First race at Newcastle alpine sierra ridden by the man seemingly with dementia.. had no trouble switching nikovo to the outside the other night.

Disastrous day……. Wyvern getting 2nd clawed a little back. Admiral D finished 4th (sky paid on the first 4). I wasn’t on with sky so it’s money to the bookies. Darlo Pride ran as expected The Ridler just wasn’t in it. Brian the snail off a featherweight won easily..

3.00 Southwell - Socialist Agenda 8/1

Three or four look as though they could take a hand in this one but at the prices im gonna give Socialist Agenda a go .. Was a fair seventh of eleven last time out after a break of 185 days , and hopefully he'll strip fitter for that run and can give a better account of himself here this afternoon. Before that break he had been consistent for the main part - 6,3,3,3,7,1,1,10 in his runs this year. Placed in his sole run over todays CD , but has won at distance before , and has a decent record when coming here to Shuvvel with a win and two places from his four runs to date. Being a horse whose used to running over hurdles as well as on the flat/all weather cant see the weight being too much of an issue. Trainer LJ Morgan sends just this one out today and hes won with two of his last three runners (-1,1,4) and has a 22% strike rate in the last fortnight , and has a 50% strike rate when coming here this season and a 29% strike rate overall. Jack Mitchell in the saddle for the first time and he has a 13% strike rate over the last three weeks , and he has an 18.7% strike rate when coming to ride here overall. If that initial run has got him spot on then i can see him going close at a decent price.

Just the one for tomorrow , quite liked Alex The Great in the same race but would want more than the 7-2/4-1 on offer at the moment. A few others from the shortlist that almost made it but for one reason or another were discarded
11.05 Southwell - Rebel Empire
12.40 Southwell - Bella Bisbee
2.25 Southwell - Gold Aura
3.00 Southwell - Alex The Great
3.35 Southwell - Street LIfe / Mehmo

11.05 Southwell - Rebel Empire 2nd 4/1
12.40 Southwell - Bella Bisbee Lost

3.00 Southwell - Alex The Great 3rd 10/3
3.35 Southwell - Street LIfe 2nd 4/1 / Mehmo Lost

Well all in all done the right thing in giving these a swerve , one winner (not sure of the early price tbh) , and two placers .. might post these regularly to see what would happen if i backed them .. Gold Aura was high up on the list but a bit like Port Noir seems to be placing regularly but not winning so gave it a miss

Another loser , but still not to despondent as a winner or two will see the deficit whittled down , admittedly i gotta find said winner(s) which is proving a hard job at the moment lol but im confident of turning it around

Monday 30th December

5.30 Wolverhampton - Nelson Gay 4/1 / Level Up 20/1 / Mumayaz 5/1

As you can see hedging me bets in this one , but hopefully one of them can win and i can come out ahead on the race .. Level Up appeals at a nice price , draw could of been kinder but i wouldnt totally dismiss his chances solely because of that. Has won three times this year and has been in fair form on and off , last couple of races he wasnt at his best but his mark has come down as a consequence and hes now 1lb below his last winning mark which gives him a chance imo. Seems to do quite well here at Wolverhampton with two wins and three places from his eleven runs over todays CD , Jordan Williams takes off a handy 5lb and hes been well worth his claim lately with a 27% strike rate over the last couple of weeks , and he has a 12% strike rate overall when coming here. Trainer David Evans sends just this one to the meeting , and he seems to be enjoying a purple patch at the moment with a 22% strike rate over the past fortnight , and when hes had Jordan Williams riding for him in the last three weeks they come away with a 17% strike rate. Could definatley show up well if overcoming the draw i think. Nelson Gay is the second one on my list , not been at best of late but did show up well last time with a half length second over this CD , and if arriving in the same sort of mood then i can see him going close once again. Has won off much higher marks than todays , looks decently enough drawn and has won in the class. Does well over CD with eight runs resulting in two wins and four places. Michael Dods is always one to watch in these sprint races i think and hes sent just this one to the meeting , has a 14% strike rate in the last three weeks and enjoys a 12% strike rate overall when coming to Wolverhampton. Sean Kirrane was on board last time for that second and i think he can make his presence felt. Lastly Mumayaz , one of two Tony Carroll runners (the other one being Secret Mistral) been in decent enough form this season , a length second to Darlo Pride last time out , over this CD , and i can see him going well here today on the back of that. Placed on sole start over CD (last time) and though hes yet to win here he has placed in four of his six starts. Only raced over todays distance four times resulting in a win and two places , draw could of been kinder admittedly but im still hopeful he can go close. Has won from this mark before , and class isnt a problem. Tony Carroll been amongst the winners lately with a 14% strike rate in the last three weeks , and when the jockey has ridden for him over the same period they have a 100% strike rate. Shouldnt be far away come the business end of things.

6.00 Wolverhampton - Peachey Carnehan 10/1
Peachey Carnehan is my choice in this one , bit of a standing dish round here at Wolverhampton with nine wins and twelve places at the course overall , and over this evenings CD he has six wins and eight places under his saddle so safe to say he knows his way round here like the back of his hoove. Fair fourth of seven last time , only beaten length and three quarters , been a little bit hit and miss this term but has won twice over CD in that time so im optimistic of a solid run. Has won from much higher than todays mark which also gives me hope that he can close in an open looking handicap. James Sullivan takes the ride and hes won three times on the horse.

7.30 Wolverhampton - Ciotog 7/1 / Outrace 11/1
Like the look of a couple in this one where i think at least three or four others look to hold chances as well , but at the current prices im happy enough to have my pair onside. First of those is Joint top weight Ciotog , who comes into this in decent form - two wins at Bath in October and then followed that up when last seen in November was a solid second over tonights CD , if in the same sort of mood i can see him going well again here. Has only won the once here , over CD , but has placed in a further six giving him a 50% strike rate (win and place) over CD. Mark Loughnane also has Lunarscape entered in this (stands a good chance as well) but i prefer the chances of this one personally , has an 11.3% strike rate when coming here this season and 7lb claimer Mason Paetal gets the ride for the first time , the claim wont go amiss , and i think he can go well. Outrace is my other choice in the race , had been running below par tbh but since the application of cheekpieces has run two decent races , both over CD , when first and second , and i cant see any reason why he cant go well again here this evening. A bit like the other selection has only won the once here but has placed in a further seven races (from eleven runs) , all over CD , and i honestly think that theres a good chance of him making it two wins here tonight. Gets in off the same mark as his last time second , and doesnt look to badly drawn to me. 7lb claimer Tyrese Cameron is value for his claim i think and hes won twice on the horse (and placed a further six times) , whilst Richard Hannon has a 20% strike rate in the past two weeks and has a 13% strike rate when sending his horses here. From bottom weight i think Outrace can run a solid race here this evening.

Well six selections for Monday (in three races) .. Might of done the wrong thing in putting three in the 5.30 but i honestly like the chances of them all , and if one wins then im ahead on the race so im happy enough (..if one can win!) .. Gogo Yubari was another in that race that was high on my short list but i shelved that one , just hope ive done the right thing.
From the others , the ones i looked closely at but left out were
7.00 Dyrholaey / Crimson Sand
7.30 Harbour Vision

5.40 Oriental Prince 9/4

My Bets
Nothing for today .. quite a few shortlisted and ones that i looked closer at .. 2.24 Urban Road and Midnight Lion caught my eye , but its a trappy race imo and one im happy enough to leave alone .. 3.34 Malc / Fire Demon were high on the shortlist and i liked both but two more on the shortlist and there were others in the race i couldnt honestly write off so another one that im happy enough to leave alone .. the 4.40 had 7 on the shortlist from which i could whittle it down to 4 but its a hard one to call imho as theres others besides those on the shortlist who i think can go close , and for me , one to leave alone. Last couple of races didnt really catch my imagination with the shortlisted horses so again races to leave alone.

Well missed a trick with Midnight Lion who won at 11/1 , still it shows that my thought process is on the right lines hopefully .. Ratings did okay and one of the best bets from those won (with a drift to boot) .. see what Thursday brings now

6.10 (1) Cloch Nua (2) Yaahobby (3) Martins Brig

Best Bets According To The Ratings
2.27 Busby 9/4
4.40 Angel Of Antrim 11/8

My Bets
3.02 Newcastle - Spartan Fighter EW @ 10/1

At the price i think Spartan Fighter could be worth an each way punt , was a decent third to Profitman three runs back over 7f at Chelmsford , hasnt matched that in two runs since with a sixth at Southwell and then last time out a fifth over this afternoons CD to Bellagio Man , who ran a sound race in defeat yesterday when second. Capable of better than those last two runs and if on song then i can see him getting involved at the business end of things , knows his way round here , last win came over CD back in October and overall hes won six times and placed a further twice (CD) and hes won from much higher marks than todays which is another thing that gives me optimism (and the last time he won here in October was off todays mark). Doesnt look too badly drawn to me , and has won in the class. Shouldnt be far away if on song i feel.

6.10 Newcastle - Elettaria 11/4
Elettaria catches my eye in this one , had a decent enough 2024 and i think theres a good chance she can pick up where she left off , was a decent third when last seen here , her first try over CD , but overall at the course has run well with a win and two places from her four outings. Think shes more than capable off going well in todays race , draw looks okay , as does the class. Has won and gone well from this sort of mark before so that shouldnt be an issue either. Trainer John Wainwright sends just this one to the meeting and Paul Mulrennan booked to ride , yet to win in two rides but has placed once. All things considered o think shes worth a go.

Two selections for Thursday , so fingers crossed .. Tomorrow Day in the 3.32 interested me , currently around 2/1 and i can possibly see Oriental Prince (who won yesterday) getting pulled out and as its current favourite i can see a hefty rule 4 if that happens so decided to leave it alone just in case .. In the 4.40 Angel Of Antrim obviously caught my eye but at its current price (best price EVs now) im happy enough to leave it alone , Bobby Joe Leg and Streak Lightning also interested me in the race as each way alternatives but id be wanting more than whats on offer currently pricewise , so that leaves the just two selections above

Well no luck with either of the two selections , but although only managing sixth Spartan Fighter werent that far away in sixth .. Ratings did okay , could of been better though , and the best bets again provided one winner from the two selections with the other one coming second , beaten a neck .. In the ones i considered , Tomorrow Day was a non runner and Angel Of Antrim obliged at a short price and Streak Lightning was second at 15/2

2.15 Lingfield - Overnight Oats 11/8
3.45 Lingfield - Doublethetrouble 7/2
6.00 Southwell - Whizz By 4/1

My Bets
1.15 Lingfield - Therapist 7/2

A few look like they could go well in this one but im siding with Therapist who was a sound third in a stronger race than this last time out , if in the same sort of form here today i can see her going well. Placed on both her starts here at Leafy , back up in trip shouldnt prove problematic given shes run and won over further. Doesnt look badly berthed to me , and it caught my eye that Nicky Henderson sends just this one out today , been in fine form lately with a 26% strike rate and when sending them here he has an 18% strike rate overall. Finley Marsh onboard and hes placed on his sole start on the horse (lto) , can go close.

4.30 Southwell - Young Endless EW 15/2 / Khangai 4/1
Like the look of a couple in this one , firstly Young Endless who is making a comeback from a 215 day lay off , but if fit and ready to roll first time up then i can see him making his presence felt. Yet to be unplaced here at Shuvvel with three wins and two places from his five runs to date , yet to win over todays distance which is slightly off putting admittedly but has won over further and i dont think that the distance is the problem as it was back in 2022 that he ran twice over 1m4f , since then its been over further and for the most part hes acquitted himself well , so im hopeful of a decent showing. Looks nicely berthed to me , won in the class and has placed off higher marks so again not too worried about the fact that he hasnt won from this high before. LJ Morgan sends just this one to the meeting and he has a 28% strike rate when sending his runners here overall. Joanne Mason in the saddle for the first time and she has an 11% strike rate when coming here to ride. Given his course record and current price i think hes worth a shot. The other one i like is Khangai , been in great form since October after 73 days off - 6,1,3,3,1,2 and i cant see any reason why he shouldnt run his race and go well once again. One from one over this afternoons CD , was a solid second lto over a couple of furlongs further last time here at Southwell where he was caught late on , and this drop to 1m4f shouldnt inconvenience as he won his penultimate race over todays distance at Wolverhampton and has a good record over todays trip with two wins and two places from six runs. James Owen been in cracking form and has an 18% strike rate over the last three weeks and has a 23% strike rate when racing here at Shuvvel. 3lb claimer Sean D Bowen has been a revelation this season and he takes the ride for the first time , and has a 16% strike rate when riding for the trainer in the past 21 days , has an 18% strike rate over the last three weeks and when coming here has a 17% strike rate overall. Should be in the thick of things come the business end of things.

Three selections for Friday in two races , could of gone for another race or two but considering my recent form im gonna stick with just the two races and see how i get on .. 12.45 Lingfield - Gogo Yubari stood out for me but Level Up , Master Of My Fate and Rainyniteingeorgia also look good so thought it wiser to leave the race alone .. Whizz By (6.00 Southwell) , Union Island / Commander Crouch / Kodebreaker (8.00 Southwell) , and Etretat / Calanthe (2.45 Lingfield) were others but as i say not confident so left them alone

My Bets
1.15 Lingfield - Therapist 7/2 Lost (4th)

4.30 Southwell - Young Endless EW 15/2 Unplaced / Khangai 4/1 :handgestures-thumbup: 1st 11/4
Well first winner on my bets for 2025 came today with Khangai obliging at 4/1 (SP 11/4) .. so a nice winner there and hopefully the first of many more .. no luck with the other two bets today with Therapist coming 4th and each way shot Young Endless only managing 7th .. Ratings for Lingfield a bit hit and miss as far as im concerned but still managed to find five winners .. Southwell ratings performed okay as well , with four winners found but could of been better .. Four best bets from the ratings , three losers , one winner 4/1 (SP 7/2) so covers the losers and comes out a little ahead so happy enough with that .. Was right to leave Gogo Yubari alone who could only manage third , with Master Of My Fate (one of the other ones i liked winning) , Whizz By obliged as did Etretat so thats two winners i missed out on but none of those in the 8.00 won , two managing second and third.

Best Bets According To The Ratings
6.05 Wolverhampton - Fircombe Hall 9/2

My Bets
3.22 Southwell - Van Zant EW 33/1

At the prices im gonna take a chance with Van Zant who admittedly will have to show improvement on recent outings but if anywhere near his best then i think he can go close in this. Won here off higher back in March last year and ran some respectable races in defeat from higher marks so im hoping that now hes racing from todays kind of mark he can make his presence felt at a decent price. Placed on both starts over this afternoons CD and at Shuvvel overall hes had eight runs resulting in a win and four places so obviously acts on the surface. Draw looks a decent enough one to me , and the fact that Joanne Mason is one from one on him and is re united with the horse makes me think that maybe a solid run could well be on the cards. As ive said before im a big fan of Ruth Carr and im hoping this is one of those times she shows me why !

5.35 Southwell - Just Ten High 9/4
Just Ten High is the one im going for in this handicap , a few others look as though they could go well but i think the selection takes the beating. Won nicely over CD a week ago and im hoping that he can repeat that here , that was his first attempt at 6f so at just 4 years old theres quite possibly more to come , does well here at Shuvvel with two wins and a place from his four runs , wore blinkers for the first time lto and they're retained again today. Trainer Dylan Cunha has a 25% strike rate over the last couple of weeks and when coming here he has a 17% strike rate overall , jockey Kyle Strydom in the hot seat for the first time and he has a 50% strike rate in the last three weeks , as do the trainer / jockey when they've teamed up over the same period. Should be bang there come the business end of things.

6.20 Wolverhampton - Optician 9/4 / Wonder 3/1
Two for me in this one , firstly Wonder who is one from one here at Wolverhampton , that win came after 401 days off in his penultimate run and followed that up with a fair fourth of eight to Asgards Captain at Newcastle (the third home that day has gone in since Knockbrex) , that was a decent little race imo and i think he can go well again here today if still in the same kind of form hes shown in his previous two races. This is a step up in distance for him but trainer Jamie Fanshawe is as shrewd and knowledgable as they come imho so im assuming is shouldnt be a problem. Trainer has a 20% strike rate in the last fortnight and it didnt go un noticed that he sends just this one to the meeting this evening , and he has a 17% strike rate when coming here overall. Dylan Hogan been amongst the winners with a 16% strike rate over the same two week period and he has a win and two places from his five rides to date. Should be on the premises. Optician is the other one i like for this , won over CD last time out , beating Hedonista by a cosy looking length and three quarters , before that was second to the re opposing Parramount , beat that one in last time out race (third) , fourth home Dreams Adozen went in on next run and the second home Hedonista was second to that , so form looks to be fairly decent i think. Horse seems to thrive round here with a win and a place over CD from his two runs to date , and overall at the course has five wins and two places from nine outings. Trainer Shaun Lycett in good form with a 50% strike rate in the last fortnight and he sends just this one to the meeting , Charlies Bishop in the saddle and hes placed on his only ride on the horse to date. Shouldnt be far away.

7.50 Wolverhampton - Urban Sprawl EW 8/1 / Island Bandit EW 11/1
Open looking race where im siding with a couple of nicely priced runners against the field , first one of those is Urban Sprawl who looks well treated on his best form , coming back from 75 days off but im hopeful of a decent run that will justify the each way support , has never won here at Wolverhampton but has placed on both runs here (both over this evenings CD). Infact has never won on the all weather in nine runs but has placed in seven of those runs so im thinking its only a matter of time before he gets his head in front and hopefully today could be that day ! Was fifth at Shuvvel when last seen , but before that had run two solid races when winning at Pontefract and before that a head second at Ayr. Has never won coming off a break but has come second so , again , hopeful that hes ready to roll first time up. Has won and gone close from marks higher than this in the past (turf) and has won in the class before , the draw looks okay and it caught my eye that David Probert (15% strike rate past two weeks) is back in the saddle , won on his sole start on the horse back in 2022 when winning a class 2 at Ascot. Trainer Charlie Johnston is bang in form at the moment with a 27% strike rate over the last two weeks and has an 11% strike rate when coming here to Wolverhampton overall. Island Bandit is my other selection for the race , ran best race for a while when a head second over this CD back in October , then came fifth in his next and last outing in November over 1m2f at Leafy. Think returning to this distance will play to his strengths as he seems to run his better races over this kinda trip , placed on sole start here and placed on both starts over todays trip , doesnt look to badly berthed to me , and gets in from the same mark as he raced off lto. Yet to win on the artificial surfaces but has run well on them and has won from higher marks than this albeit on the turf , if putting his best foot forward i think he can make his presence felt here. Heather Main sends just this one to the course tonight and she has a 14% strike rate overall here at Wolverhampton , Jack Doughty claims a useful 3lb and has his first ride on the horse and has a 20% strike rate in the last couple of weeks.

Six selections for tomorrow in four races , hopefully we can come out ahead , and fingers crossed that the bigger priced ones can go well. Could have gone for a few more tbh .. Southwell 6.35 i had a shortlist of four , whittled down to one (Ormolulu) but not fully fully convinced of its chances so left it alone , Miakoda in the 5.20 Wolverhampton caught my eye , but theres a couple of others id be worried about and at the price thought it best to leave alone , Rosepur and Ignar Lamar in the 6.50 Wolverhampton were fancies but not 100% about them so again left the race alone , 7.20 i shortlisted four and couldnt whittle them down (Split Elevens , City Cyclone , American Rose and Plumette) so passed , and in the 8.20 a shortlist of six was still a shortlist of six after a couple of hours so i gave up on the race lol. One selection for the ratings best bets so fingers crossed for that one.
