I think I need to find something more and not follow the top rated blindly but look at either the top 3 or 5 depending on size of the field. I keep coming back to speed but not sure as how to use it. I don't want to make or keep speed figures, so this leaves me Top Speed, Gerry was helpful with his advice being a simple person can anybody show me a way to use Top Speed. By the way I don't subscribe to the Racing Post I only use the free version

I have had a go at combing TS with the ratings this is different to how I was diong it before and then stopped using TS will see if this way helps to improve the ratings

This is from a system I paid for it is a handicap system I have put it into an excel worksheet and it lets you know if you have a valid bet within the race, today i have been through all the Carlisle H'Caps and the last race came up with a valid bet.

Going through some of my old racing books and one I came across was a points scoring method called the Larkspur I did change the way the handicap points wad done every over points scoring is as according to the book, although I bought this book back in 2014 Ithink I had never relly took too much notice of it until now I thought I might just try it very simple points scoring method. If any one else has tried this or somehow refined it let me know what you think. My only change is I use the weights the horses are carring rating all the horses and not just the top weigts as the book suggests.

Still going I have been obsessed lately withe the Clive Holt formula from the 80s brought two of his books of Ebay. Antway I have managed to put something together which is based around his formula and it has already gave me some nice winners. I will upload it for all to see and maybe you can share of ways to improve it. It is a very simple system but myself also being simple still had to get help with the formulas to put it together, anyway have a look and let me know what you think. I call it the Holt as its based around Clive Holt.

The above triggered two long ago memories Re courses. The first time i saw courses graded from a punting aspect was > 50yrs ago in the Horse Sense book by John Major when he used them as a means and part of rating Class and at the time this thinking worked very well indeed.
The second is more recent when an on line acquaintance who was part of a small successful betting syndicate related that they had been interacting with a super intelligent bloke who had no previous knowledge of horse race betting and they asked him to investigate the subject and for any conclusions or finds. A sort of human AI. ?
Anyway one aspect i found interesting was his thoughts that the official handicappers and punters still tended to underestimate form produced on the Northern Courses in comparison to the same on the Southern Tracks. This is not something you can generalize about but i have found it is well worth keeping in mind.
Re my thoughts about courses : If like myself you use ratings as part of your process then where the rating was obtained can prove the real straightener Re its true worth and i have found that the very best examples often come when my top rate obtained its rating in the same or higher class over the same CD.
