TOP RACES 2024 (DERBY'S & CLASSIC'S)

Well I've processed the decs for Boxing Day and uploaded my cards.

For the King George VI , that's more of a watching race for me as I come to different conclusions depending on which angle I look at it.

Here's the trial race stats, only showing the races where runners from the upcoming King George VI ran in the last renewal.

Some positives and negatives.

King George was a cracker, good/close finish. I wish I hadn't posted that I didn't think Banbridge had a chance after his last run, I stuck to what I put and went for The Jukebox Man, Djelo and Gaelic Warrior, Djelo was naff, should have had Banbridge instead, would have been nice. I did have a single on The Jukebox Man but not as big as it would have been, I'd already lost & it was a bad day overall.

Welsh National was also a decent race, good for Bowen/Curtis, I wanted O'Connell and I thought he was going to get there at one point. I did have Haiti Couleurs but in a double with Ben Solo, which was going to win the last but unseated rider, just my luck so far this Christmas.

Christmas Hurdle & Savills Chase at Ledopardstown & Faugheen Novice Chase at Limerick tomorrow & December Hurdle at Leopardstown Monday to go.....

Christmas Hurdle (13:55 @ Leopardstown) looks to be out of Teahupoo 5/4, Ballyburn 2/1 and Bob Olinger 8/1, so probably Bob Olinger is the value bet, if all 8 run it pays at least 3 so E/W Bob Olinger.

Savills Chase (14:30 @ Leopardstown) the market has Galopin Des Champs 15/8, Inothewayurthinkin 2/1 and Fastorslow 10/3 as a clear top three which is probably right. Has 9yro Galopin had too many big races now or does he have a few more left in him, or will the 7 yro Gold Cup winner Inthewayurthinkin beat him again, but he himself was beaten 53L by Gaelic Warrior 5 weeks ago, and Fastorslow hasn't been quite the same horse of late, so does that open the door for a horse like Lecky Watson 16/1, or if Gerri Colombe 20/1 runs to his best and the top 3 don't he could pinch it, and should the Irish National and Grand National winner I Am Maximus be 50/1, might be rude not to have an E/W punt.

Faugheen Novice Chase (13:40 @ Limerick) is a four horse race, literally, and the 100/1 Jonathan Sweeney horse (Western Walk) has no chance really, or shouldn't. Final Demand 1/3 is meant to be the 2nd coming so should win, but Mullins is naff atm, luckily for him the other two competitors are his horses. Jimmy Du Sueil had a good win over distance (2m 5f) at Cheltenham over Impose Toi and a good win over distance at Fairyhouse over The Big Westener, who had a good win over Jade De Grugy today, so could challenge. Gold Dancer 2nd to Romeo Coolio last time out, who has won again since but I doubt could challenge stepping up slightly for the 1st time, not against these two. Jimmy Du Sueil win for me, I like horses that keep getting underestimated, like Solness (9/1 win today).

December Hurdle (14:32 Monday @ Leopardstown) is probably out of the top 3 which are Lossiemouth 1/2, Brighterdaysahead 4/1 and Anzadam 11/2. If Brighterdaysahead runs like she did when beating Galopin then maybe she can challenge Lossiemouth, I do like Lossiemouth though, good horse but too short, probably Brighterdaysahead in any multiples bets even though she's ran poorly the last two times out, look at Banbridge bouncing back, it can be done. Will probably place a reasonable win double on Final Demand and Lossiemouth though, Mullins has got to start winning more again at some point, if he can't win these two there's defo something wrong.

DUBLIN RACING FESTIVAL

Nooooooo!!!!!

I was about to post something, then all of a sudden my horses were voided, checked and it's weathered off, but no doubt they will re-schedule, although, the track looks waterlogged so could be a few days....

Todays DRF racing already re-scheduled for Monday. They're saying it was a close call today and should be odds on to race tomorrow.

I think I'm going to play over both days at the DRF, hopefully increase chance of hitting some big acca's.

I will play Mullins as always, but he's got about 50 horses so will have to be selective and hope I pick the right ones.

I'll do the same with Elliott, and maybe Cromwell, plus all De Bromhead's horses as he only has 4 or 5.

Then I'll play any other trainers, like Emmet Mullins (3 horses), E McNamara (2 horses), Noel Meade (3 horses), Paul Nolan (3 horses), Ian Donoghue (2 horses), and Denis Hogan (4 horses).

Might also be rude not to play J P McManus but he has 11 horses.

So might be expensive to play it all over the 2 days, but think that's what I'm going to do. Plus a load of mix treble bets.

Good luck to all.

DRF - Day One

Shocker for Willie Mullins again, is something a miss? I'm just starting to wonder, Mullins is 69 years old now, he's achieved everything, especially this last year winning the Grand National with his son riding, then going over to the Breeders cup and getting a win, maybe he's taking his foot off the gas and starting to think of retirement (although, some keep going until their 80's).

DRF - Day Two

13:15 - Frankie John 28/1 (Denis Hogan) would be nice for me, Ruby Walsh has tipped it, and it will bring in a nice double for me, but probably unlikely looking at the field, but you never know with the ground. Two of the Elliott horses I fancy since they've won on heavy ground before - Santo Sospir 11/2 or Kazanzky 6/1.

13:50 - Probably either of the top two in the market - Narciso Has 10/11 or Mange Tout 15/8. Double Mange Tout with Santo Sospir in 1st race. I wouldn't mind Narciso Has since JP McManus won two yesterday, if he gets 2/3 more today that would be a nice return for me. Otherwise, punt on Sean Bowen/Gordon Elliot - Immediate Effect 25/1.

14:25 - Top two in market JP McManus so either would be ok for me, but looks pretty open. Champagne Kid 8/1, Duke Silver 12/1, Barra Run 20/1 (Sean Bowen), or Small Town Hero 22/1 (I Donoghue/C Stone-Walsh). Dippedinmoonlight or Barra Run would be nice for me, bring home a double with Backmeorsackme yesterday.

14:55 - 3 runners, what's the point. Romeo Coolio should win it. Suppose Kargese could beat him, but don't fancy it.

15:30 - Gold Cup - Class race this I think, almost anyone of them could win on their day/if other don't run to their best. From odds, I think I'll have I Am Maximus 8/1, Spindleberry 8/1 or Affordale Fury 11/1. JP McManus has Fact To File 13/2, I Am Maximus 8/1 and Inurthewayurthinkin 14/1.

16:05 - Tough race, looks fairly open, Addragoole 15/2 (Cromwell), Milan Forth 17/2 or Battle of Ridgeway 10/1. I need Battle Of Ridgeway for a huge double with Moonverrin 20/1, which won the last race yesterday for Mike Hassett.

16:40 - Naff flat race, probably top 3 in market, I'd favour Charismatic Kid or the Charles Byrnes horse as he's on fire - Rojuco Mac 7/2.

The only thing I got right was Mullins didn't do that well (compared to his usual stats) and some of the smaller trainers hitting, but I didn't do very well really - bring on Cheltenham.

Denman Chase - Newbury @ 14:10 - 2m7f - Soft

  • Haiti Couleurs 8/11
  • L'Homme Presse 6/4
  • Leave Of Absence 14/1
  • Riskintheground 40/1

Naff race now.

Game Spirit Chase - Newbury @ 14:45 - 2m - Soft

  • Lulamba 8/11
  • Saint Segal 9/2
  • Libberty Hunter 6/1
  • Master Chewy 15/2
  • Calico 14/1
  • Meetmebythesea 20/1
  • Brookie 50/1

Meetmebythesea could by a good bet at 20/1, stepping up in class but the horse doesn't know that, I like horses stepping up in class as they're underestimated.
