Great Music

Trad. Irish (and Scottish) Drinking song but given a Celtic Soul touch by The Belfast Cowboy in his early 70's prime Live at the LA Troubadour with his best ever band The Caledonia Soul Orchestra. Van's 1973's "It's Too Late To Stop Now" regularly makes the Top 10 Best Live Albums Ever.

At the opposite end of the spectrum here's a little folk ditty about when you have been tanking it to excess and not just drink - here Mary Jane (Mara-Juan) is a sly old 60's reference to the old Sweet Jamaican Herb, Bolivian Marching Powder (cocaine) and maybe the worst drug of all - women.
From the majestic Solid Air, Big John Martyn sung this in between going 10 rounds for real with the amazing upright bassist Danny Thompson.

Loudon Wainwright's "Down Drinking At The Bar"

And Early Tom Waits "(Looking For) The Heart of Saturday Night

Here's Van backing up the great John Lee Hooker on the banks of the Mississippi River. This is"The Blues", it was an old bluesman Little Walter that taught Van the harmonica in a Manchester hotel room in 1963.

Only seen him once - with Linda Lewis - Gerry Lees sister - Bradford

Was that at St Georges Hall ??
Yes. He walked on delivered the 60mins and walked of , aside from introducing the band and the plugging the album he never spoke . The album is not bad , but the show was very ordinary .
