Visiting the racecourse?

quiet gambler

I haven't seen a thread for anybody thinking of visiting a racecourse so I put this up.

Other boards I have been a member of have had this, so an idea for users to say if they are visiting a racecourse or a brief of how their visit was.

Put them here.

Used to do the whole meeting staying over in York for three nights - not for me now but hope you enjoy it and find a few winners

I go on course usually a couple of times a year. Been to about 20 courses but haven't been to York since my when my dad used to take me as a kid.

Went to Cheltenham one Sat last Nov with a guy from another forum. We stayed over night, did my race analysis beforehand, started the beers by 11am , keebabs by 2pm.
And kept going til about midnight which included a curry & betting on Wolverhampton evening races in a high street bookie in Cheltenham town centre.

Anyway was a good day. 😎

Soon be time for Ludlow to dust itself down and start racing again.
My local course .
Well worth visiting if you live in this area or including in a Marches autumnal break

Went to Hexham while on holiday (27th Aug). Picturesque course with good viewing (the finish less so as it dips down).

Anyone been to Bangor (on Dee). Probably our nearest NH course bar Haydock.

I'm thinking about visiting my local track, Plumpton, Monday. Anybody else visiting there? If I visit, first time on racecourse in 31 years.

Looks like I'm visiting Plumpton racecourse on Sunday 19th April. I like 3 mile chases most. My selection in 4.02 Plumpton is Sea Invasion E/W. He has took 2 races at Plumpton so took to tight course. I think he is finishing thereabouts, in this race. He is paying the price for taking those 2 h'cap chases though.

What has caught my eye is Henderson has a couple of mares, in 5.47. This is a Mares National Hunt Flat race. They are Numero Ventotto and Pretty Fortunate. Pretty Fortunate is unraced.

I remember Henderson sent a mare related to Best Mate, to Fakenham once on a bank holiday and she was unraced. It was terrible race and she hacked up and never saw her again. I assume she went to the paddocks for breeding.

This is interesting. This Plumpton race looks poor. I'm sure one of these Henderson horses are capable of taking this, if not hacking up. This could be bet of meeting.

I went to Plumpton racecourse 19th April. Just one bet, Sea Invasion won 7/2 £20 WIN, 4.02 Plumpton. Very Happy. I put Sea Invasion up above, 15th April.

As I arrived there by train, I approached racecourse. As soon as I saw first fence in home straight, an emotion of what could have been had I not had a bad back and chose to continue riding, at attempt for a category A amateur jockeys licence. It cost £26 entry. I saw Mick Fitzgerald and asked him to autograph my racecard. I spoke to him about I remember a horse called Boscean Chieftain. He said "He was a lovely horse to ride". I spoke of Henderson taking out Pretty Fortunate and Numero Ventotto of the Mares National Hunt Flat race. He said "I bet he regrets it, the ground is perfect".

I looked at runners in the parade ring for the first race, then watched it. Then looked at runners in the parade ring for the 2nd race and it was like should we be running horses? They are animals and should they be treated like this? That is my animal welfare part I think. I watched the 2nd race. Also I looked at runners for the 3rd race, in the parade ring. Again my animal welfare part was should we be running these horses? I watched the 3rd race.

Then it was my race, Sea Invasion. I had already took 7/2 with Unibet, Saturday. I looked at Sea Invasion in the parade ring. He looked at me as he passed and looked back also as he passed. You could see the whites of his eyes! I just knew from when I approached the racecourse, Sea Invasion was winning this race. Before turning in, Sea Invasion was being pushed along by Sam Twiston-Davies. But Sea Invasion was trying and I think under 5 lengths behind leaders. Then 2 out I shouted twice cheering him home. Then he jumped the last and I screamed twice and he took the race by half a length. I blew Sea Invasion a kiss, as he passed the line. After being interviewed on At The Races, I grabbed Sam Twiston-Davies for an autograph for my racecard and said "That was one hell of a ride". He said the horse was gutsy.

I also grabbed Anthony Honeyball for an autograph for my racecard. He and owners were approaching winning connections area. He signed racecard. It was like I think I shouldn't have asked for this. Could be because these people are rich. That is 3 wins at Plumpton for Sea Invasion.

They have a tribute there to Manhattan Boy, winner of 12 races at Plumpton.

Thought about backing Goodwin next race but never, and Goodwin took next race.

Then Mares National Hunt Flat race took by Posh Chick for Anthony Honeyball.

This was my first time at a racecourse in 31 years.

Also at Plumpton station after, I spoke to owners of Lord Of The Glance, trained by Alex Hales. Had a chat but had to cut short as I had to change at Haywards Heath, for Three Bridges.
