My latest effort

I spent alot of time on fracsoft but they have alot of information like HRB so you have to try match 2 or 3 things together to stand a chance but still get alot of losses this is why i was looking at timeform but quite pricy why i tryed afew alternatives i.e geegeez, flatstats, speedrateings.com ect but just hard to get constant good results

OnTheNod OnTheNod

Is patternform pacefigures good or simple to understand?

Hi chris-suk chris-suk well their are 3 sets to choose from, pace, pacev2,pacev3, they seem ok to me in fact maybe the best of all that i have seen, proform, and fracsoft the ones which i have seen.

I used them a lot for lay bets for a while but have now found a better way, over the shorter distances and with stiff tracks best, and hardly any losers but very few bets and of course no stiff tracks now the AW has started.

Hi Chesham Chesham , i guess you got a point or just have to find the wright tool for the job, just thought if i can see where the pace was could judge if horses tires out like in NH races alot front runners tire out so could oppose them.

Hi OnTheNod OnTheNod , i need to have alook at paternform when i finish work, is it free or prem service?

Hi chris-suk chris-suk it is free to join and their is a forum also may take a day for them activate your place but is worth the wait. They work on donations people send them but is completely free to try for as long as you like.

Hi everyone close now to coming up with more ratings been working hard on them and hope to put some up soon, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the RP rating does it include weight, and if so how does it calculate the weight, so that I could remove it from the rating, for I will be using their rating to narrow down the field but I do not want weight included.
Best of luck chris-suk let me know how it goes.

Hi Now having narrowed down the 3:30 at Chelmsford I take the top three and then apply my ratings, although still not sure how the RPR calculate weight into their ratings. Anyway my top three were.

SOLAR DEITY could not be rated
THIRD TIME LUCKY 94
GEORGIAN BAY 99

Hi Thanks Chesham I still cant see how they are ajusted for weight in the example Glenridding wgt is 8-13
with an RPR of 83, what would his RPR be without weight added in.

As far as I am aware you subtract the weight carried in todays race from Ten Stone (Flat) and Add that to the RPR Master Rating and that would be the Adjusted rating for todays race

RPR's are adjusted to ten stone [0-140] on the flat and twelve stone[0-168] over the jumps.

If a horse achieved a rating of 100 carrying ten stone it would be shown as 100, but if it was carrying 11 stone it would be shown as 114

This was posted in 2011.

Racing Post Ratings are not based on the same scale as Timeform Ratings - generally, they are a few pounds lower - nor are they comparable to Beyer Speed Figures. Racing Post Ratings are, like Timeform, a handicap rating. They are determined by a number of factors, the most important of which are the level of the race, the quality of the field, and the weight carried. While the time of the race is also taken into account, that element is used only as a general guide to the quality of a race. Keep in mind that the Racing Post Rating is not a speed figure, it is a handicap rating.

The rating is intended to represent the weight a horse would be required to carry in a handicap. For example, in races restricted to horses of the same age and sex, a horse with a Racing Post Rating of 120 would, in a handicap, carry three pounds more than a horse rated 117. In open races, sex and weight-for-age allowances are factored in. Thus, in a handicap, if a horse carrying 120 pounds defeats a horse carrying 128 by a length, the horse carrying 128 will generally receive a Racing Post Rating six or seven pounds higher than the horse who carried 120.

So I hope you can see that any attempt to remove the weight factor is impossible.

Timeform tell you by how many lbs their Handicap Ratings have been adjusted for the race about to be run. Useful information if adjusted Top Rted has been adjusted the least.

Still here hope all had good Christmas, any way not yet given up and here is now my latest effort 3:30 Lingfield. I got this idea having read something about Dick Whitford from an old Sporting Life Racehorse Ratings from 1985 and today will be my first bet using this. Can anyone tell me anymore about how Dick Whitford use to compile his ratings.

Dick Whitford used direct and collateral form to create his ratings and showed two sets one for the current season and the other for the past.Back in those days a pen written letter was the accepted method of polite communication and i wrote one to him explaining that i felt confusion Re which of his ratings should be used present season or past.I was surprised to receive a response which basically said he felt the same.Much to his credit he also said that he often felt embarrassed when the SL crowed about one of his bigger priced winners which was top rated on the previous seasons form because it would not have been his choice.

A real gentleman imo but all these years later the confusion remains for myself. I now use my own ratings and often face the problem that my best in earned the rating from a race perhaps > a year ago.I have long looked at implementing different filters or cut offs to make these decisions easier but never felt comfortable with any,so now do it the hard way with an open mind and attempting to judge each individual case on its merits.

Was looking at a couple of earlier cards & the winners of the races, appears to be a bit of an anomaly with these 2, or is it my counting?

Lingfield 12.10 Fire Diamond ADJ RPR 78
Leicester 2.00 Olivers Hill ADJ RPR 136
I.E.
FD Master RPR 65 Weight 9-04 Adjusted to 10 st = + 10lbs + 65 = ADJ 75
