I did it my way

these are the rules on my my sheet of BACK IN THE RING to find speed horse
RENARD D´IRLANDE carrying 10-13 so fifteen to add to its 129 gives figure of 144,as i have said vdw or spin offs of it are all down to ones own interpretation

STAGE TWO

Return to the race card note down the horses last top speed (T.S)figure

NOW PERFORM THE FOLLOWING CALCULATION.

FOR THE FLAT TAKE AWAY TODAYS WEIGHT FROM 10.00 STONE
FOR THE JUMPS TAKE AWAY TODAYS WEIGHT FROM 12.00 STONE

E.G 9.5- 10.00 = 9 ADD TO THE LAST TOPSPEED WHICH WE NOTED DOWN

IN OUR CASE 94 = 94+9 = TOP SPEED NOW 103 DO THIS FOR ALL THE RUNNERS IN THE RACE THE HIGHEST FIGURE IS THE SPEED HORSE SELECTION.

Ah gotcha taff. Just I have got Pete The Feat's last three class ratings as 113,129,138 so improving each run.

Isn't the 129 by Renard Dirlande already weight adjusted? He had a TS figure of 114 last time plus 15lbs = 129.

its last 2 ts figs were 134-87 but the 134 was its best in last year which i go by not ideal to omit when has a hell of chance in my eyes but hey a system is a system,we will never all agree on VDW type systems as we havent for years

correct just the way i do it and allways didnt realise when i first started that they were adjusted so just kept on with same, dosent make a difference as such

now i,ve went through your race and added weight top down adding to the topspeed rating but i make moleskin 152 and the speed horse your way i think?
this is the only horse in the grid out with this way of rating....have no problem with this to see how it goes

moleskins carrying 10-8 so add 20 to its ts rating of either the 89 unadjudted or 109 adjusted gives u a max of 129 not 152

scratching my head a wee bit but the way i,ve said gives you the best topspeed horse with the best placed in the handicap [best least]
it was just strange that all horses fitted the way i,ve said but not moleskin a low weighted good topspeed horse

was told that old vdw,ers when they used the old speed figs with no weight added would add up to top weight then down to todays weight
but topspeed is shown at 12 st lto i think so its just from top down now?

Agree with Renard Dirland being the Speed Horse SF 129

In 'Back In The Ring' SK gives the example.

On the flat figures are adjusted 10.0 [10 stone]

Over jumps to 12.0 [12 stone]

Korelo Last SF 125. Weight current race 10.12. [16 difference]

125 +16 =141 SF

ok i,m not moving on with this till i know......when you see on racing posts site a horses lto topspeed figure IS IT adjusted to 12st.......or would you need to adjust it up to 12st then down to todays weight...ffs....i always thought topspeed was shown adjusted to 12st anyone please...Les

thanks chilled...pmsl

Tafflizgregg,

have you managed to incorparate any of the other 2 sad ken Books that were copied up this week yet, I was thinking of the faster than Class angle and the form comments.

You seem to work very easy with this information

cheers

taff your pulling our chain here

renard d,irland...lto topspeed ........114 at 10st.8lbs......please get it to 144 for me talk me through it?

i,ll go through my way renard d,irland todays topspeed 129 its 15lbs under 12 st =129 +15 =144
all shown bar moleskin works that way

now slowly work renard d,irland to 144 please......Les

Think Taff is using 114 as its best Topspeed on the going, but I'm sure he will reply with his workings soon. Whatever the outcome it's great to have a great thread to debate on.
:dreads:

The top two speed horses are now shortlisted to balance with the top two form horses I believe.

Using the formula last year as stated in the book, my shortlist differed somewhat from the authors and in an email he stated 'These days I use the Topspeed Table'.

So todays 4:00 Kempton race I'd have shortlisted;

Renard D'Irlande..129 (114+15)
Moleskin...........109 (89+20)

Whereas the Topspeed table had;

Pete The Feat.....134
Moleskin...........132

It would appear that your scraper is adding the 20lb from Moleskin onto an already adjusted figure dicko14.

The TS for today for Moleskin is shown as 132 not 109

TO CLARIFY I ALLWAYS USE FIGURES THE LAST 2 FIGS OF TOPSEED THAT ARE UNDER THE BETTING FCAST
this must of been in same code hurdle/hurdle chase/chase to today race spec,if a horse has pu fell,i go to next if same code and then i check if highest of the 2 topspeed figs is the hihgest of horse in the last year which is easily readeable on same line of data,i personally dont see if its a career best as i think something cvould of been posted 6-7 years ago,asi keep saying its all ones own interpretation of the rules, while not been a great week this for it still in frony using the data the way i do
