Visiting the racecourse?

I've been "gifted" a table for four for (full bollixs) hospitality for any meeting at Southwell (not ladies' day). I'm thinking of booking one of the Oktoberfest Racenight beer festivals, either the Sat 3rd or Sat 10th. My latest visit was for the Country & Western Night back in April, and that was good, even with a basic ticket. I'll be wearing the same JP racing colours if anybody wants to say hello!

Just seen this thread. Likely to head to York for a day at the Ebor meeting in August.

Had a cracking day at the Grand National, was in the Lord Sefton stand. I also got this marvellous and unexpectedly good picture of Heidi Palin after winning the closing bumper on Forthfactor.

Look at the sheer joy on her face.

Booked window seats for the 10th Oktoberfest.

Blackjack Magic £25 E/W 9/1, Badger Ale winner 3.53 Newton Abbot, seems to have great chance, also Time To Bite £25 E/W 9/2 great chance 3.53 Newton Abbot. I'm at Newton Abbot so anybody there say hi, PM me if you want to meet.

Enjoyable thanks pal. Blackjack Magic non runner 3.53 Newton Abbot. Time to Bite £25 E/W 3.53 Newton Abbot then turns into £50 WIN as non runner, win only race. I would never have had £50 WIN. £25 WIN possible. I spoke to lady steward and her bet was Time To Bite so I told her I had already bet him. He is winning again at Newton Abbot soon. Lost Frenati 2.53 also £20 WIN. Asked Luke Harvey for autograph, spoke to Mick Fitzgerald again, asking about a jockey I rode out with, Matthew Crosse. Great time, but would have loved to have seen Time To Bite win.

Well, what a day at Thirsk. Fabulous weather, competitive racing, very big crowd and entirely stress free. As expected, the refreshment prices were a bit grim, reflected in very low turnouts in some of the bars, but I’ve always subscribed to the view that gambling and booze don’t mix, so no problems there for me. Had a couple of nice conversations with Rishi Persad and Luke Harvey and enjoyed eavesdropping on some of the after race comments from the jockeys in the winners enclosure. Didn’t back a winner, but considering that the races, all but one, were competitive handicaps, no surprises there. We were involved in a couple of close finishes and landed an eachway bet on a good priced second. All in all, a great day out and Thirsk was a very welcoming course. No doubt about it, we’ll be back again later in the year.
