Ratings Question

twmills twmills Original thought on compiling new ratings is always possible,but you may have to mix more traditional methods in different ways,I like Franktheform Franktheform use the official ratings as a base,I would inspect those ratings and try and break them down for the individual,Breeding potencial is one area where most have a good look,but maybe do not assign any sort of rating, one idea for you could be to maybe use the stats for sires prefered ground,distance,and then check out relatives to find out stamina limitations,speed influence,Class potencial,then possibly give lbs or points + or - to your ratings of choice,this sort of method is of more use in 2yrld,and 3yld maidens but effective when horses attempt a new trip.Trainer form is also a consideration,I like to concentate on the horse. wins to runs record reveals much,but not the class drop,that could take place. I always find the bigger picture more helpful when studying any race,pace and how the race may be run a consideration but can sometimes mislead.
 
This is a quick method you could use for ability(potencial) ratings done in a different way,with the information at your fingertips.

This is for the 2:50 at Newton abbot today

The two figures circled is what I will be using, the official rating(OR) for todays event(chase 103) and (ruled races 5)

simply divide 103/5 = 20.6


now simply add answer to todays official rating 20+103 = 123 for a potential ability rating. Do this for all runners.


please note I am only using the ruled races and not all time record,the information will obviously change,you can use the rpr rating or other ratings within the inner santum instead,and you could also take into account the wins to runs ratio, but in this instance I shall not.

The Jib would rate the handicap races and follow a horse until he was placed to win.
Example
Fantasy Believer Raced off a BHA Rating of 93 and was Jib Rated 77 against Opposition he rated 81.

Over the course of 16 races FB raced against opposition rated from 83 to 99 and The Highest JIB Rating achieved by FB was 94

All the time Jib is watching what the BHA Handicapper is doing and the what the Trainer is doing with regards the Strength Of Opposition

Eventually on the 11-07-06 the Horse has seen its BHA rating drop from 93 over the series of 16 races to a BHA = 80 and for the first time the horse is pitched against the lowest Opposition rated 78
 
Guess we are back to the bus driver, again. I'm sure it has a lot going for it if you pick the right bus drivers and have the dedication and patience.
