Earliest memories of racing

I have began this thread about my earliest memories of racing. These are most about visiting racetracks.

The first track I ever went to, is Lingfield. A all weather hurdle meeting. My mum took me. For those that are too young to know, there was all weather hurdle meetings at Lingfield and Southwell. At some point these were abolished, because of injuries to horses.

Go Nobley took the first race at 1/3

My next visit was again Lingfield to a flat meeting 1990. I think Rafah took the Oaks trail, for Henry Cecil.

Then I recall visiting Brighton for a evening meeting.

Me and Mum went to Newton Abbot in August 1990. I saw South Sands take the last race for Martin Pipe and Peter Scudamore.

In 1990, me and mum went to Chepstow to see Bonanza Boy get beat by Boraceva, in the Rehearsal Chase. Also saw Carrick Hill Lad take a handicap chase.. We went again to the Welsh National and met some bloke on the train that had Timeform and said they are saying back Boraceva. 8th it finished. Cool Ground took it beating Carrick Hill Lad. Bonanza Boy pulled up. I backed Hopscotch. I went to Cheltenham and saw Hopscotch get beat at 2/13fav or something short, in a 4 runner race. Transpired she hated travelling and had sweated up, in the horsebox. I saw Seagram beat Bonanza Boy, in the ASW chase, a mile race at Cheltenham.

I think the only 4 mile race remaining at Cheltenham, is a hunter chase.

I went to the 1991 Grand National that was won by Seagram. The race was sponsored by Seagram and the horse was offered to the Sponsors owner but chose not to buy him.

Belgian horses Fraze and Oklaoma II ran, but neither were involved a lot. Fraze carried 11st 10lb because it had qualified by running in the Belgian version of this race. Had they brought him over and run him a few times here, he could have received a handicap rating and a lighter weight. I recall It's A Snip taking the Belgian Grand National and because of this, it had priority of running, over horses rated higher than it.

I recall Sabin Du Loir. I recall Carvill's Hill and those unsporting tactics by Jenny Pitman, to put a horse in the race to try to get Carvill's Hill to make mistakes.

I could continue about my racecourse visits but my last visit, was Plumpton May 1994, at this very meeting coming up. I have been thinking about returning and at this meeting but unfortunate, I can't. I hope to return at some point though.
