Mike , do you know what happened at Musselburgh 7f 33yds 2023 vs 7f 15yds in 2024? Did they move the distance?
T tony spencer
Tony, during the 2023 Flat season the ground-staff at Musselburgh found that it would be beneficial to slightly move the start forward to get closer to a truer 7fur distance and it would allow the track to be more efficient in producing fresh ground. Basically they found out during that season that most of the time they were moving the rail back "in" so decreasing the distance anyway so they implemented a slight movement forward with the starting position and they also realigned the bottom bend in the winter of 2023 as well. This has had the effect of reducing the overall distance at least "closer" to a truer 7f and provides much more options in producing fresh ground.

You can see the overall effect of all ~ 7f races at the course since 2021 in the table in the link below - they basically work within a +/- 10 yard tolerance at this distance so rail moves have ranged from -10yds to + 10yds. And you can see how the change happened in 2023. Since then the majority have been "inwards" (negative/minus rail move) decreasing the overall distance. Also notice that occurrences of a rail move within a race has also increased.
Am told they are limited with any more plans to bring the 7f start forward again due to slightly uneven ground.

Well done winners

T tony spencer Cashelman Cashelman Chesham Chesham andcof course Michael231 Michael231 who is on a great run. Also T tacker who highlighted Mini Mac’s chances but also the poor price ,the market was strange with the fav price leaving plenty of value ? In the place etc markets .

There isn't much in this and Massimo Blue is the only horse in the race that run to his best Timeform rating last time. That made him 3-5 for Dylan Cunha and he runs here under a penalty in this 0-70. He will be out of this grade next time.
Dylan Cunha is 8-44 at Newcastle when his horse goes off in the first 4 of the bvetting and that improves to 6-28 when just having one runner at Gosforth Park. In the last 12 months he has sent one runner 8 times and three have won.

Newcastle (Standard) Mkt odds from 10.50am.
1. Massimo Blue 10 6/5 MY Tissue (5/2 mkt)
10. Tiriac 5 7/2 (9/2)
4. Great 4 9/1 (11/2)
Comment: I rate those with recent track form places leaving no's 1, 10, 4 to consider, so for me it's Massimo Blue with dangers Tiriac then Great.
At The Races verdict in comparison.
MASSIMO BLUE arrives here at the top of his game after an easy three-length win at Southwell last week. Upped 7lb by the handicapper, his penalty leaves him 2lb well in and he looks the likeliest winner for the in-form Dylan Cunha yard. Bellagio Man has won five times over C&D and he could have a say, alongside Roaring Ralph and Great.
Top Tip: Massimo Blue (1)
Watch out for: Bellagio Man (12)
Expert View Verdict
MASSIMO BLUE returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion when scoring by three and a quarter lengths at Southwell last time off a 5lb lower mark. He is thriving at present and should go well again despite another rise in the weights. Great won by three-quarters of a length at Pontefract in August and was better than the bare result when fifth, beaten a length and a half last time. He remains on the same mark and has a chance if building on those recent efforts. Roaring Ralph returned to form when beaten just a length here last time off the same mark. He remains very competitively handicapped and has a chance of getting involved again if building on that latest effort.

Just for fun I made a small tool for my app to check your tips. Well, it is really time consuming to add your tips, MySportsAI MySportsAI you either misspelled the horse names or they have already been removed from the races; I think there were two horses I could not find.

It's probably possible to scrape them each day if we agreed on a standardised format but it's far from straightforward (needs headless) and would need site owner permission

Hi markfinn markfinn, well thank you for asking about my health, it's most kind. I'm not bad except for the aches and pains due to my age. The NHS 'bless em' said we should transfer you to a care home but we are not telling you what to do! My reply was I know you're not because I won't do it as I am the main carer at home for my wife. Having been married for 69 years now I might as well see it through to the end. Anyway, who wnts to pat balloons in the common room?

Top on recent figs is Roaring Ralph from a race that 3 others contested. Be no surprise to see some reversals of placings.

Got to go back a few runs to get TIRIAC's figs but they are more than competitive here. His next 2 higher OR runs have been successes on the surface. Over the last year on the AW he also has 3 of the top 10 average stride lengths and 3 of the top 4 top speeds being the only one here to break 43. The 6f shouldn't be a problem but he may need to reverse his last 2 tardy starts.
