Leodis, like you and presumably Fulham, have obviously found better ability ratings than VDW's, but although I have tried using my best ever performance ratings instead, in general I think VDW's ability ratings work as well if not better so now I stick with them.

The original ability and consistency ratings never sat well with me, JennyK , so the first port of call was to utilise more logical methods. TheBluesBrother 's ability rating is good starting point and I have devised my own method for measuring consistency, aided by Copilot.

74% of past winners of the 4.10 were in the top 8 ability rankings . But today’s winner was ranked higher than 8 . If anyone is using Ability ratings it’s best to see how they have worked out in past runnings of a race. However I never use them when analysing a race

You and presumably Nellsman have been more successful than I have, ability ratings-wise, though I still think VDW's rating method is, generally speaking, logical.
