Close Shaves - Lamentations of a Gambler

I was confident El Fabiolo would win today and posted it, but that was obvious and very short. I also thought 4 races could be big odds at Punchestown but we got 5 favourites, a 2nd favourite, and 7/1, so I fluffed that one, but I managed to get one by tipping the UK horses & Kilbeg King 12/1 won for A J Honeyball/Aiden Coleman, otherwise, pretty poor really.

The racing has been pretty poor the last few weeks, except Good Friday. There's been a lot of abandoned meetings, hopefully the ground won't be water logged soon and we'll get more/better racing.

I'm lamenting about SkyBet. I've always stayed loyal to SkyBet as I like the betslip and weekly offer, plus ITV7, and sometimes the extra place races do land you a big odds place bet that you wouldn't have hit if you played it on another site, but the fact they don't offer BOG on extra place races often loses you far more. I think I'm going to have to move to BetFair, there's far more available for horse racing, acca hedge and insurance, extra places or take a place off an increase the odds, BOG on every race, who cares about 1 extra place with no BOG on SkyBet. E.g. I hit a 10/1 and 25/1, but because it was extra places on SkyBet I only got 8/1 and 9/2!!! The 9/2 drifted to 25/1, crazy, but that's when you get stiffed big time by SkyBet.

I'll play Aintree & Epsom, and not much else over the next few weeks (I might just start playing the bigger meetings, these small meets at places like Bath and Windsor are rubbish).

I would a different view - dislike the big meetings - far more likely to profit from lower class races. Bookies exchanges only and then it’s really only BF and occasionally Betdaq

Yeh I can see the point, but the odds are shocking at small meets, 3/4/5/6 runner races with a Paul Nicholls/Venetia Williams etc. favourite, they're just naff for bigger odds. Admittedly, the bigger meets are harder, if you have 16 runners that are all class it's harder to pick the winner, but when you do, it's so much better than picking up 3 short priced winners at smaller meets (And I find it more satisfying hitting a 10/1 than a favourite, plus I only need to hit one 10/1 to match the return from four or five favourites winning).

Paul Nicholls/Venetia Williams
Would not feature in races that I look at - short odds ? - the punters only advantage is that he / she can choose when to back or not to back.

the smaller field I assume you backing in chases , agree small fields are frustrating but often the prices are short because of the trainers reputation and are more often than over backed( WAX Column) leaving opportunities behind them

Indeed, I used to mostly play the 'top' trainers, but now I'm mixing it up with 'lesser' trainers, like S Edmunds, R Walford, A Hales, B Clarke, B Case, Mel Rowley, W Greatrex, Mike Smith, Micky Hammond etc. and I'm finding these trainers come in a lot more than you might think, and the 'top' trainers come in less than you think, especially when they have the favourite or they're at the smaller meetings. And if you stick a 'top' jockey on top as well, they're often a lot shorter than they ought to be.

It's probably best to just mix everything up together and not play a set way or specific combinations, just mix it all up and back horses you like regardless of odds, trainer, owner or jockey.
