Snooker

Don’t know Delboy99 Delboy99 bit he’s just beat Selby who is arguably one the form players, so can’t be that bad.
Think we’ve been saying it for a while that Bingyu is the next big star, he just thrashed Trump. His only problem is when things get close and pressurised , if he can ever sort that out, I think he might end up better than all of them.
Top display from Bingyu, couldn't miss with his pots from anywhere on the table. Never seen Trump so angry for a long time, swinging his cue at his own misses on tough pots. Great semi final in store against Ronnie tomorrow. Selby looked good to 2-0 but that fired Ronnie up and Selby had few responses. He has been a little below his best this week but would still be good enough against most bar the top 6 but Ronnie showing close to his best of old.

Three Chinese players and Ronnie make the semis over 11 frames tomorrow.

Xiao Guodong has won the last 2 Wuhan Opens and shows his love for the event but will need to be in peak form to compete with the now guaranteed World Number 1, on official ratings, Zhao Xintong. He should hold the number 1 position until after the World Championship at least now as no points to come off until then. Un the other semi I nearly have the perfect 50/50 match, should be worth getting up for at 7am tomorrow!

My ratings ranking and the official for the remaining players:

Finals day over 19 frames between the World number 1 and number 32. Both of course artificially low on world rankings as only just over 1 seson rankings for both due to not being on the full tour 2 seasons ago. Zhao has won all 6 of his previous ranking finals and Chang lost the Scottish Open last season when he was like a rabbit stuck in the headlights.

Two of the 3 top Chinese players now set to be the future of the game. Chang has been at his very best this week and Zhao never looked troubled, especially after the intervals in his games. No doubt there will be more Chinese youngsters who progress or kick on from their current levels, but these 2 and Wu Yize look likely to dominate the bear future. With Xiao Guodong and Zhang Anda moving up a gear in the last 3 seasons or so and Si Jiahui showing signs of making it, the Chiinese domiantion of snooker is ever increasing.

Should be a great final.

Chang Bingyu lives up to his billing on here and wins his maiden title. He got a little nervy nut his clearance in the final frame was out of this world, with just one red left and the balls on cushions his potting skills were as good as ever. Up to 21 on current Official World rankings and goes 2nd China man on mine after, Xintong and leapfrogging Wu Yize. This his interview from WST.

"I’d been very tense throughout the match, so I wanted to let myself go a little bit. In the last frame I just thought I had to go for the double on the blue. Fortunately it went in, and I was able to clear up," said an elated Chang.

"Last year I was really disappointed to lose the final in Scotland. After losing that final, I wanted the title so badly. From then on, I kept telling myself every day that if I reached another final, I had to take the opportunity.

"Before the match, I honestly didn’t think I could beat him. He is the new world number one after all, so I just wanted to learn from him. I’ve watched a lot of his matches over the past few years and learned a great deal from him. So I went into the final with the same attitude of learning.

"I’m really grateful to my parents. They’ve really sacrificed a lot for me. When I was very young, my dad sold our house and quit his job so that he could accompany me to practise in Guangdong. He also accompanied me when I went to England. Over the last couple of years my mum has been with me every day, looking after my day-to-day life. I’m really thankful to them."

Zhao said: "Although I’m a little disappointed with the result today, I think for me personally it’s just one match. I can’t be in finals forever or win every time. Of course, I didn’t play particularly well today, so I think it was quite normal that Chang was able to win the match. His game, and that of many of the younger Chinese players, has already reached a very high level."

Monday play returns to the UK with the British Open completing the first round in Cheltenham. The 128 players all enterd at this round and these are the held over games for the top 16 players and their opponents. It is a random draw, except seems not so random as all top 16 are kept apart in this round. Haven't looked into it but probably they are seeded.

Whether they all turn up after the trip from China is unknown at the moment. Allen and O'Sullivan have withdrawn so far.
