Some of the races don't have prize money and distances listed yet, but I will add them in when they become available (not on SkyBet, Racing Post or Timeform at the moment).

PRESTBURY CUP (UK vs IRELAND)

I think the UK will do better this year, and might just clinch it, I think it will be closer than the last few years - Lulamba, Sir Gino, C. Hill, The New Lion etc., fair few good chances to beat the Irish.

SkyBet currently has the following odds:

Ireland 1/9
UK 10/1

NON RUNNER NO BET SPECIALS (SkyBet)

Galopin Des Champs, Ballyburn and Jonbon all to win any race - 9/2
Ballyburn, Constitution Hill and Fact To File all to win any race - 13/2
Lossiemouth, Gaelic Warrior and Fact To File all to win any race - 9/1
The New Lion, Maughreen and Salvator Mundi all to win any race - 33/1
Lossiemouth, Energumene and El Fabiolo all to win any race - 40/1
Banbridge, East India Dock and The Yellow Clay all to win any race - 50/1
Ballyburn, Energumene and El Fabiolo all to win any race - 66/1
Fact To File, Romeo Coolio and Potters Charm all to win any race - 80/1
Energumene, Maughreen and Romeo Coolio all to win any race - 125/1

10 bets for the festival so far, all NRNB.

Put a few 7/8/9 folds on - just short priced favourites across the festival for the time-being - will keep adding to it over the next couple of weeks, I like to have a few acca's across the whole festival.

I watched another preview show last night (Coral In The Know Ep4), and basically, they reviewed two races and said "We've got no clue which horses are running in this race at the moment", which is something I complain about every year, I just find it ridiculous, the premier event in your sport and two weeks before it starts the fans don't know what what horses are running in each race, that's naff. It's like saying Tyson Fury is fighting next Saturday but we don't have a clue who he's fighting, it just doesn't happen in any other sport and I don't know why they let it happen every year, surely they can do better.

Just in case anybody missed it, Sir Gino is injured...

Sir Gino has a leg injury and is out of the Arkle, Majborough new favourite @ 4/7.
Iroko out of the Ultima, new favourite The Changing Man 6/1.
Kopeck De Mee is the new favourite of the Coral Cup @ 5/1.
Gameofinches won Feb 20th for Mullins and is now the new favourite of the Champion bumper @ 3/1.
Jeriko Du Reponet is the new favourite of the Pertemps @ 4/1 (for some strange reason).
East India Dock shortened and is now the joint favourite of the Triumph with Lulamba @ 15/8.

Irish Winners Continue To Rise

irish trained winners at the cheltenham festival since 1975 chart 24

The graph above looks at the number of Irish trained horses that have won at the Cheltenham Festival since 1975. As you can see before the mid-2000’s the Irish were lucky to bag 5 or more winners at the festival but since then they have gone on to dominate.

In 2021 Irish trained horses won a staggering 82% of races despite only fielding 40% of festival runners. Most of those horses were also bred in Ireland and of the five British winners that year three were bred in Ireland. The Brits saved some grace from 2022 to 2024 bringing that total back down to 18 for the Irish, but still there is no stopping them and Willie Mullins in particular who set a record of 10 wins in 2022.

Jockey Tip

Upcoming young Irish jockey that is being chased by a bunch of trainers to ride their horses in the handicaps at Cheltenham, and I think he'll probably hit one....

Tiernan Power Roche

Doughnuts

I've done about 50 Google searches and trawled through dozens of websites, but I can only seem to find information on wins at Cheltenham - does anyone know where I can find a list of trainers that have NEVER won at the Cheltenham festival?

I'm thinking of putting a few bets on (including an acca) with trainers that have never won at Cheltenham before, hoping a few get their 1st win - I'm pretty sure Lucy Wadham has never had a win before, and has Jax Junior and Terresita with decent chances.

Need to find a few more to add in.

What Are The Best Willie Mullins Cheltenham Festival Races?

  • Weatherbys Champion Bumper (13 wins)
    • Gameofinches 3/1
  • Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle (10 wins)
    • Lossiemouth 11/8
  • Turners Novices’ Hurdle (7 wins)
    • Final Demand 11/8
  • Supreme Novices Hurdle (7 wins)
    • Kopek Des Bordes 4/5
  • County Hurdle (7 wins)
    • Kopeck De Mee 5/1
  • Arkle Novices’ Chase (6 wins)
    • Majborough 4/7
  • Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (6 wins)
    • Ballyburn 6/4
W P Mullins most won races - 7 races/horses - £1 E/W sevenfold = £966.04
£1 wins on the trebles = £796.45 (would cost £35.00)
(of course, if all win - I think there's a good chance of him hitting 4 or 5 of these)

This just highlights to me why the festival has gone stale , too many uncompetitive races with horses avoiding each other, win or not none of them in the least bit inspiring, surely nobody it fighting to get on any of these prices.
