Cheltenham Festival 2025

  • Race 1 - Supreme - Kopek Des Borders 4/6f
    • Good run from Kopek Des Borders, and a good run in 2nd for William Munny 7/1.
  • Race 2 - Arkle - Jango Baie 5/1
    • Bad ride or bad run from Majborough, but clearly the class horse in the race, if he'd have jumped better or just not smashed the 2nd to last fence he would have won.
  • Race 3 - Ultima - Myretown 13/2f
    • Best round of jumping at the festival I thought, cracking jumping from the punted Lucinda Russell horse, best jump of the festival as well at the last, flew it.
  • Race 4 - Mares Hurdle - Lossiemouth 4/6f
    • Lossiemouth showed why she should have run in the Champion Hurdle, class above the rest of the field, and if she'd have gone to the Champion Hurdle the Mares would have still had 9 runners and been competitive, and the Champion Hurdle would have had 8 runners pays 3 instead making it a better race, and if the same thing happened Lossiemouth would have won it, idiots.
  • Race 5 - Champion Hurdle - Golden Ace 25/1
    • Shocking race, all State Man had to do was jump the last, awful jumps from both him and Constitution Hill, jumped and landed on the hurdle.
  • Race 6 - Juvenile Handicap Hurdle - Puturhandstogether 17/2
    • Good win for the JP McManus horse, he had a good festival but it could have much better, few close 2nd's.
  • Race 7 - National Hunt Chase - Haiti Couleurs 7/2
    • Capped off a strange opening day with another favourite winning one of the handicaps, ran well, won easily really.

  • Race 1 - Turners Novice Hurdle - The New Lion 3/1
    • Ran well, good race, another win for JP McManus (buying up the best horses before the festival starts)
  • Race 2 - Brown Advisory Novices Chase - Lecky Watson 20/1
    • Absolute shocker from Ballyburn and Dancing City, ruined loads of bets for me, but on reflection, Lecky Watson was the value bet here, missed it.
  • Race 3 - Coral Cup - Jimmy Du Seuil 16/1
    • I had this in a few bets plus a single, ran well, good win, and should have had it in more bets (W P Mullins).
  • Race 4 - Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase - Stumptown 5/2
    • Didn't look like winning after the 3rd last, but took the 2nd last well and never looked in danger after that, well backed.
  • Race 5 - Champion Chase - Marine Nationale 5/1
    • Best result of the festival for me, enjoyed it, good / nice win.
  • Race 6 - Grand Annual - Jazzy Matty 15/2
    • Good win, ran well - should have had a big double with Marine Nationale for Michael O'Sullivan, missed that one, pundits could have told us earlier though, and it was 5/1 earlier, drifted to better odds, should have used SP.
  • Race 7 - Bambino Fever 4/1
    • Another good win, ran really well, never looked in doubt 2f out.

This could of/should have been my best day really, I fancied The New Lion, I had Jimmy Du Seuil, Stumptown, Marine Nationale, Jazzy Matty and Bambino Fever, I'd fancied Marine Nationale and Bambino Fever before it started, but somehow, didn't manage to put 6 in one bet.

Also, I knew Michael O'Sullivan had won on Marine Nationale and was always backing that, but if I'd have known he'd also won on Jazzy Matty earlier I'd have had a big double on those two. If William Munny had won the supreme I'd have hit a huge double with Marine Nationale, that was the big one for my festival.

  • Race 1 - Mares Novices Hurdle - Air Of Entitlement 16/1
    • I was gutted I didn't have a big single on this one, RobCor owner, Rachael Blackmore riding, sneaked up and pipped the favourite on the line.
  • Race 2 - Jack Richards Novices Chase - Caldwell Potter 7/1
    • Went out in front and jumped beautifully, good win, classic Cobden ride, I had it a bunch of bets but should have gone all out as I fancied it.
  • Race 3 - Pertemps Handicap Hurdle - Doddiethegreat 25/1
    • Surprise winner really, had it in a few bets but David Jennings always tips it and it usually never wins so that put my off a bit, thought Jeriko Du Reponet was coming through to win it at one point, but Doddiethegreat held on.
  • Race 4 - Ryanair - Fact To File 6/4
    • Il Est Francais and Protektorat disappointing, but good run from Fact To File, one of the most impressive of the festival, and good runs from the class at big odds behind (Heart Wood and Envoi Allen), good place for Rachael Blackmore.
  • Race 5 - Stayers Hurdle - Bob Olinger 8/1
    • Decent race, Teahupoo ran well again considering he only has two runs a year, but class came through again and good 3rd win at the festival for Bob Olinger, cracking day for Rachael Blackmore.
  • Race 6 - Plate Handicap Chase - Jagwar 3/1
    • Ran well, good win, another for JP McManus.
  • Race 7 - Kim Muir Handicap Chase - Daily Present 12/1
    • Good race this one, really close, I was gutted, I had a JP McManus bet on the go, plus I put £10 double on Jagwar and Johnnywho, who was a very close 2nd to Daily Present. I had S O'Keeffe/Paul Noland bet on too, but that went down earlier but won this race and ruined my big double, the buggers. Good festival for S O'Keeffe though.
My big mistake this day was not looking at the other cards, if I'd have looked at Limerick I could have smashed this day. Jordon Gainford was riding for Gordon Elliot at Limerick and won the 1st two races - Kurasso Blue @ 9/2 & Familiar Dreams @ 11/1. Being the top jockey at Limerick and not riding at Cheltenham, Jordon Gainford was an easy/obvious bet, and 9/2 & 11/1 is a big double, PLUS, the Kurasso Blue 9/2 was a RobCor horse, so I would have put that in my RobCor bet with Air of Entitlement 16/1, plus Bob Olinger 8/1, and because I'd have backed RobCor bigger, I would have had singles on the 1st two, and probably a double, so missed two big doubles and a RobCor treble this day, could have/should have been a good day for me, messed up.

  • Race 1 - Triumph Hurdle - Poniros 100/1
    • I had Luluamba, thought he was going to win it, gutted, good run from Poniros though, and if I'd have read his description I'd have seen it was an AMO racing horse on the flat, so I might just have had a punt if I'd have known that, plus W P Mullins was my biggest bet for Friday, Friday is always Mullins day, and if for some reason I'd have put Poniros in my Mullins bet I'd have won a fair amount, especially if Galopin had won later.
  • Race 2 - County Handicao Hurdle - Kargese 3/1
    • Ran well, never looked like losing really, and well backed.
  • Race 3 - Mares Chase - Dinoblue 6/4
    • Ran well again, never looked like losing really, another win for JP McManus.
  • Race 4 - Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle - Jasmin De Vaux 6/1
    • Bigger odds earlier in the day but shorted considerably and ran well, good win, and another Mullins Friday.
  • Race 5 - Gold Cup - Inothewayurthinkin 15/2
    • Good run, finished quite strongly, but Galopin not really at it, would have liked to see him win 3, and cost me a fair bit, but did have a JP McManus bet on the go, needed Its On The Line for good money.
  • Race 6 - Hunters Chase - Wonderwall 28/1
    • I was fuming with this race, I needed Its On The Line for good money, I know he stays and always tries, and he did here, very close, just couldn't quite get to Wonderwall, maybe could have done it with a few more strides. And I was miffed coz Curling had the favourite (Angels Dawn) and I saw that he had Wonderwall as well at big odds but never put it in my doubles bet with the last race, if I had, I'd have got a nice return.
  • Race 7 - Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle - Wodhooh 9/2
    • Only win for Gordon Elliot, ran well, kept his unbeaten run.

I did actually have 4/5 close 2nd's over the festival for good money, so could have done a lot better, it was fine margins for me this year.

Rules set for next year.
