Open championship 2017

Wouldn't it be great if the stewards had some sort of crook to get the idiots out who shout after the shot.

I would lob them out or escort them to a holding room with no TV.

Also water cannon them as well but that's a bit harsh

Cheers
Hi Pingman I think you and most golfers of a certain age are traditionalists, I certainly am - whist recognising that things change have to say quite disillusioned by the boorish behaviour of some fans including the press who love to stoke and hype crap - has anyone seen the BBC Sorts web site side bar twitter comments - making the game a laughing stock - complete idiots given air time - I was offered tickets for Today and Sunday - wild horses would not drag me there. Shame but there it is.

On a side note I read that S Gerrard has finally had his membership for Hillside GC approved after been black balled in the aftermath of much publicised physical public house assault on a Stockport drinker ! - pressure from members A Hanson and K Dalgliesh being promoted as the prime reasons for volt face ! . Things are certainly changing and we get what we vote for.

Have to Speith is playing brilliantly and oozing confidence playing the sort of golf where all the breaks and bounces look to be going for him - from outside it looks like good luck - but as we know put yourself in the right places and and breaks will often come your way.

Hi bud completely agree, mate went on practice day and said there were still a lot of them shouting, I have had to play 36 holes today as it's traditional in the medal final, and quite frankly I am knackered, just caught the end of the open and yes speith looks great, however he hasn't had his iffy round yet so it's not definitely over yet.

Not moving from the sofa tomorrow at all my legs don't work!

What I like about Speith -http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/40695123 very natural swing and follow through reminiscent of Arnold Palmer
not trying to hold a perfect follow through but letting his weight / momentum take hime through the ball - as one who struggles with the balletic finish and hold joy to watch - don't get me wrong to see a golfer swinger swinging at 120mph and finished perfectly balanced on tiptoe Aka Adam Scot
- not possible for most who have bones.

I like Kucher and his attitude turn up and play very natural won me a quid in the past - but the majors require a bit more thinking about - he may have learned , we will see today - Poulter's not out of it yet - Realy it is in Speiths hands now to win or lose - all he needs is par golf for 16 holes and two birdies should get home OK.

if the weather stays benign , i cant see Speith having any problems at all , he is a joy to watch. i backed Kuchar @16/1 on BF to finish in the Top 5 so hopefully he can hang on to Speith's coat tails !!
shame about the shouting etc whats the point in shouting "Ham and Eggs " after they have played a shot ??? Morons !

Sky bet seem to be doing there best to draw me in to having another bet with there many markets on the final days play
One of interest is the betting without spieth and kucher
Cabrera bello at 14/1. He showed last week that he's capable of coming from behind and shooting a low score when he doesn't have the pressure of leading .
Ross Fisher at 33/1 is playing as well as he's ever done and looking at his major record from the last few years he seems to leave his best till the fourth round
1/4 odds 1st three

He normally birdies one in each half the round. The 14th will be a deciding factor. Will he go for a shot that takes the bunkers on or risk his par by playing a conservative shot and relying on a really good chip at the flag? Don't think a par round would win it for him.

Great way to watch now I have had a bit more at 14-1 w/o the top to on the young fast swinging I don't seem to care young. Guy Austin Conneley , rooting for him for the bet.

He is so refreshing , I dodged a bullet with the garden as rained last night so not cutting till later after the golf,

Also got the go ahead to replace the awful I 200's ping with the new ones if any good, and the G drivers.

Good job the wife is as addicted to golf as well.

Let's enjoy

It was the old style par all but the par 5's they were the birdie holes - Tiger changed all that by trying to birdie every hole and consequently course were altered to prevent him and his proteges from breaking all the records - Today Speith has perhaps the only really danger playing alongside - if he keep up to him it should be game over - the pins will be tucked away and will be hard for any massively low scores to be accumulated - he could blow up and lose shots that's his danger keeping it in the here and now - 1 shots enough to earn even unimaginable wealth further fame new record as youngest to amass certain No of majors

Final bet for me today will be for Fisher to beat mclroy at 7/4
Fishers is very consistent and coming into good form plays well on the last day and needs a top ten to qualify for next year
I think Rory will go for everything today but if he starts poorly I think he may lose interest he's equally capable of shooting a 76 as much as a 64 so I think 7/4 is fair

Well done to spieth to come back after a bad start and a worthy winner .
Three things I have learnt from this year's open.
1 Mcllroy will win more majors .
2 willett won't
3 I really should stop betting on golf

Keegans head Keegans head

Agree point 2 and yes well done to Speith.

Not sure about Rory, not sure if it's attitude or mind set, he seems very nonchalant, but if he could find the right putter then maybe.

Bets don't owe me since The masters but will have a look in its the seniors next week I think....let's read some form!

Mcillroy - Fantastic to finish where did - Spieth looked a pale faced nervous wreck - but the pressure will be unimaginable - so well done to all great - entertainment - great skill and judgement - by all those that even qualified

America’s Scott McCarron won the third senior major title of the year, the Senior Players Championship, after Bernhard Langer dropped two shots over the final two holes at Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland.

Langer was trying to become the first player in the history of the senior tour to win the same major four years in a row. The run began in 2014 at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, continued in 2015 at the Belmont Country Club in Massachusetts and stayed alive last year at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

And now it’s over.

For 70 holes, the 59-year-old German looked on course to win his fourth consecutive Senior Players Championship, and his third straight senior major, but an uncharacteristic collapse on the 17th and 18th paved the way for 51 year old McCarron to win his first major tournament after the California shot a six-under-par 66 to make up a six-shot deficit and beat Langer and Brandt Jobe by a stroke.

Langer had a one-shot lead after the 16th hole, but he put his tee shot in the water on 17, and missed a four-foot putt and had to settle for a double bogey.

On 18, Langer lipped out a six-foot birdie putt that would have forced a playoff. He finished with a 73 that included only two birdies.

“I thought I hit a really good putt on 18,” Langer said. “But the big issue was 17, hitting a horrible shot there and then missing for bogey. That was the killer.”

“This is going to hurt for a little while, because it was within my grasp to win the championship,” Langer said. “All I had to do was come home in even par more or less. Twenty under would have done it. But it’s easier said than done.

“At 17, I hit it exactly where I didn’t want to hit it — in the water. Anywhere else, left, short, long, you’ve got a chance. Out of the water, you don’t. And I didn’t make a putt all day.”

McCarron got into contention with four straight birdies on the front nine. He finished with eight straight pars, which was good enough to earn him $420,000, his biggest payday on the 50-and-over tour.
“I’ve been working so hard for this,” said McCarron. “That was one of my goals this year, to win three events, and one of them being a major. So I’ve got one more event to go.”

Miguel Angel Jimenez shot a 66 to finish fourth at 16 under, and Steve Flesch was fifth at 13 under.
