For those who like a bit of VDW

Look at the above Pre Race example from a VDW Angle

LTO Race

Won by War In Heavan amd note the highest Ability Rating in the race is 55

NTO War In Heaven won again and note the Highest Ability Rating in the Race

Now Alternativa when placed to win and note the Highest Ability Rating (Remember Alternativa does not have an ability rating )

Until recently hitting a somewhat barren patch, I did have
a very good spell of success with this method of ignoring
the horses that finished in front of the contender and merely
concentrating the efforts upon the horses that finished behind
the contender.

The surprising thing was the method was best suited to the
somewhat lower grade class handicaps for both the NH and the AW.
Certainly the success rate declined for handicaps in Class 3 and above.
Perhaps this was due to a better standard of horse in these races and
looking at horses that finish in front of the contender is the more likely
way to go about things in these better class races.

nagwa nagwa, just for interest I posted this elsewhere 4 hours ago :) .

Could VDW do any better in hcaps applying the elementary mechanical procedure of market and last three outings? Brighton looks the best course of a bad bunch to try with.

Brighton (G some GS) Market odds from 10.45am
2.25 Intercessor 7 (9/4), Uncle Dick 16 (10/3), Twilight Dancer 17 (6/1) - 1pt each.
4.10 Zayina 6 (7/2), The African Queen 14 (9/2), Wisper 15 (5/1) - 1pt each
4.45 Tenyatta 8 (7/2), Lightning Bay 8 (6/1), Elforleather 19 ( 4/1) - 1 pt each
5.20 Arco's Sunshine 13 (6/1), Split Elevens 16 (5/2), Cap D'Antibes 18 (6/1) - 1 pt each
5.55 Scramble 10 (11/2), Voodoo Ray 12 (4/1), One Hart 14 (4/1) - 1 pt each

This is what to look for in simplistic terms. Yes it was a class 6 race, but....

Ebony Maw two races back had horses rated 77 and 73 directly behind him.

Ebony Maw yesterday, only two horses rated just over 60 which Ebony Maw was one. You can then go and find if Ebony Maw's day was yesterday.

Reading the race comments helps too. In the Ayr 2.52 above, it's clear Noble Anthem, although winning as Fav, only had to overtake the leader and pass nothing else with no other runner challenging it. Also, looking at the TS against its OR (on good ground) would indicate a slow run affair.
