AINTREE 2024

Saturday 13/04/2024 – Aintree Grand National (4m 2f) (Prize Pool: £1,000,000)

I've only done up to 40/1, there are others listed but all over 50/1. I will update a bit nearer the time, and add the other big races for the meeting, or full race cards. VDW is the simplest method and just divides prize money by 1000 then divides by number of wins which should show class.

Thanks Formtheory, I'm no VDW expert, I just like to have a wee go to see if anything stands out - I divided prize money by 1000 to make the figures a bit smaller.

Well this crept up on us, I'm not prepared for today at all, I'll just have to punt on big odds today and hope the ground is testing.

The handicapper seems to have given Corach Rambler a golden chance to follow up.
6 lb less than Noble Yeats when arguably he has done more
less weight than Nassalam, Coko Beach and Capadano, only 1 or 2 lb more than the likes of Mahler Mission, Foxy Jacks, Stattler.
Looks absolutely thrown in , it’s the Grand National , stuff can happen but 11/2 looks fair and they usually make a point of pushing them out a bit to look good in the morning papers.
When the realisation hits this horse could end up 11/4 fav tomorrow
Maybe I’m reading this wrong but on paper I can’t remember a returning winner treated so leniently.

Red Rum carried 12-0 in 1974 and won, since then, Corbiere carried 11-04 and won 1983, Don't Push It carried 11-05 and won 2010, Neptune Collonges carried 11-06 and won 2012, Many Clouds carried 11-09 and won 2015 and Tiger Roll carried 11-05 and won 2019, otherwise, all winners have been 11-0 or less.

The last 8 years have been won by horses 9 or under, so I'm going for 10 and 11 year olds this year (low in the weights).

Alex Ferguson has 5 horses over today and tomorrow, and since Protektorat and Monmiral came in at Cheltenham I think I'll put it on, although, I doubt many horses that won at Cheltenham will win again at Aintree, Cheltenham could have taken it out of them a bit.

  • Sonigino 14/1 @ 14:20 today
  • Protektorat 7/2 @ 15:30 today
  • Grandads Cottage 22/1 @ 16:05 today (Sean Bowen riding and fancies his chances)
  • Monmiral 15/2 @ 13:20 tomorrow
  • Caldwell Potter 9/4 @ 13:55 tomorrow (Purchased for £634k)

I keep looking at it and I don't actually fancy any of them, nothing stands out, so I think I'm going with heart over head and hoping that Kitty's Light wins it for little Betsy, I think that would be the most satisfying win this year, so I'm lumping on Kitty's Light and hoping to share in the joy if he wins.

Good Luck to all.

My reputation as a tipster lies with this as my family expects me to select the top three in correct order, which seems hardly fair
:)
.

Aintree 4.0pm (Nat Cse Soft with some GS) Market odds from 9am.
5. I Am Maximus 17* (15/2) Tips 0, LTO 49? WP Mullins 21%, cls? -6lb
7. Corach Rambler 12* (8/1) Tips 3, LTO 29, CD*, L Russell 6%? =cls, -4lb

MY comment: 1 pt each the top three named just for interest.
ATR form verdict in comparison with the above.
Last year's winner Corach Rambler returns to defend his crown after producing a terrific effort to place in the Gold Cup. Officially 3lb well-in, the main concern for his defence would be the combination of a 13lb rise and conditions being more testing than ideal. Irish National winner I Am Maximus and Ultima third Meetingofthewaters head a strong team for Willie Mullins and JP McManus. The former has since won a Grade 1 novice back at Fairyhouse and warmed up with a convincing victory over Vanillier in the Bobbyjo. That being said, while Aintree can bring out the best in quirkier types, it remains to be seen how he handles this experience and his stablemate, winner of the Paddy Power at Leopardstown over Christmas, may prove best of the Mullins contingent. However, it is another McManus contender who has plenty going for her in the shape of LIMERICK LACE. Attempting to become the first mare since Nickel Coin in 1951 to win the race, she arrives having enjoyed a terrific season with confidence sky-high after landing the Mares' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. She qualified to run here when runner-up in the Troytown and it seems significant that her full-brother Inothewayurthinkin improved plenty for stepping up in trip when taking the Kim Muir. Others likely to be popular on the day include Mr Incredible, who appeared unlucky when unseating at the Canal Turn last year, 2022 winner Noble Yeats and Delta Work.

Top Tip: LIMERICK LACE (25)
Watch out for: MEETINGOFTHEWATERS (26)

Remainder of mine for Aintree day 3. Market odds around 10.5am.

1.20 Cuthbert Dibble 15 (15/2), Gwennie May Boy 14 (9/1)
1.55 Brighterdaysahead 18 (1/1), Jimmy Du Sueil 16 (11/4), Ile Antlantique 11 (4/1)
2.30 Crebilly 18 (18/5), Frorward Plan 14 (13/2)
5.00 Found And Fifty 16 (9/2), Hercule Du Sueil 16 (11/2), Etalon 16 (8/1)

There is one i think could have a squeak if the ground is as testing as they said it will be COKO BEACH loves it soft has run before and just might plod its way to go well today.
