Betting for a living and didn't realise I was doing it!

I've been told that because I pay ongoing commitments from money I've won betting I'm betting for a living. I didn't realise I was doing that. This was a big surprise to me as my form at best can be described as in and out but when it is in I am doing exactly that. I'm wondering how many others are actually doing this.

Bet for today, though on a Saturday I may have 2 or 3,

Wexford 3.55 Blanketontheground taken 13/1 bog
Good luck to all and stay well

Do you have another income?I retired last year and i spend a bit more time on watching and studying managed to make five figures last year without having big bets had 9 winning and 3 losing months . Its been a bit of a struggle so far this year I'm just in front but March through to June has over the years been my best months .Good luck with your bets

I'm still working and still find the cost of living hard to allow for. I joke that I'll croak in the job but like all jokes it has an element of truth

Well done C Coseleymon with such a good return. Actually very well done as it is not an easy way to make money.

BOTG refused which to be honest is a new reason for one of my selections losing

Good luck and stay well

Cheers you too I took early retirement I've got a work pension but winning a few ££ is nice especially with the cost of living going up. It's a big call giving up your salary but the feeling of having no work stress is great I get up go running or play golf and then I can watch any racing I want of an afternoon, a couple of my mates have done the same and we all think the same enjoy your life while you can as none of us knows what's round the corner

Too right guys - I took early retirement at 57 and we've been having fun out here ever since - good, isn't it!
You've got me a bit worried though hedgehog hedgehog - can I just ask who actually told you that you are betting for a living, because I haven't included that in my tax returns since we've been here - I thought that it was supposed to be tax free?

Today Naas 4.40 Champagne platinum taken 4/1

I've been trying to have a winning bet on any national for ages and given my current form I'm not hopeful today.

Good luck and stay well

Today Downpatrick 3.45

Envol peirji taken 8/1

I got a plus tard in the gold cup which was my first winner for ages. I'm still struggling in the doldrums so not hopeful today

Small bets on
3.25 Carlisle malpas took 9/10
4.55 Downpatrick faith loving took 9/4

Good luck today and stay well

Hello pete pete I'm fine just a bit tired. I haven't posted much because I don't look at the site much anymore because I feel I have little to contribute. Everybody seems to have stepped up a gear and I'm still languishing in the doldrums. I've been thinking about vdw in the main and what he might have thought was good form and recently I've been having a bit of success but without betting. My current approach has been triggered by something chesham said years ago when he said the selection was giving weight and I've only just asked myself recently to whom was the selection giving weight.

There's an awful lot of top weights in the early examples either selections or race winners

Thanks for asking how I am

Good luck and stay well

hedgehog hedgehog reading your above i would say you contribute plenty not least of which being always polite and positive via your response's to other members. Betting on horse racing and sharing the experience on a forum can often leave us feeling why bother but we then bounce back and i hope it becomes the same for you. :)

It's understandable hedgehog hedgehog , I often go through weeks and months where I just cannot get into the swing of things, i tend to go back to basics at least three or four times per year and then take baby steps from there.

It's a tough game and I admire those people that can grind out selections and ideas day after day for years on end.

It can be a lonely place, staring at a screen all day trying to figure out which horse you think might run faster than the others on any particular day. Timeout is always a good thing, I find it gives my head a reset and clears some of the fog.

Please just know that your contributions were missed and your absence was noticed.

Take care
Pete

Are you kidding me? I love reading your posts and you've had some great ideas and threads.....those that I've seen.

Racing and betting in particular can be pretty hard going everyday and it is right to take breaks now and then. Everyone hits the doldrums now and then and that, I believe, is mostly down to the changing seasons within the racing calendar. I've just bounced myself ( hopefully ) out of a 'rut' and now the Flat racing is getting into gear I feel more optimistic.

Keeping things simple works for me and vdw always seemed a bit too much of a 'headache' for someone like me.
Having said that - the bigger the puzzle, the bigger the prize....

Thank you all gentlemen, and ladies if I have not realised you are such, the kind thoughts are much appreciated.

I'll post this which I've just posted to frontrunner

Epsom 3.45 selection Swiss ace danger Isla Kai
Doncaster 6.41 selection Soto sizzler danger cap francais

All 4 were from the idea who was giving weight to who and a variation on the 3cr

All good luck, stay well and thanks again
