Cheltenham Festival 2024

Hi, I was there yesterday and for me its just a great craic, the whole day, once organized is delightful, 3 winners and a small loss on the day doesnt altar the enjoyment.

However if I was an owner I would be seriously asking questions as to why you would get a horse trained with a UK trainer, I cannot believe we couldn't get a horse in the Queen mother to be competitive as the 2 UK horses went out like a light.

There is definitely something wrong with the UK calendar of races, its almost like the Ryder cup, very one sided until we introduced Europe, however hats of to Mr Mullins, he can only beat what's in front of him and if that's best the UK can offer we need to have a really hard word with our selves

Obviously feel for N Henderson, something is amiss in the stable at this crucial time, well done Dan Skelton though, thats how to train and get ready!

Yes wonderful training, con the public for a whole year, every year, handbrake on 40/1+ every run no intention of running it on its merits, handbrake off when you feel like it, same with Favior , stinks the place out .

O Outlander

same mark as last year and run at different distances, plus the prices told you not to back until possibly today, any way racing is a game of opinions and still stand by mine that the UK just doesn't seem to have the horses or owners willing to put up.

I believe and I may be wrong but didnt son of flika do the same for McCain

Afraid I like the fav Facile Vega for the 13:30 Turners Novices Chase (Grade 1) (Registered As The Golden Miller) (GBB Race) (1) 5yo+ : Prize Money £98472.50
It's in the top 2 in my online ratings and it features strongly in the trial race stats i.e. coming 2nd in the Supreme Novices Hurdle last year and winning the Punchestown KPMG Champion Novice Hurdle last year.
So betting my top two rated Facile Vega and Ginnys Destiny.

Get in Skelton's & Cobden! Awesome. If Crambo wins now I'm loving it.

EDIT: Ha, I knew I shouldn't have my big mouth, jinxed him, still got two nice doubles today, and I've got an Alex Ferguson trixie and treble on the go, I need L'Eau Du Sud to win the County, fingers crossed.

I hope everyone's doing well, if not, good luck for tomorrow.

The Spring Juvenile Hurdle run at Leopardstown has had a massive bearing on the result of this race. Below is the record of the first two in the Leropardstown race in the Triumph Hurdle.

2023...1-2
2022...1-2
2021.. 1...second didnt run
2020...7
2019...P-3
2018...2-1
2016...3
2015...5-P
2014... 3-1
2013... 1-4
2012... 2-4, the third at Leopardstown won.

Kargesse and Storm Heart attempt to keep the record going this year. Both trained by Willie Mullins whose record with horses that finished first or second in the Juvenile Spring Hurdle at Leopardstown since 2016 reads 332121.

4 horses weren't that far apart at the DRF, and Bunting is 11/1, so I think my single will be Bunting E/W. Kargese is in most of my accas, and I quite like Nurburgring in this as well so I've got him in a few accas too. Storm Heart is in a Gigginstown acca I put on. And I have a decent punt on Salver @ 14/1, plus put him in a fair few UK doubles & trixies today (Gary Moore, Alex Ferguson, Cobden & Skelton).

I wonder if Friday is going to be my worst day again like it has been the last 3 years. I could take it easy today and take a profit from the festival, or go nuts and win more, or lose it all. Either way, I've enjoyed it and I shouldn't really lose anything other than profit at this stage, so it's been a good year for me.

Yeh I watched last years Gold Cup again and Bravemansgame jumped well, like Protektorat yesterday, if he can get a good round of jumping in he might have a chance.

I've enjoyed the festival it, but something does need to change. I'd knock it back to 3 days as some of these races are pointless and just weaken other races. I know the Stayers isn't a handicap and the Pertemps is, but how the hell is the Stayers Hurdle the same distance as any other hurdle race, surely it should be longer. Cross Country pointless, Martin Pipe pointless. Hunters Chase pointless.

I think we need to reduce the number of meets in the UK. UK horses seem to hide from other good horses and just select easy races they know they can win, so reduce the number of races and make them all face off against each other more often and they might be better. Irish horses have to face off against each other more often as there's only ever one meet, occasionally two. UK horses look good smashing poor fields, then face off against good horses and get shown up.

Is it not a fact that decent horses in uk are sold abroad where as Irish ones are not ?
Countries that buy U.K. flat horses like HK and AUS buy Irish horses just as much.
Very rarely would any countries buy U.K. NH horses, all the best jump horses are Irish and French.
Only 1 british bred horse Golden Ace has won so far at Cheltenham this year, even Germany is more likely source for winners , same every year.

I thought that was fantastic, but it helps when you finish up, £286 up over the festival, by far my best year in 4 years, I just needed another horse to win on a number of bets and it would have been very very good.

Ended up at £130ish ,but if Brighterdaysahead and Dino Blue had gone in ,it would have been well over a thousand. Feel a bit deflated ,but when i saw the weather for week ,i think i would have taken that .Dont think i am going in on so many Ante posts next year ,but then again ive said that before.
