think the main point we all know or knew about looking about for odds changes in bookies to get better prices and yes you can live a life searching odds but what is the fun in daily life as that has maybe the biggest value on it.
My post wasn't to tell people what to bet on, or even how to bet. I fully understand people enjoy the puzzle of trying to find the winner of a race, but the reality is, that in order to be successful in this game, this is how it's possible.

Personally, betting made it possible to leave a job that wasn't going anywhere for me several years ago. I have a great work to life balance, compared to people my age. But it is a job for me, I have to put the hours in to make in work, and unfortunately outside the big festivals, I don't watch any racing.

Good luck gerry gerry , im back to doing it the old fashioned way myself now too. The puzzle is the fun part.
Wasn’t the Betfair premium charge set up to catch just what you described - many multiple bets all day every day. The rules were changed a couple of years ago

New rules
Betfair Expert Fee (from Jan 2025):
Applies if:
∙ £25k+ profit in last 52 active weeks
∙ Account in lifetime profit
∙ Total charges under 20% of 52-week gross profit
Rates:
∙ 0%: Under £25k (52 weeks)
∙ 20%: £25k-£100k (52 weeks)
∙ 40%: Over £100k (52 weeks)
Why: Ensures consistently profitable customers with low commission generation pay minimum 20-40% of profits. Affects <0.5% of users.
Key point: Dynamic system - rate adjusts up/down based on rolling 52-week performance. Old 250 market requirement dropped entirely.

Traders can have a different account to ordinary Joes.
Special trader accounts:
∙ Negotiated reduced commission rates (can go below 2%)
∙ Available for high-volume/high-turnover customers
∙ Must apply directly to Betfair
∙ Typically requires demonstrating significant trading volume.

Even for Normal punters I cannot see a reason why most would not be better of using Betfair - the liquidity is not what it once was but that would effect most punters .

Because if you are using betfair as the "marker"
Its much more difficult to beat the betfair SP price.
(it can be done, but you are looking at 6-7% rather than 15-17%)

They are the ones that move the market, we are picking off those who delay moving prices when the market is moving.

Yes I understand that you are using one to play of the other - I was referring to just straight backing punters not those using your mass betting method

Then yep, for the most part .. 90% would be better off using betfair.
Unless they like the gimmicky bets.

First past the post, BOG, the ability to bet the night before and other perks still makes the books attractive though.

I was FLYING when I had BOG with earlies and very little restriction, but those days are gone

So I had to learn how my winning bets typically behave in the market to know when to bet to have best chance of beating starting prices

Not sure what you mean - but I do know the markets pre race day are no good - the morning market is equally no good

I meant when I'm likely to get the best price for my selection.

I wouldn't claim to have mastered it yet but I'm certainly better than I was

yeah staggered bets can help but keeping records of the early, isp, bsp and actual price attained , to then refer back to and analyse helped me a lot
I think ( could be age ) time spent on relentless tracking and record keeping becomes a distraction - personally I would analyse the shit out of everything - the focus was to keep a 30% profit over 100 bets and tweak if necessary and start again All good and necessary to ensure I was not fooling myself.

But now ? If it’s in profit and I miss a trick or price ( other week I backed one at 15/1 and it won at 40 but was there liquidity ? ) either way I was happy enough .
