KATHEEFA was up to a career-high mark after returning from a break with a win at Wolverhampton but it made little difference as he recorded his third C&D win. Travelling strongly off the front, he only had to be nudged out to score and is clearly a sprinter in top form. Another rise will be due now, but more wins here cannot be ruled out.
CLAP YOUR HANDS, who put 9l between himself and the rest from a furlong out to win easily over 1m4f here on Boxing Day, looked chucked in under his penalty, and Poppy Bridgwater took another 5lb off. Held up at the back of the field, he sauntered into contention round the outside and his jockey barely had to shake him up to draw clear and win eased down. Even his new mark may not stop him from completing a four-timer.

Rainbow Dreamer, highlighted by
TheBluesBrother after his December win completed the hat trick in fine style last night.
A no bet race for me as I felt Mildenberger may have too much class but the said named IMHO doesn't get the 2 miles based on his run here.
RD was always travelling like the winner & is now 3-3 on the AW.
Aged 7 yet in form of its life.
The final on Good Friday will surely be on the agenda now but the track ???

I guess the h'cppr cannot do too much with the rating but what price next time.
Doyle seemed to get a breather into the gelding once she'd latched onto to the back of the field.
I dare say the lungs would have been full when she asked TP to quicken but the lactic acid must have been burning late.
Whatever the price next time the run will be watched with keen interest.

I must admit after watching the race, to the eye Today Power looked impressive, what did I learn?
The polytrack racing surface was riding at the slowest it has been for a very long time at +0.06s/f (standard), and the pace of the race wasn't that fast which visually exaggerated the performance Today Power.
Just looking at the speed figures for Today Power they are not that impressive, had he not missed the start I doubt that he would have bettered his best figure of 43.

FIDDLERONTHEROOF was the top domestic hope on previous form, but this was yet another step up and he impressively handed Colin Tizzard a third winner of the race since 2017. The imposing performer sluiced through the mud over C&D last month and this terrain held no fears. He shrugged off a 7lb weight concession to the smart runner-up and seemed to have a deal left in hand passing the finish. This race is a leading pointer for the Supreme Novice Hurdle each season, and his ante-post odds were slashed across the board, with Ladbrokes most impressed at just 7-1. Out of a Montjeu mare, a stiff 2m around Cheltenham should be ideal. However, if the ground dries up that will surely tempt connections towards a shot at the Ballymore in March, for which he was cut to a general 10-1 shot.

I was very impressed with the speed figure of 127 Elixir D'ainay earned when runner up to Envoi Allen, puts him up there with the very best.
Elixir D'Ainay made this a real test and didn't hang about in front. He was big and novicey at a couple, but was generally very good. However, when Envoi Allen headed him after the second last, he couldn't pick up as well as that rival who remains unbeaten. He is a talented prospect in his own right.
Today's top NH speed figures:

On Sky Sports racing last night they were waxing lyrical about the lofty plans for Global Giant like Meydan for example just because he is now trained by John Gosden.
He managed to win the race off a moderate early pace, to mix it with the big boys on the world stage he would need to produce speed figures in the '90s.
GLOBAL GIANT was making his debut for John Gosden, having left Ed Dunlop, after a 191-day break. He is a previous Listed winner over slightly further on Dundalk's Polytrack. The 5yo clearly relished the return to the AW after running fifth in a Curragh Group 3 previously in June. He picked up really smartly in the home straight to rout this opposition and is surely capable of winning Group races on synthetic surfaces or quick turf.
WILL TO WIN, after a 200-day break, had been gelded. He was shouldering a 7lb penalty for making all on Lingfield's Polytrack in June. The 3yo showed a good attitude to fend off his main form rival. He has the potential to continuing improving as he edges up in trip and could develop into a fairly good handicapper.

MCGOWAN'S PASS took the race by the scruff of the neck from the home turn and shrugged off a 322-day layoff in style, landing some decent bets in the process. The 9yo has evidently turned a corner and, while this rather fell apart, it'll be interesting to see how he handles a hike.

Do you ever allow for the small field factor
TheBluesBrother ?Pre race, my only view was Hornby would get done tactically in the race, which was correct but the horse would never have won regardless.
Considering he lost ground at the start and his turn of foot at the end, I was impressed by Global Giant in the circumstances, even though he was clearly expected to win.
Just read Simon Rowlands piece on Tramore / chases / Al Boum Photo, he reckons from google earth there is 5f 160 yds between the 2 distances, and if you use sensible standards last years Gold Cup winner is still the real deal with a top class run on the day.Cheers Mike

Tramore - obviously there's a big error in distances measured there, they've got 16f races and 21f races basically and the latter are all coming up about 6 stone worse than the former! Bloody silly, you'd imagine in any sane world this would make them scratch their heads a bit and wonder if they'd been measuring things right.

I think myself last years gold cup stood up well time wise also so we could be seeing a multiple Gold Cup winner in waiting.
Only 9 weeks away and 5/1 starting to look value, it’s all been a bit messy with the other contenders so far. Had that punters intuition since I watched the Tramore race that he was the one again.

It was his first semblance of an error and he'd almost certainly have won. Compensation surely awaits.

No doubt he handled the ground best, but there was a lot to like about his jumping and he wasn't stopping at the finish. It wouldn't surprise to see the 7yo out quickly under a penalty (entered at Leicester later in week.

He tanked into the lead towards the potentially favoured far side from a low draw and won well thereafter. Regarding the improved form, Karl Burke felt the first-time visor benefited the gelding on this occasion.

No, I don't.
My best speed figure for Global Giant is 70, to compete in class 1 events and win, I would expect him to be able to achieve a figure of at least 90+, you have to ask yourself the question can he improve another 20lbs if he was to run at Meydan and be competitive?
