Compiling Speed figures.

Outlander, your standard times will reflect a leniency bias towards longer distances because they aren't compiled properly. You can't compile a list of standard times from each 20th percentile for example by distance ( or adjust the percentile according to the number of times you are using) because that is completely unrealistic.
That’s not how my sheets calculate standards, I know that taking a median or percentile for each distance is unrealistic, my sheets are much more sophisticated but they were still struggling with the odd distance where there was not many races and being to lenient , I’ve corrected it since the new year and the results I’m getting(only flat racing have been very promising ) but I still find distances with few races in the data not quite as reliable.

I'm new on here so not sure if you can message me directly but if you can and want to then do so

When a Bumper horse tops the speed figures take notice.

ENERGUMENE has the makings of a classy performer. A point-to-point winner on his debut for the Laceys, who also won between the flags this six-year-old's talented stablemate Blackbow, the Denham Red gelding missed 672 days until returning at Navan in November. He was keen when third on that occasion and could have settled a little better here on the front end, always travelling with purpose. He looked as though he was about to score by a wide margin when moving on in the straight but just kept going well to score comfortably by a lesser margin. Connections believe the best of him will be seen when over a fence and visually this smart performance gave the same impression.

QUOTES: I'd say he's still learning and will learn from today. His future will lie over fences. I'm not sure what the plan is with him, plenty of horses missed last year with the ground and he was around then. I'd say he has a fair engine - David Casey, assistant trainer to Willie Mullins, trainer of ENERGUMENE

FORESEE, in good form when last seen in November, returned from a little break to take this in convincing fashion. The step back up to 1m4f suited him. He'll avoid a penalty if turned out quickly.

SWISS PRIDE was punted to overcome quite a big ratings gap with the second and third and did so with little fuss. Although the winner of two claimers last year, this must still rank as a better effort despite the favourite under performing. He's consistent and it's surprising he's never won a handicap.

REEVES made it 4-4 since switching to AW, defying a 3lb higher mark than at Wolverhampton last time. In the form of his life, there should be more to come yet.

TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother in an attempt to gain that PhD for solving Standard Times at Tramore NH I converted my Flat sheet to NH and put data in for Tramore, the results were more different to the RP Standards than I could have envisaged beforehand. Mind boggling !

O Outlander

You know when it is bad, the last meeting at Tramore "Top Speed" didn't have any speed figures for four of the races.
I did have a play about with the standards as well.

We really have no chance of compiling accurate standard times, a new record was set today at Wetherby, due to rail movements the 3m(C) distance was increased by 300yds (20.0s).

Topspeed has 0 rating for Al Boum Photo in that Tramore race, I reckon on the BHA scale the performance would be 160 speed rating , the sheet I knocked up earlier doesn’t calculate the ratings but it was a top class speed rating imo

CHARLIE STOUT was running from 8lb out of the handicap but Conor McNamara's claim aided that cause. He has been quite a consistent sort at a lower level but he upped his game considerably here. His jumping is slick and accurate so that's a big bonus in races like these. He was in front soon enough, as his rider eluded to afterwards, but two good jumps in the home straight sealed the deal. The trainer is keen to have a crack at the 2m1f handicap chase at the Dublin Racing Festival, won last year by Quamino, and why not? He will probably be a single-figure price for it. Quicker ground would not be an inconvenience either.

QUOTES: "That's brilliant. He was unlucky at Christmas and was unlucky with Thurles being called off too. We stuck him in this beforehand thinking if he won in Thurles or Leopardstown he'd be in the handicap. I'm just delighted for the horse to have come back because he was lost there for a while. We figured out what was wrong with him and got him right. We might go to Leopardstown. He'll have an entry anyway in something at the big meeting - Shane Nolan, trainer of
CHARLIE STOUT

Avenir D'une Vie backed up his C&D success with an even better effort here off 8lb higher. These are his conditions and he might not be as effective on quicker ground during the spring. He pulled 17l clear of the third.

Bustaan shaped with a good deal more promise than either of her first two starts. She was caught behind horses when the winner kicked on but kept on nicely all the way up the straight, in the manner of a filly that will stay further, and there is more to come from her.

ASDAA came over from an awkward draw to win well from the front. He kept finding in taking fashion in the second half of the straight and is another likeably tough individual for trainer Mark Johnston. The 4yo is entered over 1m at Newcastle in six days time and there could be more to come over that extra furlong.

doomster doomster,

Had no financial involvement today.

But having recently read your post re' Requited & remembering TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother had highlighted the said horse' performance on 4/10/19 I have just reviewed the Class Ratings sheet to see 'R' well out of it using the last three runs as a guide.

That said if the 'R' that produced a 67 figure off an OR 67 in October turned up here one would have expected a much better performance.

One point to note as you have already pointed out this was a better race than the one in which 'R' produced its figure.

Brings up a question I am currently giving a lot of thought too with regards to the all aged hcaps, ie - is current form more valuable than slightly older form?

A check on the Southwell results today suggests the last 3 runs is a place to find "well stocked waters. "

Alas, this is not always the case hence the puzzle that is horse racing.

Not seen today's race as yet but 'R' must surely get a 3 - 4 lbs drop for this effort.

Regards,

Thank you TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother After watching the racing on ITV on Saturday I was anticipating Kimberlite Candy putting up a big figure. Maybe it was the camera tracking the leaders that made it seem they were going fast(er), perhaps the commentator saying about the pace....or did I imagine that....anyway ....just goes to show....need to see for the figures to get the definitive view.

I doubt he will get a 3-4lb drop @pinemarten as it comes under the too bad to be true banner.

I watched the race and have to agree, I got the impression that the horse wasn't trying an inch.
In September and October, he runs speed figures of 58 and 67 which would good enough to win any class 5.

Is Hughie handicapping the horse for another class 6 handicap?

Although it was the price drift that grabbed my attention on Requited, his form behind behind Zapper Class ( now 83 OR) and Samovar ( now 82 OR) over 5f,, plus in front of Private Matter who is fav for a C4 today, admittedly over 2f further, gave my no reason to think C5 level would be an issue.

His run behind Queen Of Kalahari over C&D looks standard C6 form, until you consider he was giving a stone to that winner who is now rated 15lb higher and won a C5 lto.

The way the horse has been placed is baffling.

Having mentioned Ben Curtis on another thread, I do think there is more strength to be gathered from a jock booking at this time of year.

Whilst I'm not a Luke Morris fan and ATR had doubts about the chances of Le Maneche Enchante being at the base of the h/cap, he has the best recent form and clueless about whether the mark for the unexposed ones, but I'd have to give the chances of LME, as Grace McEntee was on the 2nd fav, who I feel is generally over-bet for some reason.

Hello TheBluesBrother TheBluesBrother , I'm continuing to build up my tracker horses, thanks to this excellent thread. Sorry if these questions have been asked before. If a horse's name is in bold capitals are they ones you are adding to your tracker. And, what is the significance of the official ratings that are highlighted in yellow please. Thank you.
