Death Of Queen Elizabeth The II

Not for lack of trying! This is going to be a bit of unknown territory for most of us, Elizabeth being the monarch for our entire lives so far. Let's hope that 'third time's the charm' is appropriate for our new king as well, as the first two Charles' were nothing much to write home about. It would be very sad if the monarchy were now to suffer after Elizabeth devoted herself for so long to maintaining it. We have tended to have bad kings and good queens in this country, and that belief is undoubtedly skewed by having had such a great queen for the past 70 years. RIP indeed.

So sad to see. I've spoken with a lot of people since the announcement and many who thought they'd be indifferent feel deeply affected. I got home earlier and my 9 year old girl ran down the stairs to me in tears. It just felt unusually dark, gloomy and eerie as I left my office earlier, more so than normal.

Rest in peace, your majesty.

She's with Philip now, their both probably back in their prime and very happy. It's a better thought than feeling the loss of everybody's granny.

I feel sorry for Charles, he's lost his mum and now has to try to be as good at the job as she was.

Although she was at an age when it was expected, it still feels very sad.

She was of course very involved in racing having owned a lot of racehorses. My memories from betting shops are that there was always added interest when she had a runner in a race. Her racing colours are most recognisable and people always talked about her runners and most cheered if her horse won even if they didn’t have a bet on it.

Rest in peace.

Now they have gone and abandoned Saturday and Sunday too. The BHA needs to realise that we're not all sycophants. You might not get to hear it on the BBC but the last time they counted, 25% of the British were Republicans.

It's obviously an unprecedented time for everyone - most of us have never experienced this sort of event .
Trying to be realistic, it must be difficult for all public bodies to balance showing appropriate respect on one hand with the wish for 'the show must go on' on the other.
I for one don't envy anyone trying to make the 'right' decision, simply because there probably isn't one.

Your above is well said dave58 dave58 as attempting to find an acceptable balance will put anyone on a hiding to nothing. I believe she would want Racing to continue and also that she might be having a chuckle right now at the predicament of Racings Toffs who feel they must be seen to be doing the correct things while perhaps wishing otherwise. !
