BSP vs taking the price (Lay bets)

rastikal

Newbie
Does anyone have any experience/ stats regarding taking BSP on lay bets on betfair? Assuming other people have similar lay setups to myself, i would assume that the favs i'm laying will drift and therefore i'll likely end up with a worse price than BSP, plus my own stake will affect BSP....any help on this welcome

If the above didn’t make sense I’m asking whether when you lay it’s better if I take price (early) or whether I leave the fate to BSP. Any help would be appreciated, I’m new here but have some systems that i think could work, once initial testing (and help with the above is in) I’ll share these potential winners

Welcome to forum R rastikal . Regarding your question, it's difficult to say with certainty which would be better in long term in same way as with backing it's difficult to know whether to take early price or leave to SP. I personally prefer to lay at the price I like rather than leave it to BSP, as BSP may turn out to be bigger than the price I feel comfortable laying at.

Thanks frontrunner, always good to get another view, I think I’m with you on that basis. The system is setup to BSP but I just get the feeling taking prices would be more beneficial. Do you take opening prices or whenever you happen to pick them? Just out of curiosity.

Actually I don't lay very often these days, mostly prefer to back instead. Liquidity on Betfair is not what it used to be few years ago, so if you lay in the morning you will likely end up laying at too big a price. When laying, I like to have a maximum price that I would feel comfortable laying at, if the price never gets that short then I would be happy to leave it alone.

Hi R rastikal , welcome on board.
I'm sorry I can't contribute much to your thread as I have never looked into the lay market, but I think F Frontrunner's idea seems a sound plan - work out your confidence level and if you can get better odds then go ahead !

Hey dave58 dave58 , completely agreed. I'm currently building some systems on inform racing and finding that the lays are easily the winners so far, but obvs keen to try and increase those margins (although greed i understand is the beginning of the end!)

Just read a bit about it rastikal and the miniumum you can have lying on the lay to return sp is 10pounds any less just returns.
Also some time they dont return a lay sp if not enough so i would think its not worth the risk laying sp in my opinion but by no means sure.

Hi Gerry, I’ve done a fair bit of reading around but sometimes it’s a little different when you put it into practice. I’ve had 8 successive days of profit with the lays, been good going so far. My only worry is the liquidity and I think I’ll find it difficult to get bets on early due to this, so will probably stick to BSP unless they’re bigger races and more liquidity (currently focus on the AW and not much liquidity about)
