Horseracebase ratings

Hi everyone,

Following chats with mick mick and others here, I've been working on a flat ratings and a jumps ratings system on Horseracebase, primarily to then merge with some interesting angles to see if they produce profits. This would be angles that on their own aren't profitable but might be a nice boost when viewed in conjunction with some good basic ratings. Angles like a trainer/jockey's only ride that day, or handicap debutants, or something like that.

Only issue is, I'm not very good at ratings... I was wondering if anybody here uses the HRB ratings machine and would either be happy to share their own calculations, or at least give me some feedback on mine. In return, I'd be sharing at least one more regular system test here (to go with the so far successful trainer change system) as well as any other systems feedback or examples (where I'm a bit stronger and more experienced).

Thanks in advance.

I have been with HRB for a long time now and have dipped in and out of the ratings. I have quite a few ratings that outperform HRB Standard and one at present is showing some quite surprising profit but the 750 races before it turned a loss of 116pts.

I'd be happy to discuss anything anyone could add to them, I think its almost impossible using the ratings to get one delivering consistent profit but I would agree that by mixing it in with other angles it could be helpful. I have a set called "Grand National" which was around 2% better SR than HRB Standard at one stage earlier this year, but was still not all that profitable.

I'd be interested in whether you've got anywhere above the HRB numbers.

Another filter is odds to runners ratio from last race of 0.5 or less, which produces this, a few less bets, lower SR but a fractionally better ROI.

Thanks AustinDillon75 AustinDillon75 - I've given up on the HRB ratings machine. Much though I love the website and still use it for other things, I find their ratings building unnecessarily complex. I've started to scrape ratings data from elsewhere - happy to accept there'll be people/organisations that just do it better than me.
