## Horses to Follow — UK Turf Flat, 1–14 September 2026
Two weeks of UK turf flat racing, 236 races and 2,278 runners, screened sectional-by-sectional for horses whose finishing position undersells what they actually did in the closing stages. The method: classify every race's genuine pace shape from furlong-by-furlong splits first (never trust a closing-speed figure before you know whether the whole field was sprinting together), then flag the runners whose closing sectional rank materially outran their finishing position — MaxGap, in this framework's shorthand — or whose raw closing time cleared this course and distance's historical par despite a modest finish in a race that was itself run too slowly for FSP to be trusted on its own.
This is the curated version: the full 16 Must Follow selections below in full, plus the strongest handful from a much longer One to Watch and Sectional Sleeper list (99 qualifiers in total across the fortnight). The complete tracker is available separately for paid subscribers.
## Race of the Fortnight
**Doncaster, 10 September 2026** — 1m 3f Class 3 handicap, Good To Soft. The field-wide Vs.Par here averaged -5.24s, the fastest of any race in the sample relative to par. Won by **Devil's Peak** (J & T Gosden, W Buick) at 2.88/1, posting a Vs.Par of -5.24s with a TI Diff of 1.6 — a proper, clock-verified performance at the head of affairs, not just a strong pace reading.
## Must Follow
Every horse here met all four of the framework's hard requirements: a Fast or Very Fast pace-validated race, MaxGap of at least +3, a closing sectional at or inside track par, and a completed, passed Passing Walking Horses check. Nothing on reputation, nothing on a single metric alone. None of the conditions below include a draw requirement — no same-day draw-bias analysis was run for this scan, so check general course knowledge separately before backing on that basis.
**Amathus (IRE)** (P R Chamings) — Bath, 02/09/2026, 1m handicap (Class 6, Good). Finished 10th of 11 at 51/1, but ranked 3 of 11 on FSP (98.79%) for a MaxGap of +7 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.66s acceleration, 7 usable splits). Closing sectional 25.79s vs a course+distance (n=302) par of 26.05s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -0.78s, TI Diff 0.6, top speed 39.02mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Needs a genuinely strongly-run race with a clear passage from the back; a soft-paced sprint finish blunts their weapon. Best form of the run suggests a target around 8f, with a workable range of 7f–10f on good or close to it.
**Another Investment (IRE)** (N Tinkler) — Doncaster, 13/09/2026, 6f handicap (Class 4, Good). Finished 12th of 16 at 17/1, but ranked 5 of 16 on FSP (99.78%) for a MaxGap of +7 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.66s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Closing sectional 23.98s vs a course+distance (n=283) par of 24.26s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -1.54s, TI Diff 0.9, top speed 41.46mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Wants the pace properly stoked up front and a clean run through from off the pace; a dawdle up front does them no favours. Best form of the run suggests a target around 6f, with scope to step up to 7f–8f on this profile on good or close to it.
**Elevating** (R Hannon) — Salisbury, 03/09/2026, 6f group 3 (Class 1, Good To Soft). Finished 7th of 11 at 51/1, but ranked 3 of 11 on FSP (98.50%) for a MaxGap of +4 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.68s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Closing sectional 25.63s vs a course+distance (n=291) par of 26.05s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -0.27s, TI Diff 0.6, top speed 39.28mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Best served by a true gallop that they can be delivered into off a hold-up ride, with a gap when they ask for it. Best form of the run suggests a target around 6f, with scope to step up to 7f–8f on this profile on good to soft or close to it.
**Fillipas (IRE)** (B R Millman) — Salisbury, 03/09/2026, 6f group 3 (Class 1, Good To Soft). Finished 5th of 11 at 29/1, but ranked 1 of 11 on FSP (98.79%) for a MaxGap of +4 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.68s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Closing sectional 25.51s vs a course+distance (n=291) par of 26.05s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -0.27s, TI Diff 0.6, top speed 38.87mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Needs a strongly-run race and a horseman's ride from the back — shuffled up in a slowly-run affair, this profile goes missing. Best form of the run suggests a target around 6f, with scope to step up to 7f–8f on this profile on good to soft or close to it.
**In The Black** (G R Oldroyd) — Doncaster, 11/09/2026, 5f group 2 (Class 1, Good). Finished 5th of 11 at 51/1, but ranked 1 of 11 on FSP (100.80%) for a MaxGap of +4 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.80s acceleration, 4 usable splits). Closing sectional 23.14s vs a course+distance (n=156) par of 23.24s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -0.62s, TI Diff 1.4, top speed 42.64mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Needs a genuinely strongly-run race with a clear passage from the back; a soft-paced sprint finish blunts their weapon. Best form of the run suggests a target around 5f, with scope to step up to 6f–7f on this profile on good or close to it.
**Raatea** (Miss J A Camacho) — Doncaster, 13/09/2026, 6f handicap (Class 4, Good). Finished 11th of 16 at 29/1, but ranked 7 of 16 on FSP (99.17%) for a MaxGap of +4 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.66s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Closing sectional 24.10s vs a course+distance (n=283) par of 24.26s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -1.54s, TI Diff 0.9, top speed 41.65mph.
**Paroda Diva (IRE)** (P Neville) — Thirsk, 14/09/2026, 6f handicap (Class 6, Good). Finished 7th of 11 at 7/1, but ranked 3 of 11 on FSP (98.55%) for a MaxGap of +4 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.74s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Closing sectional 24.34s vs a course+distance (n=250) par of 24.55s — clears it, and the Passing Walking Horses check is satisfied on both pace and raw time. Vs.Par -0.2s, TI Diff -0.6, top speed 40.94mph. Confidence: **Misread** — the ability is already proven, not merely hoped for. Needs a truly-run race with a clear passage from mid-division; traffic in a tightly-bunched field is the main risk. Best form of the run suggests a target around 6f, with scope to step up to 7f–8f on this profile on good or close to it.
**Another Investment (IRE)** (N Tinkler) — Ripon, 01/09/2026, 6f handicap (Class 4, Soft). Finished 5th of 10 at 51/1, but ranked 2 of 10 on FSP (98.71%) for a MaxGap of +3 in a **Fast**-classified race (-0.67s acceleration, 5 usable splits). Best served by a true gallop that they can be delivered into off a hold-up ride, with a gap when they ask for it. Best form of the run suggests a target around 6f, with scope to step up to 7f–8f on this profile on soft or close to it.

## One to Watch (selected)
A further 64 horses met the broader One to Watch bar across the fortnight; the eight below are the strongest signals, one per race, from that list.
**Kanishka (IRE)** (Ian Williams) — York, 06/09/2026, 5f. 18th of 21 at 51/1, MaxGap +14 in a Very Fast race (FSP 96.95%, rank 4 of 21). Closing sectional falls short of the course+distance (n=207) par. Conditional case: the pace read is corroborating, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
**Kandy Magic** (M Dods) — Carlisle, 09/09/2026, 5f. 11th of 13 at 21/1, MaxGap +8 in a Even race (FSP 100.76%, rank 3 of 13). Closing sectional matches the course+distance (n=270) par. Conditional case: needs the pace picture to firm up next time, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
**Southbank (IRE)** (C Gordon) — Bath, 13/09/2026, 5f. 13th of 17 at 23/1, MaxGap +8 in a Fast race (FSP 95.41%, rank 5 of 17). Closing sectional falls short of the course+distance (n=463) par. Conditional case: the pace read is corroborating, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
**Dadawada (IRE)** (C N Kellett) — Thirsk, 14/09/2026, 6f. 10th of 16 at 51/1, MaxGap +7 in a Fast race (FSP 97.10%, rank 3 of 16). Closing sectional falls short of the course+distance (n=250) par. Conditional case: the pace read is corroborating, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
**Hierarchy (IRE)** (J A Osborne) — Windsor, 14/09/2026, 6f. 10th of 13 at 7.5/1, MaxGap +7 in a Fast race (FSP 98.79%, rank 3 of 13). Closing sectional falls short of the course+distance (n=441) par. Conditional case: the pace read is corroborating, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
**Summerstorms Dream (IRE)** (J S Goldie) — Hamilton Park, 02/09/2026, 6f. 11th of 13 at 26/1, MaxGap +7 in a Very Fast race (FSP 95.50%, rank 4 of 13). **Rosario (IRE)** (R A Teal) — Doncaster, 12/09/2026, 5f. 16th of 21 at 9.5/1, MaxGap +6 in a Even race (FSP 98.22%, rank 10 of 21). Closing sectional clears the course+distance (n=156) par. Conditional case: needs the pace picture to firm up next time, worth watching for a repeat under a truly-run race.
## Sectional Sleepers (selected)
A further 19 horses qualified this way; the six below cleared this course and distance's historical par by the widest margin relative to their own race's average. These are time-validated rather than FSP-validated — races that were shaped as a sprint finish, where closing-speed rank isn't trustworthy evidence on its own, but the raw clock still tells a story.
**Tony Montana** (K P De Foy) — Doncaster, 12/09/2026, 1m 2f. 4th of 12 at 9/1 in a Slow race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (23.73s) beat the course+distance (n=183) par of 25.47s by 1.74s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
**River King (IRE)** (R Hannon) — Doncaster, 12/09/2026, 1m. 4th of 17 at 8/1 in a Slow to Even race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (23.64s) beat the course+distance (n=138) par of 25.25s by 1.61s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
**Dijon Gone** (D J Coakley) — Epsom Downs, 10/09/2026, 1m 4f. 6th of 14 at 8/1 in a Slow race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (25.05s) beat the course+distance (n=114) par of 26.22s by 1.17s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
**Starlight Bay (IRE)** (M P Tregoning) — Bath, 12/09/2026, 1m. 4th of 12 at 34/1 in a Slow to Even race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (25.13s) beat the course+distance (n=302) par of 26.05s by 0.92s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
**Addison Grey** (C G Cox) — Ascot, 05/09/2026, 7f. 4th of 8 at 6/1 in a Slow race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (23.84s) beat the course+distance (n=185) par of 24.55s by 0.71s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
**God Given Talent (IRE)** (W J Haggas) — Doncaster, 10/09/2026, 6f. 5th of 17 at 9.5/1 in a Slow to Even race, where FSP rank isn't reliable evidence — but the raw closing sectional (23.58s) beat the course+distance (n=283) par of 24.26s by 0.68s, well clear of this race's own average clearance. The clock says more than the finishing order does here.
