Compiling Speed figures.

Also a similar situation in the first race at Lingfield with HE'S A LATCHICO running 75 last time out but I have SEA OF CHARM top running 81 & 76 over 10f.

The same again in the 2:56 with COOL SPIRIT running to 73 last time out but CHAMPAGNE SUPANOVA top for run 3 starts ago where he ran to 76.

Would you only look to back your top rated in the race, so Mashaan, He's A Latchico and Cool Spirit wouldn't be bets? Or for instance, would you only take a horses figure into account over the distance it runs today so Soyounique and Sea Of Charm could be discarded as the runs they top my figures for were over different distances?

Thanks again.

Tom

Hi there - new to the forum, really enjoying reading your posts! Had a question about going deterioration - do you account for this in your ratings i.e. taking Cheltenham on the Wednesday where it rained continuously and the ground getting more churned up? Or taking hypothetical example, let's say it's heavy ground at Chester, all races at 1m4f (so going round numerous bends); I'd say a better chance of recording a better time in the 1st race compared to the 7th all else being equal? (Choice between racing on ground that's churned up or taking a wider course.) Equally, I'd imagine not a huge difference if racing on say good to firm or polytrack, let's say? Interested in your thoughts - cheers

Yes I do, in the allow column is the going adjustment in lbs per furlong and the time-based column is my assessment on the day i.e +0.32s/f (good).

Thanks for getting back - the question is then should that +0.32s/f be constant through all races on the card? In most cases I imagine it does the job but continuous rain certainly not making the ground any better - think it's reasonable to surmise that Facile Vega's Rating there could be even higher under the circumstances of that particular day?

I look at the trends on the day and adjust the going allowances to suit, on Thursday I had 2 going allowances as I found the chase course on the new course to be faster than the hurdles course.

The reason why Constitution Hill set a new track record and became the highest-rated novice hurdler put up 22lbs by the handicapper to 170 the going was on the fast side of good, yes his performance was impressive, but a mark of 170 is overkill, when I handicap a horse any rail movements plus the going allowance are factored in, I had him running to a mark of 164.

Good luck to everyone with the flat season starting today! I'm not quite up to speed with my own ratings to be backing anything yet but not far off.

TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother Do you have any standard times for Meydan or do you just leave them completely?

Thanks guys!

I don't bother with Meydan anymore, here are my old standard times.
