Bula
Yearling
You sound a lot like me Mick. If i didnt know any better i would say i wrote that.
A couple of things. You feel as though it is time to wind down your betting. Trust me, many people feel like that. And i think it is a race against time as to who winds down first. The way the sport is going with incompetent, irrelevant and fourth rate bookmakers and their staff, coupled with out of touch racecourses who charge exorbitant admission charges along with massively overpriced food and drink prices, it seems as though they are quite content to carry on down this road to oblivion. Racing is dying ! It is killing itself from within. People of our age should be thankful that we lived through the golden period of racing and betting where if you wanted a bet, you got that bet. Where bookmakers wanted your business and their staff knew what they were doing. But now............. !!!??? I'd be shocked if i actually walked into a bookmakers and somebody behind the counter actually knew what they were talking about.
I was offered a couple of jobs a few years ago in trading rooms but i had already decided i'd had enough and i said no to both. Apart from the fact that i wouldnt be seen dead in a trading room now, i was making a nice living punting and it just wasnt worth the hassle. But a few months after i turned them down, i was speaking to one of the trading managers. And he told me that their strategy now was not to employ "racing people", they were looking for maths graduates. They didnt want people who had an opinion and would want to take a fav on or get the front two in the market, they just wanted maths people. And thats what you, i and everyone else is up against these days.
And as for a minimum bet guarantee - good luck with that venture. But dont hold your breath.
