If you bet best read this.

Its very confusing " just what do they want" the bookies are going to limited to accessing only low earning newbies who as soon as they show any appitude will be stopped from betting - totally strangling the money flow - you ( perhaps I am wrong) have to assume that any who is currently restricted will not be arsed to fill in countless forms etc only to maintain their current status quo.

I cannot believe that they or the government want to lose all that revenue.

never underestimate people's capacity for stupidity and never looking much past their nose end/never thinking any moves forward.

many within the plc bookies even will have a limited understanding of horse racing and it's punters, they just want a better bottom line for shareholders with less risk, aka persistent loser recreational punters who'd they'd rather have on cartoon racing etc so it's a better margin for the bookie ie no levy to pay.
as long as the gov is getting tax revenue from bookies what do they care whether if it's cartoons etc?

those in gov and quango like positions are likely to understand zilch about betting on horses and have preconcieved ideas of it being some slightly grubby working class thing to be managed/controlled for their own good

Thought it was an betting online problem - are we saying that there are no restrictrictions if you bet on the Flintstones ?

There's no levy for them to pay betting on the flinstones or wacky races.

But yeah it seems to be an online thing.

Are you going to be subject to affordability checks buying lottery tickets online???

I dare bet the more things go cashless it will be implemented every where not just online, all part of your social credit score.......
try to bet, put your card in , and it goes computer says no you lost £x last week fk off, you can't place a bet until such and such date.....welcome to the future

Big issue in Ireland because the government are banning betting ads on Racing TV which totally relies on bookmakers to keep the show on the road...so possibly no live streams of Irish racing soon, same will happen here.

don't be surprised if all betting ads get banned here as well, that will be somewhere on someone's plan, best way to kill a thing is to cut off the money supply

personally I object to the idea that any person(s) feel they have right to dictate my life and they feel "they know best", fk them and the horse they rode in on !!!

some people love big overarching bureaucracies and govs, well until they start implementing policies they don't like

So does that mean racing is finished ? Cannot see the breeders and Jockey club etc fighting for their livelihoods - what is the size and worth to the Uk economy ? I remember Magnier once stating that racing was Irelands biggest industry ?

I've no idea what effect it will have Mark the Racing Industry is campaigning against it saying basically horseracing and betting are closely linked etc.

Robert Sangster summed it up perfectly many years ago when he said, 'There are only two reasons for horse racing to exist, the furtherment of the breed and betting'
I also recall him saying that he could phone WH and have £5000 on a horse with no fuss...........try that these days and you would prob get arrested. !

Re Robert Sangster, it got me thinking if there is a connection between the introduction of the lottery and our current woes with the bookmakers. When the lottery was introduced it trashed the football pools industry virtually overnight. Back then most working blokes spent time and effort going through the fixtures to sort out their draws for the weekend. Come the lottery and it was all about the instant hit, no effort required just pick 6 numbers and away you go. Fast forward 30 years and here we are. Scratch cards, FOBT's, Bingo and fruit machines. No effort required, no spending hours studying the entries for the Stewards Cup etc., no risk for the bookmakers just a guaranteed bottom line. Will there be any way back from the current state of affairs, unfortunately I think not.

Well if the facts are what they are and 97% of gamblers loss money when they have a bet, you could say then that 97% of gamblers use it as hobbie.
So what they dont relise is if they stop people from getting bet on these people who lets be honest have it ingrained in them from birth, will have to find something else to use the time up with and i can assure you not many will take up golf or cricket.
So your going to have alot of unhappy people who will turn to drink or drugs and the way the have ruined drinking pubs with the no smoking which i have never smoked in my life by the way.
This in my veiw is going to turn alot of family households in to unhappy enviroments where every one is looking for reasons to have enjoyment and there is none to be found which will be vicious circle of unhappyness.
Dont get me wrong i dont know what answer is as the on line gambling could be massive problem in future with no saftey valves but what can differant people all afford to loss is impossible to answer as all differant.
You do hear of footballers and the like lossing millions but that is pure silly infact the money they get weekly is even sillier as the world already went to pot.
I will give one instance why this world is insane here it is headlines on news hospital bombed 300 killed or injured, some one signed for premier team 80 million.
All every one asks in the next day is did you hear about the big signing last night amazing what adifferance he will make.
So in my opinion the world is already insane so what we bet or dont bet should be our choice, and if your one of the insane ones you will loss more than you can afford to then some.
But if your level headed which i honestly believe most are then whats the problem can always do a Yosser Hughes gees a job.
