York 13:30 — Professional Race Report
2026-07-25 | York | 5f | Class 4 | Good to Firm | 17 runners
Race context
This is a large-field sprint over York’s straight 5f. The race contains pace across several parts of the course, and the early lead is unlikely to be obtained without some pressure. The most suitable profile is therefore a runner capable of securing a useful early position without becoming involved in an unsustainable pace battle.
The historical evidence strongly favours runners operating in the first half of the field, particularly those in the front quarter. However, the draw evidence is less conclusive, so draw should be used as a supporting factor rather than as the primary selection method.
Historical draw assessment
Recent results produce a modest numerical advantage for the high-draw section, stalls 13–17, while the longer-term evidence leans more towards the lower stalls. The recent best-to-worst draw-zone difference is only 0.95 lengths and the assessed confidence is low.
| Draw section | Stalls | Assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Low | 1–4 | Small caution |
| Low-middle | 5–8 | Small caution |
| Middle-high | 9–12 | Usable or neutral |
| High | 13–17 | Recent best zone, but only a tie-breaker |
The apparent high-draw advantage should not be treated independently of the pace. A favourable high stall is useful only when the runner remains attached to an effective pace group.
Pace by section
The pace is spread across the course rather than concentrated in one obvious strip.
| Pace section | Principal pace sources |
|---|---|
| Low | Mon Na Slieve, Kodiac Thriller |
| Middle | Managing Director, Cameley Days |
| High | Almaty Star, Tees Aggregates |
Cameley Days, drawn 11, is the most likely overall leader. Almaty Star, Mon Na Slieve and Kodiac Thriller are also expected to race in the first wave.
This distribution means the field may remain reasonably connected rather than breaking into one clearly dominant side. The middle group contains the most likely overall leader, but the high section also has enough pace through Almaty Star and Tees Aggregates to remain competitive.
Dominant race line
There is no sufficiently strong draw-and-pace alignment to nominate one section as a clear dominant line before the race. The most likely interpretation is a spread pace with a slight middle-to-high preference.
The middle-to-high side contains:
- Cameley Days as the probable leader from stall 11.
- Almaty Star as a high-drawn front-quarter runner.
- Roberto Caro and Tees Aggregates as potential prominent runners.
- Harb and Cayman Tai, who receive some support from the recent high-draw evidence.
The low group has genuine speed through Mon Na Slieve and Kodiac Thriller, but both have finishing-strength concerns. The main tactical risk is that the low-side leaders compete too hard while the more efficiently ridden middle or high runners conserve energy.
Four-way early-position assessment
The large-field York 5f evidence strongly favours the front half.
| Early-position band | Wins/runners | Winner share | Win rate | Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Front quarter | 15/132 | 41.67% | 11.36% | Best single band |
| Prominent quarter | 10/149 | 27.78% | 6.71% | Positive |
| Mid/back quarter | 7/132 | 19.44% | 5.30% | Mixed |
| Rear quarter | 4/152 | 11.11% | 2.63% | Weakest |
The front half has supplied 69.44% of winners in comparable large fields, compared with only 11.11% from the rear quarter. The corresponding win rates are 8.90% and 2.63%.
This is meaningful positional evidence. A rear-quarter runner can still win, but it requires a stronger pace, an unobstructed passage and superior finishing strength.
Today’s projected position map
Front quarter
Cameley Days, Kodiac Thriller, Mon Na Slieve and Almaty Star.
Prominent quarter
Managing Director, Vince L’Amour, Roberto Caro and Tees Aggregates.
Mid/back quarter
Lethal Nymph, Emerald Harmony, Ventura Express and Cayman Tai.
Rear quarter
King’s Call, Bayraat, Sports Coach, Dream Deal and Harb.
The front-quarter runners receive the historical positional advantage, but Cameley Days, Kodiac Thriller and Mon Na Slieve all carry some degree of late-finishing concern. Almaty Star is therefore interesting because he combines a high draw, front-quarter position and a competitive AbilityPlus ranking.
AbilityPlus V7 assessment
The leading ratings form a competitive group rather than identifying a completely dominant runner.
| Rank | Horse | V7 rating | Model win probability | Model price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lethal Nymph | 97.67 | 11.14% | 8.98 |
| 2 | Emerald Harmony | 95.99 | 9.95% | 10.05 |
| 3 | Kodiac Thriller | 94.88 | 9.24% | 10.82 |
| 4 | Almaty Star | 94.42 | 8.96% | 11.16 |
| 5 | Mon Na Slieve | 92.31 | 7.78% | 12.85 |
| 6 | King’s Call | 91.28 | 7.27% | 13.76 |
Only 3.25 rating points separate the first four, so Lethal Nymph should not be treated as a clear standout. Race setup can reasonably change the order within this leading group.
Historical validation gives AbilityPlus Rank 1 a 22.76% strike rate, declining to 16.19% at Rank 2, 13.69% at Rank 3 and 11.14% at Rank 4. The first four therefore remain the strongest initial shortlist, but their individual tactical profiles are important.
Trainer-model assessment
| Trainer rank | Horse | Trainer probability |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Harb | 11.16% |
| 2 | Bayraat | 10.45% |
| 3 | Kodiac Thriller | 10.13% |
| 4 | Vince L’Amour | 10.03% |
| 5 | Cameley Days | 9.63% |
| 6 | Managing Director | 9.47% |
| 7 | Almaty Star | 8.26% |
| 8 | Lethal Nymph | 7.72% |
Harb is the trainer-model leader, but his AbilityPlus rank of 17 creates a major disagreement between the two models. Trainer support alone is insufficient to overcome such a substantial ability deficit.
Kodiac Thriller is the strongest agreement horse, ranked third by both AbilityPlus and the trainer model. However, that agreement is weakened by his finishing-strength rank of 15 and the recent negative trainer-form indicators.
Almaty Star’s trainer rank of seven is not especially strong, but it is adequate enough to support rather than undermine his fourth-place AbilityPlus ranking.
Finishing-strength assessment
The best late-finishing runners are:
- Dream Deal
- Emerald Harmony
- Ventura Express
- Tees Aggregates
- Bayraat
The principal early runners have weaker finishing profiles:
- Cameley Days: late rank 14.
- Kodiac Thriller: late rank 15.
- Mon Na Slieve: late rank 17.
- Almaty Star: late rank 12.
There should be enough pressure for finishing strength to matter, but the evidence does not indicate a guaranteed collapse. Dream Deal, Emerald Harmony and Ventura Express are potential late dangers, although all are projected to race in the second half of the field.
Emerald Harmony has the most convincing ability-and-finish combination, but a projected mid/back position and a market price shorter than the model price reduce the betting appeal.
Principal contenders
Lethal Nymph
Lethal Nymph is the AbilityPlus Rank 1 runner and remains the horse against which the others should initially be measured. He is not expected to contest the lead and may benefit if the early pace horses weaken.
The difficulty is the price. The AbilityPlus model produces odds of 8.98 and the combined forecast is 10.23, compared with a reported market price of 5.90. He therefore appears considerably shorter than the model’s assessment.
Verdict: leading ability contender, but no value at the stated price.
Emerald Harmony
Emerald Harmony is ranked second on AbilityPlus and second for finishing strength. That gives her one of the strongest performance profiles if the early leaders begin to tire.
The concerns are her projected mid/back position, low draw and trainer-model rank of 13. The historical York evidence indicates that runners from this position require the race to develop favourably.
The combined forecast is 12.23 against a market price of 9.00.
Verdict: respected as a late danger, but no bet at the stated price.
Kodiac Thriller
Kodiac Thriller has the strongest direct agreement between the two principal models: AbilityPlus Rank 3 and trainer-model Rank 3. He also maps into the historically favourable front quarter.
However, his finishing-strength rank of 15 is a material concern. The recent trainer indicators are also below expectation and weakening. He may travel prominently for a long way but could become vulnerable late if challenged early.
The combined forecast is 10.42 against a market price of 11.50, only 10.34% above the forecast. In a 17-runner field, that margin is not large enough to compensate fully for the risks.
Verdict: credible contender, but insufficient large-field value at 11.50.
Almaty Star
Almaty Star is AbilityPlus Rank 4 and is separated from the top-rated runner by only 3.25 rating points. He is projected into the front quarter and is drawn 17, inside the recent best-performing draw zone.
This gives him a credible race-winning scenario: he can race close to the high-side pace, secure the historical positional advantage and potentially obtain a cleaner passage than the low-drawn leaders.
The principal negatives are trainer-model Rank 7, weak recent trainer-form evidence and a finishing-strength rank of 12. He must settle and conserve enough energy to finish.
The combined forecast is 11.52 against the reported market price of 29.00. That is a substantial margin and remains well above the provisional 20% safeguard for fields of 16 or more.
Verdict: the strongest practical value candidate, provided a stable price near 29.00 remains available.
Apparent value requiring rejection
Cameley Days — forecast 17.71, market 50.00
The headline value is very large, but Cameley Days is AbilityPlus Rank 14 and finishing-strength Rank 14. He may also face competition for the lead.
Rejected: the price disagreement is not sufficiently supported by ability or finishing strength.
Vince L’Amour — forecast 15.71, market 44.00
Vince L’Amour has Trainer Rank 4 and should race prominently, but AbilityPlus Rank 13 and finishing-strength Rank 16 leave a major performance deficit.
Rejected: trainer support and early position do not adequately compensate for the lower ability and finishing ranks.
Harb — forecast 18.37, market 44.00
Harb is Trainer Rank 1 and has the strongest overall setup score in the report. However, he is AbilityPlus Rank 17 and is projected into the historically disadvantaged rear quarter.
Rejected as a win bet: the trainer and draw positives do not overcome the major AbilityPlus deficit and positional disadvantage.
Cayman Tai and Tees Aggregates
Both receive some high-draw support and show large forecast-to-market differences. However, neither is highly ranked by both principal models. Tees Aggregates has useful finishing strength but carries trainer-form and behavioural concerns.
Rejected from the primary shortlist: supporting positives are not sufficiently complete.
Final verdict
This is a competitive sprint in which the AbilityPlus leaders do not all receive suitable prices. Lethal Nymph is the model horse to beat, while Emerald Harmony is the strongest late-finishing danger. Kodiac Thriller has excellent model-rank agreement and the right historical early position, but his weak finishing profile makes the available margin insufficient.
Almaty Star is the preferred value selection. He is positioned within the leading AbilityPlus group, maps into the historically strongest early-position band and is drawn in the recent best-performing zone. His trainer and finishing evidence prevent him from being a high-confidence selection, but the reported price of 29.00 provides enough compensation to create a genuine value case rather than merely a large mathematical disagreement.
Betting conclusion
Primary value selection: Almaty Star — minimum acceptable price approximately 14.00.
Main dangers: Lethal Nymph, Emerald Harmony and Kodiac Thriller.
No bet at the stated prices: Lethal Nymph 5.90, Emerald Harmony 9.00 and Kodiac Thriller 11.50.
Overall confidence: Moderate on the race interpretation; lower on any single selection because the pace is spread and the draw evidence is low-confidence. The reported market prices should be rechecked before betting, particularly in a 17-runner field where early outsider prices may be unstable.
