hi T tacker
Yes I think you are probably right about FROMNOWON as in his previous races he quickened up well then sort of stayed on at one pace. Either the headgear or a step up in trip, or both.
BIMBLE : Henry Candy knows the time of day with sprinters and I can’t wait to see where she goes next. I have had a quick look at Ascot tomorrow but nothing for me at the mo. I spent most of the morning going back to June 1st and updating my Ratings, as I have made a slight change to my calculations which I think has improved them a little. It’s a very minor adjustment but they all needed to be altered and as they are in the My Ratings of the RP and not on a spreadsheet I had to do each one separately!

Although I rarely bet in handicaps, there might be a bet in The Silver Royal Hunt Cup on Wednesday. I think MAYDANNY is just the right type for a tough handicap like this. A lightly raced improving 4yold. I have it on my time and ability ratings at (89+) and it’s OR is (90). It only ran twice as a 3 year old so has had its problems but after a year off scooted in, in a lowly handicap at Yarmouth, which would have been its prep race for this one probably. It’s trained by Mark Johnson so will now be super fit. Beautifully bred and cost a few quid. Currently 9/1 which is a bit skinny for a race such as this but I don’t think it will get too much bigger on the day.

One to note is Charlie Appleby's 3 year old sprinter LAZULI. Won a nice listed race by 3.5 lengths at Sandown on Saturday. The OR was 102 so will be interesting to see what he races off next. I have him now on my time and ability ratings at (109) . I would think this horse is capable of winning a Grp 3 at least as he doesn't have to find too much on the ratings and will improve quite a bit I would think as the season progresses, particularly coming from that stable. His previous run was good at Newmarket where he ran to an OR of (100) as you can see I had him on (99) for that.

In the Listed race at Doncaster old El Astronaute won it well off (106) MR/OR (110). The best rating I have for this horse is (110) . He did reach OR (111) late last Autumn but at his age I can't see him progressing too much. He is though a reliable old sprinter. The disappointment of the race was Dakota Gold. He ran nowhere near his rating of (110) MR/ OR and ran to (90) MR. His final run last year on my figures was (115) so don't right him off yet.

At Goodwood LYZBETH won the 6f Listed race in taking fashion and should continue to improve although last season she won first time out and then didn't really live up to expectations being entered in a Grp and Listed race so we will see.
You can see she ran off OR (94) and I have rated her (100) for that run.

MAYDANNY into 13/2 now so i hope you took the 9/1, looks the type to keep on improving but i was impressed with SIR BUSKER the other day only has to give him 6lb with murphy booked which should help. Good luck B Bertie123

Hi Tacker
Yes I got the 9/1:dance2:. (SIR BUSKER). I always like top weights in handicaps as, after all, they are the fastest horse. Its just whether the weight slows them down but this is such a tight handicap I don't think its going to make that much difference and SIR BUSKER did win well previously. I have leaned towards MAYDANNY as I think he could well turn out to be better than a handicapper. Anyway good luck to you and perhaps a small exacta might be in order. Other than that its tough again today. I have dug out another one in the 2:25 HUKUM which is also another underexposed sort that won very well last year. (Also Hamdan and Crowley. Hope the combination continues to work out well as 3 winners yesterday) Owen Burrows is a very good trainer and had a nice winner yesterday at Thirsk FTO so I am not bothered HUKUM has not had a run. It was 13.00 on Betfair just now. I haven't done the figures on this as I only rate up to 8f as I feel it is very difficult to have any consistency with time/speed figures at longer trips as tactics plays such a big part in the race they can just turn into a 2 furlong sprint. Well mustn't spend too much time chatting as this is about speed ratings and not selections I guess.
Have fun.

This may be of interest. On June 6th at Lingfield, PLANTADREAM won a Class 4 Handicap by 7 lengths. It ran off OR (81). My rating for the race for PLANTADREAM winning was (95) and at first I thought I had miscalculated, but the second horse DIVINE MESSENGER OR (84) I had running to (82) and the third horse DATA PROTECTION OR (82) I had as (79).
However, I have checked the new official rating for PLANTAREAM which is ....(95). What a shame it couldn't have got in on its old rating of (82) with a 6lb penalty! I can't see it running above its new mark of (95) but who knows?

Friday 19th. 6f Commonwealth Cup (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo)

Here are my top 3. As they are in my RP My Ratings section they add the weights up to 10 stone when you see the race card. So if you deduct 14lbs from these figures you can compare them against the Official Rating given to 9 stone.

My Ratings RP Weight Adjusted to 10 stone
Golden Horde. 128. (9 stone ) MR (114) OR (114)
Pierre Lapin 124 MR (110) OR (110)
Wooded 121 MR (107) OR (110). If it comes up soft this will go very well.

Great call Tacker

No excuses but I think the far side had the worst of the draw but not sure if would have made much difference.

HUKUM gets the job done B Bertie123 , well done.

Just looking at that race I have MONTATHAM 3lbs clear Top I have also had a bit of info for QUAYSAR, It is tricky with the ratings as a lot of them have AW ratings and some have turf. It’s a tough one 🤓
