The whole thing was a bit depressing really. This particular chap seemed to do quite well, but more on things other than horseracing if I picked it up correctly. " We like you to win - but not too much." :violence-rocket:

Looks like episode 2 is dedicated more towards Horse Racing.
 
did anyone watch the bbc programme on last night at nine? its on again next week...absolutely mesmerizing insight into corals, a day out at donny, racing post golf tipster and more....
 
Yeah saw that - quite enjoyable to see the guy selecting from the paddock and having a bit of success - followed on nicely from watching the video Chesham Chesham posted in the class ratings thread:

Has got me quite interested in getting to some race days and seeing what I can do!! Or at least paying better attention pre-race to ATR RUK etc
 
I thought the chap who liked a day at the races who spotted that the syndicate who had two runners in a race and were gathered around the outsider, made a valid observation.

Also interested in the Coral Traders who had laid the favourite at bigger odds and laid Red Top at shorter odds than the other bookies as they wanted punters to back that elsewhere. also the Coral Traders backed Red Top themselves with other bookmaking firms.

Was also surprised at the way Coaral Traders were marking up their odds to be offered as it was not exactly that scientific, so much for the super computer theory that I have seen bandied about. it's just three blokes pricing up at Coarals for Horse Racing.
 
I thought last nights programme was more interesting than the first one.

The bloke who went racing with his missus seemed to have it just right, but the golf tipster, I think needs to talk to someone about his gambling habit and the Corals traders, how old were they and will Ladbrokes keep them on if their takeover is a success.
 
The part where the Golf Tipster went and bought a copy of the R/Post, made me laugh. I can not believe the R/Post are so tight.

I hear the boss at the R/Post is so tight, if he had a mouth full of Gum Boils he would not share one.:lol::lol::lol:

Also i would like to know, why was the phone bet of £5,000 accepted when others can not get a bet of £50 on. Sometimes it does look like discrimination.

After reading the posts on here last night I thought I would catch the latest episode on IPlayer. To be honest I found it both funny and disturbing.
A few things occurred to me . I didn't watch the first episode and won't watch anymore, so forgive me if I am talking out of my arse here. Firstly, Corals obviously cut a deal that they would let cameras behind the scene if they were shown in a favourable light. Hence the mystery caller who gets a £5000 bet approved in about 60 seconds. Then the general suggestion that they were in a battle on a level playing field with punters. And the pricing up was laughable; no looking at competitors odds or Betfair then? And those of us who go on course know that if you sneak a look behind a bookies joint you are just as likely to see Betfair on screen as you are to see a screen showing the bookies liabilities.

Then there was the chap and his girlfriend who happen to find a couple of 20/1 winners just when the cameras are on them? Am I being too cynical thinking it was a great stroke of fortune for the BBC as well as the punter. Having said that, I couldn't help but like the fella. He knew his limits, and enjoyed his day out. Good luck to him.

What really disturbed me was the state of Steve Palmer. He may be a fair writer and golf tipster, and I couldn't comment either way as I have never read any of his stuff, but if ever there is a classic example of someone who shouldn't be betting, it's him. What a terrible state he appeared to be in. Wide eyed, sweating, twisting his fingers.....
That bloke needs help and fast before disaster hits him. He may well win a bit here and there on the golf, but he came across as needing a fix from the excitement of a gamble and he looks as though he would bet on the proverbial two flies. I don't think he will ever hang on to his winnings for long, and I just dont think he has the aptitude to use betting to support his family. I really fear for the bloke and wish him well.

Finally Millington came across just as I have always imagined him to be. Enough said I think
 
Just watched part 2 of this on catch up must say it was enjoyable the northerner with his polish girlfriend picking big price winners but only having a quid on who goes racing knows what they are doing and then bets a quid? Corals trading room gave us a few tips follow the money and as for Steve palmer this guy knows his golf but has a serious problem with his other bets this is a guy that would bet on rain drops running down a window.A morbid fascination with this programme will have to watch part 3 thanks for posting this as I wouldn't have Watched this if I hadn't read these posts.

Rhinoz Rhinoz. Thanks for the kind words but I just don't want to waste any more time on the programme. I still can't make up my mind whether it was a piss take or not. I mean , how/ where did they find the punter and his girlfriend from.? Why did the girlfriend look so disengaged throughout it all. Can Steve Palmer really be in such a bad way? Why did all the bookies get presented as nice guys trying to avoid bankruptcy at the hands of punters?

And if it was real and genuine, do I really want to watch people self destruct in front of my eyes. It just made me thankful that it all seemed a million miles from the world I inhabit.
