JIB Ratings

Bath 2.42 Box To Box
Has operated at a level above todays race but as a 7 yr old you do wonder if he retains any of that ability. Mark has dropped into the mid 80's as a result. Is this still too high? Possibly but the race may just work out for him. Drawn in 8 this lead/prominent racer has the only other front runner drawn inside him in stall 3, all the others prefer to race in midfield which should allow BTB to track over and race prominently letting Helga do the donkey work. Helga is coming off a 242 day break which is a lot for the horse to overcome and may see it blow up as the race enters its final stages. That hopefully leaves the door open for this 10f horse who prefers to go left handed to take advantage.

Southwell 7.00 Yorkshire
A proper 7f horse, current form shows a downward trend as does its OR. Returned to a stiff 7f and drawn in 11 so his run for the line should be a clear one. Hope the ratings have this one correct

Both selections finished 2nd, close but no cigar

Newcastle 6.15 Against The Wind

Proper 5f AW horse returned to those conditions for the first time since March. Top rated for me based on that last AW run on this track. Looking at the form, it highly favours tracks classified with a stiff finish such as Southwell and Newcastle. Its running style benefits from hitting the front or traveling prominently and digging in on testing, straight tracks.
While it won a minor Class 3 handicap at Thirsk and placed at York early in its 3yo career, it routinely struggles in highly competitive turf fields, often weakening rapidly in the closing stages. Has won off a mark of 93 and gone close off 92. Rating reached 102 at its peak but has now dropped to 91. Has shown signs of life In its most recent run at Doncaster, despite finishing 9th of 21, it was only beaten 5.9 lengths at massive odds of 66/1, showing a slightly more competitive edge than its previous races.
Relies on early speed to lie up prominently or lead. Draw position of 9 does not look ideal according to ATR draw analysis with horses drawn on the wings either high or low preferred. However with Elyam drawn close by in 13 likely to force the pace he can possibly get a good break and track over getting a good tow into the race. Was hoping for better than the 4-1 on offer so will probably take a look at the market tomorrow.

Newmarket 1.15 Roach Power

For the 2nd time this week going for a horse looking for a repeat win in the same race as last year. The key here is the going, much better with cut in the ground. Easily tops my ratings and does not need the race to be run a certain way to show its best as it can lead or track the pace.
Started off so well handicapped last season it ended up winning 5 races but has paid for it ended up on a mark of 87. This looks a well contested race for a class 4 but its OR has plumetted to 68 and is carrying 11lb less than last year.

Poor runs yesterday, would have preferred to see some more seconditis, will take a closer lok later to see if I missed anything,

Newmarket 11.20 Space Party

Could have been given a decent mark to start off its handicapping career. Fair debut showing a willing attitude at the end of the race. Improved again on 2nd run just losing out by 3/4 to a more experienced rival. That race has produced 4 wins from 18 subsequent runs. Given a break before its AW debut and again looked the part despite getting hampered. Given an opening mark of 77 and beaten a nose by a horse now rated in mid 80's. Backed that up on this track on soft going latest and looks a live contender here.

At last a winner, nothing for tomorrow, couple of races at Wolverhampton on monday, season winding now so bets will probably be few and far between

Wolverhampton 5.30
Into the laps of the racing gods with this one. Chalk Mountain needs a pace to aim at and if he does not get it will not get close. Using ATR website Seargent Pep and Peter The Wolf look set to go off in front and provide the pace the selection needs. Ideal scenario would see him dropping out from stall 8 and coming wide and late into the straight. 7f on the tapeta, class 4 off a mark in the 70's suits him really well. Just need the race to be run to suit at odds of 13/2

CM backed into 3-1 so I was not alone in my reckoning. First impressions are that there was not enough pace on for my selection based on the way some of the horses were pulling in behind. Stayed on but never looked like winning.

Wolverhampton 7.30
Yes I'm Mali is a fairly consistent sprinter in class 3/4 off marks in mid to low 80's over 6f. Looks the class/form horse on my ratings. Wide draw gives the jockey an opportunity to drop in behind the pace and wait for the gap, wether he gets it or not will remain to be seen
