VDW hedgehog/stubble - trying to get lucky

Thanks T Thomas , you're doing well. I'll keep plodding along with this idea but I think what I do is often factored into the available odds. It's also factored into the forecast, it's amazing how often my 3 for a race are the first 3 in the forecast. Thanks again

Good luck today

Hello formtheory formtheory, the idea of the old boy spreadsheet is to help a chap who likes his betting but isn't very form savvy, to be honest neither am I. It was to give him a profitable method that he could use easily. I might be able to make a stab at sorting out one but the chap bets tips and lucky colours so I can't demand that from him.

2 races today, 1st has lost 3pts the 2nd is yet to run but probably another loss. It's not in a state were I'd suggests even the minimum bet on these selections.

Good luck today

This is not turning out to be the regular earner I'd hoped for for the old boy. I'll plod on but if anybody has a good idea for a new spreadsheet, something simple with the data easily available, I'd be grateful to hear it

Good luck today

I hope you find what works for you.
It took me a while to learn how to bet and the bets that work for me.

Good luck today.

Thanks The Uncouth The Uncouth, I'm really doing this for someone else so the selections are not backed by me and I wouldn't let the old boy bet them as the spreadsheet isn't good enough.

2 races today, 1st lost 3pts and 1 to run which I think markfinn markfinn has a better handle on the race than me. His idea is very good.

Good luck today

Something Simple -Race selection - then OR - Jockey and Trainer Ratings - how you weight them is very much dependent on how you view racing

Hello markfinn markfinn , I currently use OR and btn lengths in the old boy spreadsheet but though I usually get winners I'm coming to the conclusion this idea or something like it is already factored into the odds.I'll give your idea a go though, thank you for your help

The market finds lots of winners so its unavoidable to agree sometimes - this week in random races with larger fields than I would want the idea has found at SP 16/1 - 7/1 - 7/2 - 3/1 winners so not out and out fav;s if looking for longer odds more work (lots) is required -

With this type of rating I think its how you weigh the various items in the total that count - we have to decide what is important in order to win a race and not sure that beaten by distance is a good indicator and certainly would not consider placed last time out in any calcs -

I Look at like this way to win the race we are looking at three legged opportunity - Need Horse Trainer and Jockey -

1. in better races the horse is most important and it will have a good jockey and be trained by better trainer so more credance is given to to OR
2. In lesser the horses are not usually that great so - jockey and trainer are important

In all this the the horse cannot run anywhere if the trainer says no - so no matter what the race the trainer rating must be high

To sharpen the idea for the winter you could - If its strike rate that's important keep away from any over 8/1 - keep away from races with more than 10 runners - AW keep an eye on the draw in sprints on AW - I dont back at Lingfield

For me the odds and SR dont really matter 1 - 50/1 a week would do - the field sizes will drop - but I will still steer clear away from Lingfield

GMM Re your above why the Ling dislike.? Although tbh i have started to feel the same about Wolv with mine coming via my pocket as i cannot seem to buy a clear run or a winner there. I have not yet decided to stop betting there but its certainly crossing my mind.!

MMM - Not talking through the pocket as I have had success at Lingfield - it just appears to be to a very fair course one that produces to many blanket finish's - also some turf courses eg - Doncaster is another that I dont like - Wolves is possibly my Fav AW course although Newcastle is catching up - I like courses that only certain sorts can get.

Hi hedgehog hedgehog,
last day of the season at York and I've worked the Coral Sprint. My top 4 are below.
(1) Summerghand, (2) Hey Jonesy, (3) Aplomb, (4) Ice Age. Summerghand and Aplomb have good recent form and should run well. Hey Jonesy gets his rating here from his run at Ascot in the Wokingham. He hasn't done much since, but the trainer won this last season and he looks to have a decent chance again. Ice Age gets his rating here from last season. He hasn't been as good this season and consequently he has dropped almost a stone in the handicap. He may also have a poor draw, but if he could bounce back he could go close.

Good Luck Today

Good luck Nellsman Nellsman, I feel sure you'll get a profit there at tasty odds. Good luck again.

markfinn markfinn, I did something like what you outlined with horse, trainer and jockey strike rates. It got winners but not a profit as I remember. The horses it tended to pick were generally low odds as the oddsmakers had already factored it in. I'll give your idea more thought and will try it out. Thank you again for your help

Good luck today
