Today's bets

I have found two races of interest today. Both races are at Epsom.

The 4.00 looks particularly competitive. Of the field any one of three in Modern
Times, Sir Garfield and Ruby's Profit are capable of taking this prize.
In a recent race at Epsom, Sir Garfield beat a massively improving 3 year
old who is now officially rated 95. The Racing Post Rater is not particularly enamoured
with Sir Garfield though only offering an achieved rating of 77 which is two less than
its Official Rating.

Ruby's Profit has the best rating achieved from the Racing Post assessor at 85.
The Official Rater is very much aware though of the capabilities of this horse since
it comes in at a rating of 87 which is likely to stymie its efforts of taking this prize.

The only one of the three contenders that has a Racing Post Rating achieved that is in excess of
its OR is Modern Times. The RPR here is 77 against an OR of 73. For this reason I would make
Modern Times the selection. The problem with Modern Times could be one of Class. It is the
only one of the contenders to show its best form in a Class 5. All other contenders are regular
Class 4 participants.

The 5.58 race looks to boil down to two very evenly matched participants in Ice Cube and
Eyes Front. Really there is nothing whatsoever to split these two. By the most marginal of decisions
I have made Ice Cube the selection since it won its race by a marginally greater distance than did
Eyes Front when winning its own race.

One winner in Coppull yesterday allied with a placer made it a good Saturday for me.
Today turns to a decent meeting at Pontefract.

4.45 Sing the Blues @ 17/2

Based upon the evidence of a big improvement between 2nd LTO and LTO Racing Post
ratings from 86 to 96 allied with an increase in the OR's from 80 to 85 Improvement
shown by Sing the Blues may have far from finished. Any more improvement in today's
performance should see Sing the Blues taking this prize. Keeping Kierien Fallon in the
saddle may make the difference between success and a near miss.
One other mini-outsider who is capable of taking this prize is Miss Nightcap. The price of
American Queen is too short given the limited quality of Racing Post ratings achieved.
Royal Fixation is simply held by Sing the Blues whilst Dash of Azure has work to do to trouble
the principals..

5.15 Shoof Baeed @ 17/2

It is certainly the case that at this time of year that an improving 3 year old presented
with an age allowance can show sufficient improvement to take charge of its elders.
Such a horse is Shoof Baeed. From an improving Racing Post ratings perspective Shoof
has 4 points in hand of High Degree, and a massive 11 points in front of Jez Bomb.
