Do you have a view on whether G.R. Lincolnshire was actually Gordon Hall or not? Chesham Chesham posted his/her letter. Does the analysis of the races mentioned in the letter conform to your general theory of VDW selections with regard to class, form and consistency?
 
Leodis Leodis a few snuck in that shouldn’t have done towards the end , ended up 66% strike rate and 29% R.O.I

If I remember correctly, you were focusing on improving RPR's with the selections. How strictly did you adhere to Lee's approach, if at all?

3 top on form (My ratings) Brocklesby Bill, Hickory, God Of War.

Hickory and God Of War are going up a fair bit in weight and while not insurmountable it is a negative.
Brocklesby Bill is coming down in weight as you would expect of a horse going up well in class but he is ridden by a 7lb claimer
and being a 3yo is probably on an upward curve form wise. At 9/1 on Betfair at the moment may be worth a bet win and place.

I wasn’t really following Lee’s approach, I was going with the thinking “Some stick out like a sore thumb”

I thought if they stick out like a sore thumb it will stick out to anyone including ratings compilers so the starting point was ratings clear. Much like the spells it all out horses.

Then I went through the VDW form factors etc to confirm the ratings.

He was almost certainly one and the same , he had strong family connections with Lincolnshire Mother was from there. Also used the same GR in front of the latter post and G Hall from records was GR Hall. I think the motive was to resurrect an interest in VDW again.

Wildwood Flower's Peak Form: Wildwood Flower was a three-year-old filly who was noted to have "done nothing but progress all season." She entered this race showing further improvement following a very strong showing in the Vodac Stewards' Cup three weeks earlier. In that highly competitive Stewards' Cup, she fared best of all the three-year-olds and best of the ten horses drawn on the stand side, staying on strongly. Her earlier summer victories also highlighted her as a game filly with plenty of pace who was steadily creeping up the weights.


Samwar's Campaign: Samwar was also progressing well overall for his trainer. However, the combination of his 7 lb weight rise and his difficult, weaving trip from the rear was simply too steep a hurdle to overcome against a rapidly improving filly who received a flawless run on the rail.

I think if Samwar had of won he would have named that one as on of his bets

The sensible play if one had looked the race prior, would have been a Dutch bet
 
I think ( Long time ago ) Matt Kent contacted me by phone regarding him wanting my racing post Database so he could run some

neural networks etc, i told him that they hadnt produced much for me, never did get round to him having a copy of the DB

I suppose given VDW did whole pieces on making a book and even said that's what he did in the KG Chase the year Desert Orchid first won and one of the Old Newton Cup bets, perhaps a lot of his bigger priced winners were books?

There's just a huge variance in what he said sometimes and what he claims he did. As just one example he said the idea of endless big priced winners was fantasy land and also that there would only be the odd big fish now and then, but then claimed to have found not just one big priced winner in a day but two and then another two the very next day, just by sending out for a daily sports paper and having a look to see what was on offer.

The GR Lincs. selections came up on the forum 2 to 3 years ago, I think in the context of whether they could be of a piece with the six selections VDW gave at around the same time in a contribution to a booklet by Jock Bingham (Travado, Rivage Bleu etc).

I'll dig out my notes on the GR Lincs examples and see whether they conform to the rather tighter sense I have of VDW's main approach (that he used with the 1978-89 selections) than I had 2 to 3 years ago. If they don't, it doesn't mean GR Lincs was not another pseudonym Gordon Hall used, because they might be from the same approach as the Travado six, which I've not been able to work out.

I'll post again when I've done so.
