I've not been here for a while, I joined a couple of years ago and wondered off due to one thing and another. Mostly moving job and home actually.
But now I've had a chance to have a good look round her and, as someone with an interest in VDW, I did want to ask a quick question before getting properly involved.
As someone who remembers the old VDW boards and all the in fighting and nastiness, I can see a bit of isolation, even bullying, of people who prefer to do things a different way to some others. (Oddly not something I've found elsewhere on this site).
So, would I be correct in thinking that what might be termed "old style VDW" thinking is actively discouraged. I notice when threads are started by "VDW-ers" they are usually commandeered and side tracked by detractors... in a dismissive rather than constructive way.
I'm particularly puzzled that some members take it upon themselves to denigrate those who don't "post their advance selections". There seems a fundamental misunderstanding that different people must all think, research, discuss etc in the same way. Some people are pretty good at collecting data, presenting it and so on, but not so clever at interpreting it.
Scientists can be brilliant at planning how some technology will work in theory, not so clever as the guys in the factory at putting it together. And vice versa. I would think that people working together with different skills is exactly what a forum like this is for.
I suppose I'm asking if the whole thing is board policy, or is it that just as in real life some people can be arseholes?
