Done a search comicsports, this particular vanderwheely method revolved around hurdle races using the most tipped horse from the old Sporting Chronicle.
Dealing only with flat racing I am not sure it would have been much use to yourself in that case.

Look this method takes you towards the market really.
It's unavoidable.
I know from even before.
I made it because a) the absence of other tools b) I had to submit something to my readers from early in the morning.
The first day, some ten years ago, my then boss asked me to report the exact hours the UK sites are filled in so we start work as soon as we can.

But nevertheless it is doing something, not useless at all.
To oppose some market prinicpals and go for something better -pricewise- is indeed the think we look for.
But how ?
Random situations do occur of course. I remember one time at the racecourse there was a below evens jolly but the trainer and the handler did not seem happy at all. Some nasty words used too ! So I say "ok, forget those". But those are random situations.

Another thing is the quality of the sources.
In a compilation some are good, e.g. the post.
Some others may be poor because either they 're not good enough or they are copying.
So it pays to put the top brands together really.
But I know of only those seven with full daily card service.
If I move to France there are hundreds upon hundreds so one has to search deep to see who are worth it.
But I 'm not so keen on France. I like their race courses very much but for betting purposes not really.

Some further explanations from the documentation:

The tipster synthesis software tool works with internet tips.
This version is for the races of UK and Ireland.

The buttons "racingpost, "sportinglife" etc open the various pages
wherein you have to look for the race cards.
Type the race time, how many run and the non-runners.
Then type in the grid provided the tips of the pages.
The suggestions should be typed in the form 1-2-3-4-5- ... ,so the
software understands, otherwise you get an error message.

Pay attention that in the UK web pages the suggested horses are writen
in full (the names, not the numbers). The horse in capital letters is the one
given first chance and the 2nd-3d etc chances that follow are in small letters.

When you are finished use the prediction buttons "win sort","place
sort", "forecast sort" etc to compute the win probabilities.
The play combinations are expressed in probability percentages and
sorted from high to low.
A "difficulty index" is also displayed, which is an inverse probability.
If the race was repeated infinite times, the mean probability with
which the winning horse was seen is the inverse of the index. So when the
index is low it means easy, when the index is high it means hard.

You may also enter the result of the race in up to four horses, to
keep records.
The types of play the software predicts are:

- Win
- Place 2, when there are 2 horses for the place money
- Place 3, when there are 3 horses for the place money
- Place 4, when there are 4 horses for the place money
- Forecast (1st-2nd in order)
- Quinella (1st-2nd irrespective of order)
- Tricast (1st-2nd-3d in order)
- Trio (1st-2nd-3d irrespective of order)
- Swinger (1st-2nd, or 1st-3d, or 2nd-3d irrespective of order)
- Pick-6 and others similar (see below)

The principle of the method is this:

"the sum of the tipsters produces a super-tipster who is better
than the best of the company"

About the calibration of the program
-----------------------------------------------
To compute probabilities based on tips, the tips sources had to be
calibrated first. This is done in two ways:
First for each tipster individually his win percentages were measured
from large samples, that is percentage of first chance win, second chance win,
third chance win and so on.
So every tipster has his probability distribution function (pdf).
In continuation, the pdf's of the various tipsters had to be added
to produce a resultant pdf.
The method to do this addition is the "logarithmic opinion pool".

Oooops look below at that from the post for the 3.15.
It's evident he fancies Van Huysen and then Coillte Cailin.

I fancy Coillte Cailin, I know this horse. If she gets a good pace to aim at he's going to win.
Coillte Cailin comes top in my sheet but look at the mistake.
I made it 5th choice in my racing post entry whereas she is 2nd choice.

It shows that one has to read carefully the verdicts to be absolutely sure.
Taking into account the two late scratches (the 1 and the 6) Coillte Cailin's chances stand now at 35%.

The ex-Italian Kyllachy Gala looks high in the weights, while Eddystone Rock has to prove the AW suits him as well as turf and last year´s winner Winterlude would not want this to be tactical. This may be dominated by Coillte Cailin and VAN HUYSEN, who fought out the finish over C&D last time, and the latter may be able to turn the tables on 2lb better terms today.
