The 4.00 Thirsk was it really ran as slow as the figures suggest as on my comparative times it was run 0.33 secs per furlong slower than the next slowest race.
Did they crawl for the early part of the race ? or was the bottom bend riding slower than the rest of the course ?

At Thirsk

Both bends dolled-out 3-4 yds adding 20yds to the 7f distance and 30yds to the 1m4f distance.

Racing Post race reader:
Another decent handicap, but they didn´t go much of a pace early and that probably contributed to a thrilling four-way photo finish.
Those that raced towards the back of the field early never got a look in.


I take it the other race you are referring to was the 6.10 won by Whispered Times.

Remember you have to factor in the lbs per length when comparing times over different distances.

The Race Reader comment explains the reason.

I don't factor in the pounds per length when working out my going allowance.
So my comparative time statement was probably confusing.

I do not adjust for weight , but if I did
ITLAAQ would get a 52 from me and WHISPERING TIMES would get 53

At Thirsk
Both bends dolled-out 3-4 yds adding 20yds to the 7f distance and 30yds to the 1m4f distance.

If I know that the race distances have been altered I can adjust the lbs per length figure to compensate.

7f lbs per length = 2.37 (20yds added to distance)

20yds divided by 220yds = 0.09 (subtract from 2.37) = 2.28 (corrected lbs per length figure for 7f.

Original speed figure without adjustment for the 6.10 Thirsk was 58, after adjustment it would become 59

Looking at the results page on the Racing Post's website I couldn't see any mention of the rails being moved
