Compiling Speed figures.

Hi TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother - wind speed and omitted hurdles/fences, are these factored into your speed figures? Guess with the former over jumps you can be doing 2 laps round the track and would even itself out? And on the latter, my prior would be quicker times (but not massively so)?

I hope it doesn't spoil the party, but, I have to inform you that I'm also backing that one of Hills. Crowley has good form at the track, though I'm not particularly hopeful.

Quote from Hills post the run of Mutasaabeq.

"I had what was the Leicestershire Stakes in mind, but that wasn't for a few weeks and he was in great form, so we thought he'd be better off having a run rather than waiting until then," he said.

"He's done really well from three to four and I think we did the right thing giving him time off at the end of last season.

"This time last year he won well at Newmarket, but then he was thrown in at the deep end in the Guineas and it never really worked. We thought we'd start him off lower this year and work our way up to that level again.

"I think seven furlongs and a mile is his trip and he'll probably go for that Listed race at Leicester next."

Mutasaabeq is an Invincible Spirit homebred out of Ghanaati, who won the 1,000 Guineas in 2009 for Hills's father Barry.

"I hope we haven't seen the best of him," the trainer added. "He's a lovely looking horse and his attitude has been fantastic this year and today because he could be a bit stressy last year."

TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother Hi Mike,

How do you calculate going allowances for races abroad in France or UAE as there are no official ratings in order to find the average of the meeting.

Hope you are well.

Tom

The UAE and France both have official ratings, the French are normally in KG you can find these at websites like Geny.com, you just convert them into pounds,
The method I like to use is an RPR to pounds conversion (see Longchamp Sunday)
I just recently did a point-to-point using my experience and the tools available to me.

Thanks for the reply Mike.

So using the Flat Class Totals conversion table you use the RPR to see its OR.

That's perfect, thank you.

Hi TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother , was just looking at your figures for Monday's Hexham meeting. The bumper stood out for me, particularly given the finishing speed there (115% against par of roughly 106% (hurdles, admittedly) from Timeform). Then I looked at the standard times - Hexham looks like the only UK course where the NHF standard time is slower than the same distance over hurdles (judging by all of the other tracks it looks like it averages ~5 seconds quicker). Is this because the standard of bumper they get at Hexham is often comparatively worse than the hurdles races? Or could we just be looking at a dodgy standard time, in the context of all the other UK ones? Interested in your thoughts - cheers

I thought the performance of Twilight Falls at Newmarket on Thursday was impressive and the standout performance on the card, certainly a sprinter to follow.

"TWILIGHT CALLS is a smooth-travelling sprinter who connections are hoping can make the jump into Pattern races this year and, newly gelded, he kicked his campaign off with a stylish win, being set plenty to do before readily closing down the duelling leaders. He'll apparently be back at the Guineas meeting for the Group 3 Palace Stakes and he could easily make a name for himself this season."

QUOTES: Twilight Falls has matured since last year and must have fast ground and five furlongs. The plan is to bring him back for the Group 3 Palace Stakes on Guineas weekend - Henry Candy, trainer.

It's early days but it's my highest rated performance of the season so far, and one I'll certainly be looking to follow in the right circumstances
