Racing post greyhounds, where are they ?

It's some days now I cannot open the greyhound page.
It says error 903.
It's not my computer. It's the same from all computers.

Extraordinary.
I have three pc's here with the same connection and my ip is Greek of course.
I don't follow this page so I don't know how long it's been going on, I wanted to show it to a friend.
This is what I get:

Error 903 Fastly internal

The racingpost themselves made the page inaccessible to Greek ips.
What they said to me is effectively that as the Greeks don't use the services of the sponsors of their greyhound page, they blocked the Greek ip range !
Queer because there are various companies who offer greyhound betting in Greece, even though it is not very popular.

it can be very frustrating, I regularly have to load up vpn's to bypass uk bookmakers blocks on my USA isp. I can understand they don't want me to use them to bet with, but why completely block access ? Makes even less sense for Racing Post to block a country from a certain portion of a website because you can't use the sponsors of that section. Ridiculous.

The law in Greece is that you cannot bet with unregistered companies.
The registered companies have websites ending in .gr.
However most companies who are not registered do not take customers from Greece so there is no need to block their sites.
But the unregistered companies also have to block their secure pages from Greek ip, no login that is.
If they don't do that as well as refuse to register customers, then they are breaking the law and the site is blocked.
Evidently someone could organize illegal betting if the foreign company allows login.

This last affected pmu.fr and for a while it was blocked.
That was a strange one. The French were central collaborators of the Greek national betting circuit. They were also the ones who
masterminded the campaign for all the controls and prohibitions you see in place now across Europe. It was them and Goodlatte in the USA !
Yet their site was blocked.
It transpired it was because of that. They were not taking Greek customers but they were allowing logins.
Either they did n't bother to upgrade their software or maybe they meant it for French tourists in Greece.
In any case later they complied and they were removed from the blacklist.

For the same reason skybet.com was also blacklisted, two years ago.
But they also blocked oddschecker.com which is not even a betting site.
I don't know how and why but probably the excuse was "it has too many glossy ads with bookmaker offers".
I wrote to oddschecker and -unhappily- they said "we don't care".

The Greek gambling authority is diabolical.
The national operator OPAP are withholding 10% from bets in UK races and French races even when the winnings are below the tax threshold.
I tried to find a justification in Greek tax law concerning bets and there is none.
I tried to find some explanation in their website and there was none.
I asked the gambling authority - no reply.
Then I went to the finance ministry and talked to the minister's legal adviser. I said to the lady "look maybe there is some
recent amendment you made or some internal circular of yours that does n't need to go through parliament, that explains it".
She searched and she said "there is nothing from us, the law on betting tax is unchanged but we cannot interfere - you have to go back to the gambling authority".
I went back, I said "from the ministry they say so and so" but again no reply - it's two and a half years now.
I also tried IBAS just for the fun of it. They say "OPAP" are not registered with us so it's no go.

About oddschecker they said to me "we can block the entire sports internet if we want to" !

Now we have a case of voluntary censorship from the post.
But I don't even get it.
bet365.gr offer greyhounds and bet365 is one of the sponsors of the racingpost.

All this is the result of price cheating you understand.
If the national companies were not cheating who would care to even search for other operators, ladbrokes-betoto-gamebookers all the names
we have heard throughout the years.
The gambling authority are part and parcel of OPAP.

I've run into the same problem. I'm in Australia. Does anyone know where there is a list of countries that can't access the Racing Post ?

I'm in the UK, I dialed into a proxy server in Perth Australia, and got a 903 fastly internal error when trying to access the RP greyhounds page.

A simple solution is to install a VPN (virtual private network) server like "Hide MY Ass" select a UK proxy, and problem solved.

Code:
https://www.hidemyass.com/

Mike.

Thanks, once I realised what the error actually meant I did install a proxy server. I'd rather I didn't have to, as proxy servers can suffer from slowdowns and it's one more link in the reliability chain.

I appreciate that the results are their data, and they have the right to set the rules. It's pretty bad that they hide it behind a Fastly message that is indecipherable, instead of just saying (as Betfair and Youtube do, for example) "not available from your country".

I raised a support ticket, and after six days (they claim 24 hour response) got this reply. I've answered as requested, to see what they end up saying to me:

We are sorry to hear you have been having some issues when trying to access Greyhound results from our website. In the absence of widespread reports of other users being affected by this, may we ask the following to do some investigative work?

- Do you browse the website on a desktop / laptop or hand held device?
- What browser are you using?
- Have you tried using an alternative browser?
- Would it be possible to supply your IP address?
