C'mon Leeds!

That was a game that we should have won. I do think that we're a credible force in the Premiership. We're nowhere near good enough for a top 6 place, but we're better than many of the teams in the league. We are improving but the massive gap between us and the big spenders will ensure that we can only achieve 'respectability' at the moment. If I'm honest, this season's Premier League is not what I thought it would be. There are too many uncompetitive contests and the big six have got it sewn up, unfortunately.
I think we are at the same level as last year, just a few new faces involved. Are we slightly better this season to avoid getting into another relegation scrap? Probably, but that's helped again because of the amount of teams out of form. As long as we kick lamposts' team into touch when we meet, I will be happy - he hates us!

League context

Leeds Utd have the stronger league position: 8th with 10 points and a weight of 1.03, compared with Sunderland in 20th with 4 points and a weight of 0.50. Leeds’ class weighting is just over twice Sunderland’s.

Recent form and ratings

Sunderland earned one result point across the five matches—a draw at Brentford—and scored 4 goals while conceding 12. Their weighted Match Performance Level (MPL) is 1.03; Goal Performance Rating (GPR) is −3.20; Power Rating is −2.17.

Leeds earned 6 result points: one win and three draws. They scored 7 and conceded 5. Their MPL is 5.63, GPR is +0.80, and Power Rating is 6.43.

Leeds have the stronger recent momentum by results and rating. The venue split also favors Leeds, though it’s based on very few matches: Sunderland lost both listed home games, while Leeds drew once and lost once in their two listed away games. Leeds’ overall five-match form includes three home matches, so it shouldn’t be treated as a direct measure of their away strength.

Verdict

On the supplied table and five-match data, Leeds hold a clear analytical advantage: higher league standing, better recent results, and a substantially higher Power Rating. Sunderland’s home record in this small sample is a concern. The goal evidence is mixed—Sunderland’s matches have been higher-scoring overall, while Leeds have conceded fewer—so the goal-market prices and scorelines are less decisive than the team-strength comparison.

Bottom Line

Leeds Utd hold the stronger statistical profile through a superior league weighting, MPL score, GPR score and overall Power Rating. Bournemouth's recent form is more volatile but includes arguably the standout result of either side's sample, the 3-0 win away at Manchester United.
The model finds Leeds to be the stronger side on underlying numbers, but the advantage is relatively small and is partially offset by Bournemouth's home venue. As a result, the data points towards a closely contested match rather than a clear mismatch.
Model Verdict: Leeds Utd deserve marginal favouritism based on recent weighted performance, with 1-1 Draw, 1-0 Bournemouth and 0-1 Leeds Utd emerging as the most data-consistent scorelines.

I told the wife - it’s going to be a bad weekend - didn’t fancy Brad against Huddersfield and doubted that Leeds would win this one , good side Bournemouth

A terrible performance and much like recent games. The new style of play, clearly isn't working.

Ampadu, seems to get a yellow in every match and came close to a red yesterday from his protesting. He could do with a discipline check before it bites him on the ass. Box to box play doesn't suit him and is much better keeping further back.

Trafford's error has been on the cards for a while now, as he tends to piss about when the ball's at his feet.

If the next two games, against teams playing better than we are, do not yield any points then some serious questions need to be asked.

Farke is the problem. We have some decent players, but the sheer negativity of his style promotes the boring football that we endure. His team selection and use of substitutes is baffling. I’m convinced that his only ambition is survival. That’s just not good enough for Leeds hardcore fans.

Yes , the club should have let him go at the end of last season and secured a 'next level' manager. Just shows their level of ambition really.

We do have good players, but they are wasted on Farke ball tactics. If we lose to Coventry then it's, 'put the stadium expansion on hold, lads'

Read both but I can’t add a like - very few more rabid about Leeds than myself - what do we want ? - well that’s an easy question to answer - we want it all - but let’s get real here - what base are we coming of - success is built not gifted - Farke - is he the best for Leeds ? Possibly not but who would realistically replace him - please don’t give me a list of Euro maybes or How - give me some one who has done it the hardway , some one who has thrived without a huge financial bucket to dip into - we have been there and never want to look back into that abyss again - what we are, is a middle to large to club , a one team city and that’s not always the good thing that people suppose , it means that we are always going to be well supported , but not necessarily to the moon and back, we have to accept that there are limitations ( even the best team in Europe Don Revies , often fell short, the opposition is always very close ) we are premier club and Europe would be great but nothing is a given , do we have the squad to play in Europe , good players exceed managers desires and instructions and if we were that good we would be playing better and not conceding points as we are . I would be consolidating (which they are ) and looking to the youth policy to fuel the future. Comeonleeds

Farke was backed financially, as he requested. Got some decent players tbh, Wilson on a free even. It's not player quality or lack of finances that is the problem, you could give Farke the Man City job and he would still end up dragging them to the bottom, long before the PL get to work on 'em. He just has limited, tactical nouse and very much a stick in the mud for changing anything. Remind you of anyone, not so long ago?!

You know whose name I would throw into the pot for a replacement, so not much point in mentioning for the nth time again. There's a rumour that he will end up, t'other side of the pennines before long.

Look, Farke’s done a solid job steadying the ship and bringing in some genuinely top-drawer talent, but watching his tactics can feel like watching paint dry in slow motion.

Setting up purely to "not get beaten" might keep the stats men happy, but it makes for a proper turgid afternoon out. Continuously sticking with Aaronson while opposition managers read us like an open book isn't helping either.

Our away fans trek across the country every week and deserve a bit of thrill, not a snooze-fest! Time to trade the dull safety blanket for a manager with some actual enterprise.

Wages are a better guide to eventual finishing position.
The wage bill is a decent guide so far, but it is far from perfect. Comparing each club's wage rank with its current position gives a rank correlation of about 0.5. That's a moderate link after nine games, and it usually tightens as the season goes on.

The +/− column is wage rank minus league position, so a plus means the club is doing better than its wage bill suggests.

Questions...Questions...Questions !!!!
Looking at that first hand i was seriously doubting those figures but after a little "reminding" realize their very real.
Even though i have a good handle of most of the top leagues in Europe it's amazing how quickly you forget how much certain players go for in a transfer window.
Questions like "Has Maresca really spent that much in his first transfer window with Man Cheaty FC ??"
My mind cut to a shot of Noel Gallagher in the crowd nodding his head and singing "Remember Elliot "One good game in the World Cup" Anderson & Enzo "pants up" Fernandez together cost around 280m Euros" to the tune of Champagne Supernova.
Also add in that Man City had to pay £17m to Chelsea for securing the services of Maresca to enable this spending spree.
Questions like how the fck has Newcastle's Jaissle managed to spunk £272.8m on a vertical footballing ethos and taken them into a part of the table that can be a nightmare to get out from??
Or "No way have Tottenham spent that much !" only to be reminded that Tonali and the boy Fernandes from West Ham combined is around £185m. Your boy Van Hecke pushes that to around £240m. Have they really turned the corner???

Given the average quality shown in todays Premier League (i see some excellent "side passing" every week, but have found out that "dribbling" is now a cardinal sin) how many of these "working class heroes" playing today are actually truly "World Class" or could be compared to say your Keegan's, Best, Charltons, Dalgleish's etc etc of yesteryear. ??
And don't say their definitely "fitter" ffs. These days you can find out on Instagram what Jude Bellingham had for his dinner and it's never "pie & mash" ...yep these days young Jude will most likely be sitting in his Calvin Klein boxers eating a Vialone Nano Mushroom and Black Truffle Risotto with his dear friend "the Kardashian OGNo1"

Also whatever happened to "cult" footballers ?? Are they still a thing ?
Every team had at least one and they spanned decades - Big Derek Doogan at Wolves, Rodney Marsh at Fulham, "SuperMac" up at Newcastle when he wasn't on "Superstars" on the BBC. "Terry" Curran at Sheffield Wednesday or Mad Di Canio. Leeds boys on here will remember Wee "Batty" Boy himself or even Tony "The Volley" Yeboah. Spurs fans had Wee Ossie and Ricky Villa. Liverpool fans will remember David "supersub" Fairclough. Could mention ton's more.
Where are these kind of characters today ???
Years ago the number of these types were nearly as much as the number of times Ally McCoist says "absolutely" in 90 minutes of commentary.
Even Partick Thistle had one ...the mercurial Chic Charnley who would down at least 4 pints, 4 pies and 2 sausage rolls before every match and then go out and spray the ball about like a young Glen Hoddle minus the karmic beliefs and the mullet. "Chico" even had time for a sneaky Lambert & Butler Original Silver in the bogs at half time.
Maybe their just hiding in "transition" or just waiting for a "turnover" or maybe "pinning" as a "false 9" off of a "low block" ....who knows.

Cult players - you raise a good question where will they come from - currently ( it has to change - how can Burnley be 150 million in the red ) unless you can hold down massive wages you are not allowed to play and the Cult footballers are not the type that profile - the Frank Worthington - Vinnie Jones - etc types just will not get a start in the big time - Football is heading for a disaster soon, once the TV (if) obsessed audience ever decides to switch of that could it.
However I have to say last years drop zone from around Feb was great to watch and investigate was certainly better than watching the the top.

I reckon this could be a much closer game than Tottenham's recent form suggests. Spurs have plenty of quality and are playing with confidence, but they're not particularly convincing away from home. Leeds have been good at Elland Road and are difficult to beat there. I think they'll make life awkward for Spurs, although Tottenham will always carry a threat going forward. I'm going to sit on the fence and go for a 1-1 draw. Should be a decent game, but another two points dropped because of Farke's negativity.

Spurs form, over the last 2 years, has been much better away than at home. Confidence should be good but although we have been creating many chances we have not taken enough of them and look a bit short up front.

There’s nobody in either team today like the man in your avatar, nor like the man whose shirt he’s clutching. Memories of two great players from a time when the game was played with commitment and desire. What great players we were privileged to see in a game that no longer exists.

The glory days are gone , I’m amazed it is still popular, these players don’t represent the fans anymore they don’t care about them at all, the don’t care about their clubs, if players from my team Man Utd turned up on my front lawn having a kick about I would draw the curtains and put the sprinklers on, anything to get rid of them shysters. Can only imagine what proper players like Eric Cantona , Matt Le Tissier , Kenny Dalgleish and Dennis Irwin would be worth now compared to some of these pathetic clowns they are paying £300,000 a week nowadays.
