Punchestown 2026

This is the thread to put your bets up.

Gaelic Warrior 5/4 6.05 Punchestown Wednesday 29th April. Bet of meeting. Gaelic Warrior 151 1/4 requires a galloping track like Cheltenham for peak form. Fact To File 143 3/4 is finishing 2nd, I think.

Marine Nationale 7/4 6.05 Punchestown Tuesday 28th April. Great Bet. Solness is capable of 161, best horse in race but he has run at Sandown and isn't running but he hates this track like Cheltenham, so there is no point him running at Punchestown. So Marine Nationale 156 1/2 is best horse that can handle undulating tracks. Il Etait Temps 2nd at best. Highest I can assess Il Etait Temps is 154, from a formline using Captain Guinness 137 1/4 in the 2026 Queen Mother Champion Chase. That is if Captain Guinness has run his race like I believe so. Then Majbourough 153 3/4 in 3rd, proving he handles this track. Chance Majbourgh might not run his race as undulating track, like Cheltenham.

I see Turnupthevolume running in the Vital Island colours, in the cross country chase Tuesday 28th April, 2.30 Punchestown. Vital Island runs in the La Touche Cup, Thursday 30th April, 3.40 Punchestown.

That Champion Chase result I can't believe. Yes Majborough might not have liked course, like Cheltenham, but how easy Il Etait Temps beat Marine National. Marine Nationale was wearing cheekpieces but I think that wasn't a reason. Il Etait Temps was so impressive but what has he beat?

Il Etait Temps ratings

2025 Sandown Celebration Chase 146 1/2. Beat Jonbon 141.
Sandown Tingle Creek chase 150. Beat Jonbon 141.
2026 Cheltenham Queen Mother Champion Chase 154.

2026 Punchestown Champion Chase. A literal line from Marine Nationale 156 1/2 says Il Etait Temps has run 161 1/2.

I find it tough to believe that Il Etait Temps has run 15 lengths better here, than in the Celebration Chase. Cautious of this result. Marine Nationale run bad last time. That was because of ground. But also was it JUST because of ground last time? 19 lengths was a some way to get beat. Has he lost a bit of his Zest? Cautious of Marine Nationale, after getting beat so easy.

Was too late to back Turnupthevolume earlier, but would have been small bet. Turnupthevolume was beat miles. In the La Touche Cup, Vital Island can't reverse last years form with Busselton at those weights. If I bet in that, see price of Vanillier.

So Gaelic Warrior wins easy. I rated Gaelic Warrior 7 and a half lengths better than Fact To File, on a galloping track. It was easier than that. In fact, I was thinking about having more on like £100 but bottled it. Thanks Gaelic Warrior. I love you.

I'm thinking can Bodhisattva run a big race in the 3.40 Punchestown Thursday, La Touche Cup? Seems like he wants good ground or good to soft and no softer. He has run over the cross country course twice, once he can be excused because of it being yielding to soft behind Stumptown, but other run behind Singing Banjo in this race 2024, it was yielding, good to yielding in places, but his run was poor. If he can translate his form to this cross country course, I think 33/1 is very big. I'm thinking about having £2 E/W.

What Path is a stone better in with Fountain House, point to point form, and just beat 3/4 of a length. This 2.30 Punchestown, Saturday. Betting suggestion by At The Races 25/1. That is crazy. I also like Escaria Ten at 12/1. A favourite jockey is riding, James Best.
