Proform Opinions?

Hi guys, first post on here.

Been looking at what software is available for systems and form, and have been engrossed in proform, been watching all their YouTube tutorials and read some reviews online, but want to know what your perspective is?
As someone that’s a novice to horse racing, the amount of data available is mega appealing to me, but I’m well aware there is a lot to learn, Proform advertise that they have ready made systems available to use, to make a profit and get you started upon subscribing, is this all a marketing lie or is it actually true? I know they have a telegram group too with more systems on and of course guidance from other members, anyway sorry for the ramble, just wanted to see what you guys think, before subscribing, it is pretty expensive after all.

All i can say is they gave me a 60 day trial around 2015 and all the free systems also and they were not that good, maybe if they were for a period now even the value soon would evaporate. As for the form part it could be good for the expert maybe but a novice i would imagine could soon get lost.

Is hard starting out now really so maybe best to try and learn bit by bit on here, there is some good reading so no need to spend a load of money to start up learning.

Good Luck!!

I certainly spend plenty of time watching racing, keeping notes etc, so I’m pretty screwed on, on what to look out for, horse form etc, I’ve never built my own system or anything like that before. I’m a massive fan of form studying and trying to Identify potential winners, just want a bit of a helping hand, and I’ve heard there telegram group is very helpful. At £195 though that’s steep for 8 weeks, and want to know if following their ready made systems is a good start, or if it’s just advertising, as they advertise it as a guaranteed way of making money.

If you know your way around the form book and can use spreadsheets then there is everything you want to know in the electronic data base

you need to set up in your format - I have it like this

1602356223561.png

I copy it to excell create race card spread sheets

1602356366432.png

Each horse gets its own sheet.

1602356391311.png

1602356434900.png

and create a mini form book for the race - very time consuming - but then you have the Systems that are proofed and will pay your subs if followed religiously and also the web site which I understand is easier to follow - I dont have any systems ( always looking for one) and dont run the 7 free installed ones - just my choice - The Telegraph group is good and there are some good helpful knowledgeable lads on there.

It took me months to get to grips with it and that seems to be a common theme - I doubt it can be learnt in 8 weeks - but the system's pay your subs - always supposing that they are not on a down turn or suffering from variance during your 8 weeks. Some only use the web site output which is totally separate from the form book but you sound as though the form book is where you want to be.

Is it value - for me yes it is . Is it time consuming yes it is (but they all are) - best advantage is once it downloaded you can manipulate the same data to research - Horses - courses - going - Jockeys - Trainers - ....... ???????????? anything related to race really

But be prepared to stick with it - always here to help if possible - there is also a detailed PDF of 86 systems (proofed) supplied by members

I would ask that your subs does allow access to the Telegraph group as that is important and can be searched for ideas

Good luck

That’s brilliant help, Mark! So basically on top of the 7 free installed systems, I also get a detailed PDF of 86 proofed systems? That sounds like a no brainier to me now then, I can follow those systems while I learn everything on the software and get to grips with everything.

It seems to have come on alot since my trial from what Mark is saying why not try and get a discount i got 2 mths for £60.

I’ve already tried that, to no success

They tend to run a 50% off deal 3 or 4 times per year, the last one was a few weeks ago, I suspect the next will be around Christmas/New year.
I did the trail maybe last year sometime. If you want ALL THE INFORMATION given to you all at once, proform is excellent.
For me, it was simply way more than I could ever use. In fact, probably a little too overwhelming for my little head to get itself around.

What they did, which was excellent. Was send you a weekly email showing you how different bits of the software worked, what stats meant, how they could be used and arranged to best suit you. The guides really were great.

The "systems" I did not find too helpful, it seemed like there were literally hundreds of selections each day. It would have taken most of the day to get the bets on. a bad few days and you could easily be hundreds down, even playing to small stakes.

If you like to play with spreadsheets and stats and create systems and look at numbers and find angles based on trainers or courses or jockeys or any number of other fields, there is no finer place to go for the raw data, but you will certainly not be spoon-fed a winning setup, it will take the full 8 weeks just to figure out what all the buttons do. Expect a very steep learning curve, and have a very big bank ready to go if you are planning to use the systems that they are touting to pay for it.

This is one of the tweets that was around the last time they ran the "special"

The Betfair SP systems had 527 bets in three weeks in September
The Bookmaker Systems had 1010 bets in three weeks.

That's 1537 bets in three weeks ... for a 243pt profit.

How many other systems are/were there?
What was the profit/loss on the other ones?

I tried to build some systems of my own on what little knowledge i had then with their builder, but i found hrb better for learning on personally i will say one thing though it is hard not to backfit totally with any system because any back dated experiment is to degrees unless very basic.

But what do now is half the given stats if they still show good then their is a good chance a system may work over time.

Gentlemen. Never tried proform personally but I know some here use it to good effect.
What I would suggest, no matter which database you have access to is instead of trying to fit the best results to the data available, try coming up with an idea /scenario first and then see if the figures agree.

I was within a click of subscribing on the last ( very recent) discount period until I totted up the number of bets I would be making on the " this will pay your subs" systems....most of which I would be unable to follow anyway, but having said that I've no doubt it's a very good product...Andrew Mount said recently on WH radio that he has 600+ stored systems on Pro-form and often get multiple qualifiers on a variety of them in the same race.

The product itself is a fantastic bit of kit, no doubt but I would wait until you have nothing but time to sit and play with it. It was simply way too much for me, I liked the daily cards or whatever they are called, but he charges way too much for those as a standalone product in my opinion.

I have no doubt that you could take the systems and narrow them down to workable systems for yourself for the 8 weeks, but there are just way too many bets to make it practical to "follow along and pay for your subscription"

600 is alot of systems i use about 30 now but what i have also found now, is if a horse qualifies more than once on a system from a different angle the chances are that it has a 10% to 15% more chance of winning. Take in mind my ave price is around 14/1 so i would stake accordingly but anybody working with shorter prices i think it is better on level stakes to protect ones bank better.

Here is a chap who looks like he tried proform systems for a period and even tweaked them also, and started well but then they started to fall away abit like most of my own do with any system maker.

Still maybe will help to show what can happen it is never easy.

When your systems 'fall away' is it the avg win odds or the strike or a combo?

Hi pawras pawras Most were on the all weather and Lingfield, and as Chesham mentioned with breeding the chain gets weaker also age catches up with some and their form falls away and some are h'capped with to much weight as well. With some of the two factor systems with certain combinations they seem to just work for certain periods so i dont use them anymore, alot of proforms were this type that was in 2015 seems not now. Also some of the breeding ones i broke down to certain other tracks which seemed had a high s/r but again were never as consistent going forward over time.

The one system as i pointed out in an hrb thread that has stayed consistent is the 5f one which is still winning after more than 4 years, so i have setup loads of these similar seems ok at present but time will tell i suppose.

Hi if your a novice to the game i would subscribe to Raceform Interactive, it`s about £220 for the entire jumps season and you have the ratings, form, stats, comments ,horses to note etc and the facility do do your own ratings, keep notes, systems, horse tracker etc.

Hi Viva,
Bugger the systems I think by what I have read you are already going down the right path. You have mentioned the two magic words FORM STUDY...and THAT is what it is all about.Stats and facts are important but secondary, the most important thing I can say to you is study the race, watch as many replays as possible, make notes and then make some more notes and when you have finished making those note make some more:
SPACIALISE:Very important, nobody on planet earth with all the software in the world can be a specialist on a 3 mile romp round a muddy old field and also be an expert on a 5 furlong dash on the fibresand SPECIALISE IN A GROUP OF DISTANCES.
BUT even after all that you are only half way there, the next thing is getting the right price. If you think a horse is in with a chance and it is 3/1,forget it.If its 200/1 bet it. I am not going to wax lyrical about Value because most of the stuff written about value is nonsense, just have a simple yardstick that if you think that horse is in with a chance then you want 6/1 or above. It's the only way to make a profit.
System and ratings can be good fun but ultimately when it comes to selections you have to walk your own wilderness.
