Handicap Class Droppers

"The main problem with the HH races today are the number of seasonal debut runners taking part. Yesterday's races had more recent form to go on and there's certainly no horse dropping from a recent 2nd in a 40k race to find amongst the hurdlers today."

Well there was a top weight dropping in class from a recent 40k race. I spotted it. But bottled it.

A classic case of a horse with form in better races being dropped in class with a big weight to collect.

Ike Sport had been 2nd in a 42k race at Aintree then won a 6k race at the same venue the following month. First run this season back up to a 42k race at Chepstow and pulled up after being midfield most of the race. Class horse in the race with the best form on offer.

You have to be bold if you want these decent priced winners. It was very similar to a horse I did back at Sedgefield recently in Williethebuilder who won off top weight dropped in class at 9/1.

Warwick 3:38 I see Playful Fox as the class/form horse and I'm having a bet on that one.

Just watched class/form horse Applejack Poet win as 20/1 outsider off 10-13 despite running 2nd LTO in a more valuable race. Didn't back it.

Could see that fall coming with Playful Fox. Skelton panicked and made up a lot of ground to take on Bowen's horse and they all got racing too early in those 3 fences before they turn in. So often I see that happen at Warwick at those 3 fences. Something invariably falls as they come up in quick succession.

That was disappointing from Jolly Potter. Came from 12th with steady headway to arrive between the last two looking all over the winner and it didn't pick up well enough after the last. Must have been a short price in running.

The other horse finished nigh on last.

Mickey Cohen pulled it out of the fire after looking likely winner and making a mistake at the last, but rallied to get up in a 4 way photo at 15/2.

I'm going to spend some time reviewing all my data on the HH method. Because I'm seeing things amongst the numerical pictures that time and time again are trapping the winner but don't actually fit in with 6 examples VDW gave. Some do, some don't but in amonsgt my daily shortlists there are a lot of winners to be found, but over analysing the form does not seem to isolate them from the others.

Bit miffed several got away today, and my first thought on the last race at Warwick this morning was I expect Ballymoreen to be the choice, but it didn't quite fit. Should have gone with my gut instinct that here was an unexposed hurdler who had been handicapped on runs that did not reflect it's true ability.

I looked at 2 races at Wolverhampton for tonight. The class 4 handicaps.
The fist looked nasty stuff.
The 2nd had 2 horses I was most interested in from the 3 most consistent. But I decided to let the race go with the presence of the fav who could have been well handicapped if the gelding op had worked.
Anyone looking at the 3 most consistent will be able to see which 2 horses I had the interest in.
Shame it didn't stretch to having a betting interest in them.

So a revised approach to the HH races today. Research has shown me that a 9 week cut off point for a runner's last racecourse appearance is about the most efficient. Especially as we move further into the season. It has become noticeable in the last few weeks that less seasonal debutants are collecting and recent form is proving the better. Which makes sense.

Also I've been looking at the stats on where those runners fit into the class elements and of course the first filter of probability the betting.

Hopefully this doesn't all go up in smoke today.

Wexford 2:37 Ardera and The Cobbler's Wife and as I favour the former I'm going to split my stakes 50/50 at the likely prices ensuring a better return for Ardera but a still profitable return if TCF wins again.

At Nottingham 1:20 The class/form horse dropping in class is Pole Star. He owes me money. Hopefully he repays it today. I've also backed Shaffron too.

 Tufnel Tufnel with POLE STAR. Had that one myself, went off 10.5 on BetFair, somehow??
It jumped off the page. 3rd in a 50k race over 1m 6f then won a 51k race over 2m and then up in distance and class LTO down the field not knocked about. His AR was well ahead of the others but earned from multiple handicap wins at a good level and he'd won one of those recenty. Top weight down in class on going he was 2 from 3 and a good 7lb claimer on board who gave it an intelligent ride to keep tabs on known tearaway Cascade Hall.

6/1 was nice but 9.5/1 would have been better. Just happy it won.

Chepstow 3:40 The only other handicap hurdle on offer today shows up 3 to look at but none of them seem to hold what I'm looking for. The 2 that finished 2nd and 3rd to Ugo Bingo over the course LTO were big enough prices and hadn't shown much beforehand. The Skelton horse might turn out to be better than it has shown at some stage.

The horse I actually think will win it is the Sam Thomas runner who caught everybody's eye last run in the spring geeting it's handicap mark. The trainer and the owner have a knack of getting their hurdlers well handicapped and then running up a few wins and this horse looks to have followed that route also.

I am going to have a wager on this one, who doesn't fit the days since last ran filter, but I'm sure local trainer Mr Thomas will have this one ready to show it's real colours today at Chepstow. So I'm backing Angel Wave.

Going with the Erin in another book here at Musselburgh 3:17 with Dandy Magic, Homestrait and The Resdev Scholar.
Hopefully nobody falls off in this one.

2 out 4 races in the end, though unlucky to not be 3 with Mr McWhinny unseating at the last when look likely to win in my view.

The Thomas horse was withdrawn at the start in the 3:40 at Chepstow due to the jockey's concerns it was lame. In the event the Skelton horse did indeed turn out to be a handicap blot and I only wish I'd switched and had some on, because the rest of the field really were awful on the book and Dan seems able to win with anything in these type of events these days.

I again noticed lots of consistent/Erin winners being trapped again today and my 2 books were based on that.

The Wexford handicap hurdle did in fact got to one to a horse with recent form, first 6 of the betting and coming from one of the class races. But it had shown nothing at all, but still went off under 5/1. A lot of shenanigans goes on in these handicap hurdle events. My two in the race ran well just not well enough.

Here is my overview of the race Pole Star won. Another clear cut class/form horse dropping to collect near the top of the handicap.
