Hong Kong Speed Figures

I wonder why Macau and Singapore died off yet Hong Kong thrives when they've all got a lot money rattling around the places

I'm surprised horse racing in Cyprus hasn't had more investment seen as 'investors' are turning parts of the northern coastline into the Vegas of the Med

A couple of pieces of happy news for the end of season. An excellent record for top trainer Mr Size.

John Size secured a record-extending 13th Hong Kong trainers’ championship at Sha Tin on Sunday (13 July) as the master trainer embarked on a familiar coronation march with a treble, further burnishing an extraordinary career.

Size sealed the championship with the wins of Sight Dreamer, Raging Rapids and Bundle Award to leave the Australian with 69 wins for the season – beyond the reach of compatriot David Hayes (60) – with only nine races left to be run at Wednesday night’s (16 July) Season Finale at Happy Valley.

Nearing the end of his 24th season in Hong Kong, Size added to the previous championships he won in 2001/02, 2002/03, 2003/04, 2005/06, 2007/08, 2009/10, 2011/12, 2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2022/23, and took his Hong Kong career tally to 1,612 wins – second overall to retired Australian John Moore (1,734).

George Moore held the record for the most Hong Kong trainers’ titles with 11 until he was joined in 2018/19 by Size, who has also finished second five times and third three times in the championship.

Characteristically modest, Size, 71, was proud and reflective on securing his latest crown.

“There’s a lot of satisfaction in that (winning) and probably something I’m very grateful to achieve,” Size said. “It’s a very strong and stiff competition and so therefore you have to rise up to it.

“As I’ve said before, I’m surprised that I’ve been so successful in Hong Kong. It’s always been a test of if I can keep performing at that level and, so far, I’ve been able to over 24 years and, God willing, and if my health is still okay, I can do it for a little bit longer.”

And great news after the horror pile up in February. He hasn't any rides since come back but no doubt return next season, had a couple of bad falls last 2 seasons though.

The Club’s Chief Medical Officer has advised that Freelance Jockey Vincent C Y Ho, who sustained injuries following a race fall at the Sha Tin race meeting conducted on Sunday, 9 February 2025, has been assessed today and been passed fit to resume riding in trackwork only from tomorrow, 4 July 2025.

I am just posting this as there was a race discussed on the Hong Kong phooey thread and I mentioned the great time judgement of Purton. These are my speed calculations for the day and in the difference column the highest minus are the fastest races. So Purton led all the way on Highland Rahy and only the next race was a faster comparing to the expected.

If anything interesting happens in the break will post a message or if anyone has any good ideas let us know!

Some ideas for the first HK meeting. Personally, I don't like playing first meetings. You never know who's really ready... Good luck all 🤞

Spend all the time doing ratings and sure jockeys are still the top way forward! 5 wins for Mr Purton on day 1 a great start for him.

Results and card attached for Wednesday.

So the interesting race here was the 9th race. After a day of increasing rain the going was changed after the 6th from Good to Good/Yielding. But then they changed it back after the 8th race. So on my going figures the going allowance for race 7,8 and 10 are different from the first 6 and a fair bit slower. The GA for race 9 is similar to the first 6 - so which is correct. My betting is that race 9 is hot, fair gaps between the first 3. Bulb General and Akashvani great efforts, 3rd Rising From Ashes getting on but the trainers horses were spot on Sunday. Those first 2 are heading upwards?

If you take any notice of the RP ratings, those for the last meeting of last season were the actual HK official ratings corrected here.

Great effort as ever from Ka Ying Rising and a decent time, Lucky Sweynesse a better effort but well below it's best.
