EPSOM DERBY ?

So getting back to tomorrow's dante 3.10 york.

Had another look at both of HIGH DEFINITIONS victories and you can't help but feel 12 furlongs is what he will need this year, came from a fair way back on debut to win going away and then repeated the feat over same c/d group2 curragh.
I suppose you could knock the form and question his suitability to epsom but there's no doubt he has a great deal of talent.
Just over 10f tomorrow with a bit of juice in the ground you can see york's long straight being a big help to him and a similar performance and win tomorrow could easily see him back as fav, in fact i would say certain fav.

Opposition ?
GEAR UP.....I'm wary about the form of his french win and to be honest i can't see him winning this, trouble is i can never get johnston right.

HURRICANE LANE....Again he is a nice enough colt out of Frankel but the form doesn't strike me has being a dante horse.

MEGALLAN....Same again i'm afraid, doesn't look up to it for me.

ROYAL CHAMPION....Showed plenty of promise on his sole run at two but brushed aside by HIGHLAND AVENUE in the fielden, if he win or even go close then it will be a boost for one or two other derby runners but doubt it.

FLYING VISIT ....Had already run 11 times before he chased home BOLSHOI BALLET when they met in april, another horse where the form look way below what's needed, time before he finished well down the field in a 6f nursery , BB fans will hope he runs well.

UNCLE BRYN... I liked him both times he won at two but what happened last time out behind WIRKO at epsom, frankie mentioned him the other day but you need to excuse that run i think.

PYTHAGORAS... Back in 4th behind UNCLE BRYN, so hard to see why he might do well here.

BELLOCHIO & ROMAN EMPIRE Not good enough.

Conclusion...... While there are a few question marks about HIGH DEFINITION there was something appealing about the manner of his two wins and i hope he comes through this with flying colours and expect he will given i seemed to have trashed the opposition.

Good post

good post - in no position to add anything to these types of races - good luck

Ditto,

good post, T tacker .

I had taken a look through earlier and decided I'd have no bet, 'cos I didn't get a good feeling about any.
Later, I chance a couple of quid EW on an outsider.

It will be interesting to see what happens. York is flat as a pancake, unlike Epsom.
That said, often saw Chester (flat, tight , track) runners do well on Derby day.

No serious bet for me today. Powder kept dry.

:) I often wonder whether we are supposed to post on here or not, but, at the risk of talking to myself and aftertiming, I'll post
my antepost bets to date:

Bolshoi Ballet
Sandhurst
Maximal.

Not sure any of these will be my bet on the day.

I added three more to the list of small antepost bets yesterday (16/5/21).
Two of these are almost certainly no-hopers - as far as I can see- with odds of 1000 on btfr.
But, who knows what Aidan will do, or , will he even win it?

Arturo Toscanini
The Mediterranean
Sir William Bruce.

Names remind me of school; I didn't go there much. First day, I got told off for talking; second day, I got a belt for not answering. Third day, I decided not to go again.
Different today; now they cane the teacher for not listening. he loves it too. :D

All the best!

Hmmm.
Apparently Aidan hath spoken; he sayeth that he doesn't make his mind up entirely till ten days before the Off. :)

Meanwhile, several of my small antepost bets have drifted from fairly big starting points.

Three are scratched already:
Maximal
Arturo Toscanini
Sir William Bruce.
All out, I think.

I've added Jim Bolger's and High Definition.

High Definition has drifted a bit.

I, for one, still haven't got a clue what's going on.
Any of my bets that have shortened are still way over 100/1. :D

Supplemented runners could be a worry; not sure about any dead-line.
Several things don't look right to me.

Also, I hear the "powers that be" have fenced off the Hill and got some sort of injunction or by-law to prohibit folk going on public land.
Can't really see how it's classed as more dangerous than tesco, where folks have been crowding in since Day One, or, as risky as all these flights that keep landing with scores of passengers.

I remember all the foot-and-mouth precautions that race-goers had to take, even though horse don't get that particular disease ( no cloven feet).
They made these old gals with high heels go through the spongy disinfectant bath , just to get into places like Wolverhampton.
A good laugh listening to their protests, but shouldn't think it did much good. 🙂

Well, things haven't developed along ways I like, and unless I get some positive signs soon, I regret to say that I feel the short-priced favourite is the likely winner.
Despite it not fitting my winner's "template".:(

Some subtle stable changes have dashed my early hopes: five of my long-priced bets are no longer running, and another has now got an entry in a race on thursday, so that looks doubtful.

Unhappy about it all, I have now added a few more bets:

John Leeper
Third Realm
Youth Spirit.

I retain a glimmer of hope that there may be some significant late changes; at present, I'm floundering. :)

And one I added to my disastrous long list ,finally, before the AP was suspended, is Southern Winds, Joseph O'Brien.
This year's antepost attempt for the Derby has not been successful at all, though stakes were small.

I have to stick with my conclusion that the favourite wins. :(

interesting that AP relies soley on BB i think , altho at the price and what he's done on the course thus far i wouldnt wanna be taking such a short price (altho he'll probably sluice in) .. at the prices at the mo i quite like Mohaafeth (7/1) and the unbeaten Appleby runner Hurricane Lane (9/1) , plus at 14s with 365 / WH / Coral & Victor i think R Varians' Third Realm could be worth an ew to nothing , trainer in decent form , Atzeni up and i rate him in the big races and i think he could outrun his odds if im honest

Good luck S Sandhog

I proposed Mc Sw a few weeks ago when he was trounced by BB at that time it was unclear how many O’Brien would run - should the fact that he relies on one scare the rest into submission - at the price BB looks not backable for average punter - MS trainer remains bullish ( have to say I like his modest but firm general attitude and open opinions) so not going to look further and will watch with interest - good luck to all contestants

I have Bolshoi Ballet win on lots of different HRB systems, I also have Third Realm & Hurricane Lane as lays on Varian & Frankel stats in group 1 races, none of this is very original I'm afraid

Bolshoi Ballet was impressive last time, but I think Mac Swiney’s price is too big for a winner of two Group 1s. If I remember correctly, his sire New Approach was a similar price on the day for 2008 Derby before going off at 5/1, that after he had been favourite in the ante post markets. The problem with Mac Swiney is his winning form has come on soft/heavy, if it had kept raining like yesterday then I would have definitely favoured him but sun is out today.

Bolshoi Ballet hasn’t done much wrong, and he wouldn’t be lacking for stamina, his brother placed in St Leger, and has same nicks as St Leger winner Capri.

BB more likely winner, but just feel price difference between the two of them a bit too big at the moment.

One Ruler didn’t run too badly in the 2000 Guineas (6th), and I think he could improve a bit, but doubt it will enough to win this.

I am on the same lines as markfinn markfinn - BB must be a real shore thing in O'brains mind as usually he has most of the field covered!

But at the price im happy to watch :)

To add Ryan Moors puts me off alittle as he is not doing that well on Favs so far this year

Happy but surprised that BB is Obriens only runner - with breeding in mind - surely a 2nd or 3rd place is a great endorsement.
