RACECOURSES

DSLR bands, eg like those shown in markfinn markfinn 's post, can be a major positive or negative for some trainers
Good point. I tend to dislike fast returns or long absences but i seek evidence to support either from the individual horses as opposed to there trainers and while this works ok on balance i can see the worth of your comment.

the stats suggest that some definitely specialise in both those scenarios

E.g. From a report I ran in March to look at various DSLR profiles of trainers from races 2011 onwards

What i have found out in such a short time doing my noting of speed horses is i have already noticed a couple i had down who where due to run but then for what ever reason the trainer decided against it.
Now is this because it has run well since declared i don't think so more like the time of the race the horse needs more time to recover.
I have also noticed the different styles of tracks they enter them after that good run the complete opposite of what it run well in.
Again you would wonder why sometime it might have had good form on that track before sometimes not, But it wasn't the track it done its best form on in my eyes so to me it shows that some time trainers run there horses i would not say for the sake of it with better animals but could be owners want to see it run even if gets beat.
So i think track makes a big difference when your looking at the crucial form of horse.
And one thing thats possible is noting where they run it before that good run as there could be possible clue there.
